Has anyone used the WayB Pico car seat? We are spending over a month traveling this summer and will be in a bunch of different cars so this seat looks super appealing since set up is easy and it’s light. It’s expensive though. Anyone have experience with it? Does it seem comfortable? We’d use it mostly for short trips but probably occasionally 1-2 hours. She doesn’t nap in the car but I want it to be comfy enough that she won’t whine. She’s almost 3.5yo, probably 30 pounds and 33 inches. Thank you!!

My almost 8 months old is close to outgrowing her infant car seat by her height. Not her weight. I’m studying the next car seat to get her and am
Leaning towards a Chico - a convertible one. We like the NextFit Zip Air Mac Extended Use as it has a higher weight limit for longer use. Does anyone have this and like it? Just curious as these aren’t cheap. We have the Chico key fit infant system
And love it so we were thinking to stay with Chico.

Thanks everyone!

What age/size did you switch to a backless booster? We currently have our 6 year old daughter in a 5 point harness booster seat. Should we switch to seatbelt with the back on or go ahead and go backless? She weighs 60 pounds and she’s tall for her age. Thanks in advance!

What did you do with your old car seat? We've missed Target's latest trade in back in Sept., and ours still looks brand new and has never been in an accident. I hate to throw it away, but it looks like neither Goodwill or the Salvation Army take them, and I don't have someone to give ours to. What did you do?

I haven’t posted in so long but I remember some of y’all were so nice and knowledgeable about car seats so taking a shot-

We are moving to NYC and I am planning on what to do about car seats. We won’t have a car and will rarely be driving. Are there safe car seats that are small and light we could keep in a closet for when we do rent a car?

LO 1 is 5 about 40lb and 42 in
LO2 is 3 about 30lb and 34 in

When LO2 grows a bit more is something like this safe?

https://www.amazon.com/hifold-fold-highback-booster-Racing/dp/B07X7H9HL3/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=car+seat+travel&qid=1605018459&sprefix=car+seat+trav&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFaNFVUSUNDVEtQNjkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA3MDkxMTUyRDhETVVROVA3R0FFJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAwNTQ2MDdOU0hTSkdFNUpLMUYmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

In the past, my kids wore fleece jackets in the car and then I would carry their winter coat into daycare to leave on a hook (for playground time) and bring their fleece jackets back to the car with me. At the end of the day, I'd walk in with their fleece jackets in hand and put them on for the car ride home.

With covid rules, I'm not walking into daycare anymore...I'd like them to wear their winter coat in the car then straight into the building. Honestly - we'd have hit this point next year anyway with kindergarten.....

I guess I'm just intimidating with finding a winter coat that will be great for playing in NJ snowy winters and also carseat safe.

Has anyone bought the lands end jackets: https://www.landsend.com/products/kids-thermoplume-hooded-jacket/id_347454 before and been comfortable having your child wear it in the carseat?

I don't want to buy one of those intense car seat specific jackets....I'd really like a normal jacket that is car seat safe.

I've been reading too many threads, sites, and reviews to think about this straight :silly:

DD2 needs to move to a RF convertible seat like yesterday. For DD1 we got a Diono Radian RXT and at a petite 7yrs she is STILL in it FF. Since they no longer sell the same model, I'm torn between the Diono Radian 3RX and the Graco SlimFit.

We've had such a great experience with the Diono - it's a tank (pros and cons there itself) but has such a long lifespan. However, DH has a Honda Fit and he is the primary driver so while that car is surprisingly roomy I am still concerned about the space. The SlimFit seems smaller and I like the flip out cup holders and additional supports.

Both seem narrow enough to still fit a third booster for when DD1 has friends ride along with us (whenever that happens again).

Anyone have experience with the newer Diono 3RX and/or the SlimFit to share?

Thanks!

If you decided to extended rear face your child, when did you finally flip them?

My DS will be 4 in a few weeks and is still rear facing. I see so many recommendations to rear face as long as possible until your child is over the rear facing height/weight limits on your seat. However, my seat goes until 40 lbs or 40 inches tall... my little guy is only 26 lbs and 35-36ish inches tall and could probably rear face until at least 5.

I’m considering flipping him when he turns 4... but he’s still completely content rear facing and has never asked to switch.

We just bought a new (to us) car with 3 rows because we're having our third baby. It looks like 2 seats will need to go in the back row and one in the middle row to allow access to the back. My question is, how would you arrange your kids? We have a 5 year old, a 2 year old and soon a newborn. Should the little ones go in the back or the older ones? I'm worrying about not being able to hand things to my 5 year old. Thoughts?

Having a nightmare getting 3 across in my 2012 Honda CRV. I’m looking for a recommendation for 3 different seats that will work together. I’m familiar with the lists of 3 seats that work together, BUT the catch is that we have a HB belt positioning booster which isn’t addressed.

1 HB belt positioning booster

1 infant seat (preferably Chicco Keyfit if possible since 2 Grandmas will be caring for the baby and also another baby that will be in a Chicco Keyfit on alternate days so we would like to be able to use the same base), and then eventually a RF seat. If it makes more sense to just invest in a specific very narrow RF car seat like a Clek and skip the bucket seat to save money in the long run, we will do that. We will only use the bucket seat for about 5 months anyway because myself, my mom, and my MIL have all had upper arm injuries.

1 FF harnessed seat (she will be 4 when baby is born)

We already have:
Diono Radian (RF or FF)
Graco Tranzitions (FF only)
EvenFlo Big Kid (narrowest booster I could find)

Does anyone have 3 across in a Toyota RAV4? Ours is older, 2006. Right now with the two seats we have, the space between them would not accommodate another seat. Maybe if I got all new seats? My kids are almost 5 and almost 2 and we have a newborn coming in late March.

We have a Britax Marathon that my SIL gave to us practically brand new, but I find that the pull strap to tighten the straps is REALLY hard pull tight. Is this normal? I can manage to pull it until i can pull it about 2-3 inches from his chest pretty easily and then I have to pull with my entire weight to get it tighter, but as tight as I can get it, i still feel like there's too much of a gap (maybe like 1.5 finger width - i cant try pinch test cause of the rubber piece on the strap), but no matter how hard I pull it just doesnt budge. Does anyone that has this carseat think this is typical for it?
Our other car seat is a Chicco Nextfit and it practically glides and is so much easier to tighten.

My four month old hates the car seat. She screams from the moment she is put in it

I just got her a new Chico next fit convertible thinking that would help - she was in the Britax infant seat before. But it actually seems to be worse....

She also has silent reflux and an airway disorder so I know positioning is a big issue that could be making her uncomfortable.

I have 3 kids but have never purchased a harnessed booster. With my oldest who is 7 she stayed in her convertible seat and then went straight to a high back booster that works with the seat belt.
Now I have my almost 3 year old who has about outgrown his convertible. I need a harnessed booster for him and then a new convertible for our 10 month old.

I saw a disturbing report from consumer reports that 5 of the top harnessed booster I had in mind are really not as safe as we thought. So I am now second guessing myself.

We are taking a trip in the fall, and didn't want to pay for an extra seat on the plane. I also didn't feel comfortable checking a car seat, not knowing how banged up it could get.

My parents are driving to the destination, and can take the car seat. But we still need a seat to take him to the airport in. I was thinking of purchasing a convertible car seat, as it can be used longer than the infant one he has now.

He will be 5 months, assuming a convertible car seat will be fine? Anything I should look for specifically? Any features that are a must?

We need to replace the car seats in my husband’s car after a really minor car accident. Currently we have a Chicco nextfit for my FF 3.5, but if I have to replace anyway, I’m thinking I will get a harness to booster instead.

In my car her big sister is in a Britax Frontier, which is the front runner right now. Before I buy that again, I’m considering other options but have specific questions.

Can anyone compare the seatbelt install with the Myfit to britax ClickTight? I’m somewhat obsessed wth how easy the ClickTight install is and it would be hard to give up. I can do a latch installation for a while but eventually she will max out the weight so thinking ahead. I cannot get a good seatbelt install with our nextfit in his car for some reason, but it looks like they have updated the seat belt lock offs in newer Chicco seats? Ours is from 2014 ish.

Does the crotch buckle get stuck under the kids butt so you have to fish it out? That happens in the nextfit, and the frontier has something that makes it lay flat away from the kid so I never have to reach under.

I know both seats are very heavy. The Myfit is a few inches narrower which would be really helpful on the rare times I have to sit in the back if we have another passenger in the front. Or I suppose car pooling as the kids get bigger? But if it’s hard to install I will be cursing myself for not getting a frontier. The 3.5 yo is really small, 2% for height currently, so the higher harness height limit isn’t a concern.

Also- besides Buy Buy Baby, where can I try a car seat in my car?

Does anyone know if there is a safety benefit to using a convertible/3-in-1 type seat in booster mode vs. a high back booster in booster mode?

We have been doing lots of car seat swapping with our crazy childcare this summer and my daughter has ended up in our EvenFlo Big Kid a lot. It’s a great belt fit, but it just seems so much flimsier to me than our Britax Pioneer which is like a tank. When she transitions to a belt positioning booster full time (still not quite there in my car as she falls asleep on longer drives still) I want to give her the option between the 2 seats, but only if the flimsiness doesn’t matter.

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this, but here we go anyway-

DH was in a very minor car accident this evening. Our nearly 6 year old was in her Graco turbobooster HBB, and the Chicco nextfit was installed but empty. He was just rear ended but there was some minor damage/ denting to his bumper.

I’m pretty certain we need to replace the Chicco nextfit. Do the same standards apply to a high back booster? Pretty sure the answer is yes- the manual just states if it is involved in a car crash we must replace. But it definitely fits the description for a “minor accident”- no air bags, no injuries, cars were driven away, no damage to the door nearest the car seat (or any doors), and no visible damage to the seat.

Mostly I’m making sure I’m not totally crazy saying we need to replace both, right? It seems wasteful but I take car seat safety seriously.

(Graco customer service is closed- I already tried calling directly).

When you install, turn from back to front facing, replace etc. a car seat or booster do you do it completely yourself or do you have a licensed car seat specialist (in our town that’s police) do it and/or assist you or check it for safety? I have always done the latter. However, I want to upgrade my 16 MO to a larger seat (currently in infant) and 4YO to a booster. I’d like to do it myself but I worry about it being correct and safe.

I need a new seat for the babysitter's truck. She has a Graco Extend2Fit and it seems like he's about to max out the harness height, maybe. None the less the seat can be passed on to the new baby.

I have a 4Ever All in 1, and my husband has a Nautilus 65 in his truck. I like Graco, but I used Chicco for our bucket seat and liked it too. Is one better than the other? I'm also considering the Nautilus snuglock instead of the regular one, just to see how the install goes.

My son is 3y3m, 42" tall and 42 lbs. He's lanky, and tall all over, not just long legged or long in the torso.

Hi! I'm just about half way through pregnancy with my first, and I'm looking for recommendations for an infant travel system with a car seat and a car seat carrier that will convert to a stroller when the baby gets older. I'm pretty sold on the Chicco Bravo system, but was wondering to hear from others if it's worth the extra money relative to a Graco or other mid-range brand. DH loves the fact that the frame is metal (he's an engineer and wants metal over plastic always) and it seems more stable during folding in the videos vs. Graco quick fold. I also like that their car seat is rated #1, but would love to hear from others if they think it's worth it.

Also, any other recommendations that you feel like throwing in would be appreciated! This is our first and we're not in a place to get many hand-me-downs, so we need EVERYTHING.

It's looking like we're going to need a three row SUV that can fit 2 convertibles and an infant seat, and probably eventually 3 convertibles. Slightly prefer the ability to put two in the middle and one in back rather than three across, since if history is any guide an adult will need to sit in the middle of the two seats some times to deal with screaming and/or hungry children.

The VW Atlas looks pretty sweet but has anyone actually owned one and can give a report? The fact that it's such a new model makes me a little wary. Would love to hear about others that you love.

In case relevant, we use our car much more for long-ish (1-3 hr) drives on weekends, we live in the city so are not relying on a car every single day.

DH is very opposed to minivans, so sadly that option is out for us.

My 3.5 year old is about ready to outgrow his rear facing seat (already outgrown it forward facing) and I need recommendations about what to look for:
- He will be 3.75 years old and at least 35 lbs/39 inches when we flip him. He's all torso with short legs.
- I'm looking for a seat that will last for years, at least until LO2 outgrows his seat in 2ish years, but ideally until he's big enough for a booster.
- He barely used the car seat, so we don't need something super fancy
-it must be easy to install because we use a lot of rental cars
-it needs to be narrow because we are hoping to have 3 car seats in the back of a Civic.

What do you use? What do you love or suggest avoiding?

It doesn’t matter how tight we make it. She manages to slide down the top buckle from chest level down to her stomach, then wrench one arm at a time out of the straps. We have a Britax Marathon.

I can’t figure out a way to keep her from doing it. Any ideas??

We're in the market for a harnessed booster that will initially go in a babysitter's car this summer (Subaru Legacy 2013) and then in my husband's car (Subaru Impreza 2013; replacing the reviled Maxi Cosi Pria). My priorities are that it is easy to install (babysitter will likely be taking it out fairly frequently), narrow (will likely end up in my CRV 2013 3-across if we have a 3rd because our Britax Pioneer is likely too wide), and doesn't break the bank. I have my eyes set on the Graco Tranzitions but want to make sure I'm not missing a good seat.

We also have a:
Diono Radian R100 (currently RF in CRV)
Britax Pioneer (FF in CRV)
Maxi Cosi Pria (FF in Impreza--blech)
Graco Nautilus (or something similar, FF in Impreza)
