@bees_knees: I'm glad you bought them. We have one and love it (DS is on year two of wearing it and it's holding up great). They wash amazingly and I personally totally think they're thin enough to wear in the car seat.

We just got them and they're great! Mostly bc my girls will actually wear them, unlike heavier coats that are stiffer and harder for them to run around. Def not heavyweight though, we switch to warmer coats and/or layer with a sweatshirt when it dips into the 30s.

Thanks all! I think I might go ahead and order one! It’s mostly just for walking into preschool :) We live in (snowy, really friggin cold) MT so we have several heavier weight jackets for winter play! (And if anyone needs an affordable heavy jacket, we love the Snozu ones from Costco every fall! They are like $20 and include a hat. I think we have one in every size, including baby snowsuits 😂 and for DS1, who is out of toddler sizes, we grabbed the Gerry 3 in 1 winter coat from Costco and it has also been great!)

We have the lightweight primary puffer. It’s not a heavy winter coat-we use it in California when it’s in the 50s. We’ve used it in drizzle and it’s been fine. No complaints. I think it’s thin enough to use in a carseat but I haven’t tried.

I have a puffer bunting from primary. I’m squeamish about puffy in the car seat so I don’t use it that way, but it’s not super thick. It’s also not waterproof, so doesn’t work as well in snow which was disappointing for us because it’s very snowy here. DD got a wet butt the few times we used it for snow play. A jacket would probably be ok, her clothes have never gotten wet above the waist, but could if your kiddo like to roll around in the snow. If we had paid anywhere near full price I would’ve sent it back, but it’s a decent back up to her Columbia snowsuit at the $25 I paid for it.

PSA Primary coats are $22.50 right now 🙌🏼 Anyone have one? How do they compare to the Gap Prima loft kids coats? Hoping that it is thin/squishy enough to be car seat safe?

i like the brand Costco generally has. For the previous 2 years, they had nice bibs with reinforced knees. They are still in good shape when DD is done with them and will be handed down to DS. I've bought some high rated best sellers on Amazon that were junk when DD was done with them, since they didn't have a reinforced knee.

@Chuckles: I bought London Fog for my kiddo (bib style, they go up to 14-16) on Amazon twice now. I admittedly can't vouch for their longevity since we don't get heavy winters in VA where I am, but they feel very sturdy and good quality compared to some others I've seen.

Can I slightly threadjack and ask what brand of snowpants people recommend? I want ones that will be warm and hold up through 2 kids, but some are so expensive. I'm willing to pay more if it's worth it, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

I had bibs until I was in high school, if I remember correctly. They are so much warmer and keep you so much drier when sledding and playing in the snow. I still have a pair of bibs for when it's really cold out. I much prefer them.

My 8, 6, and 4 year old all still wear bibs (though I may consider pants for the older two for skiing). For snow play/tubing, it just keeps them drier IMO, and keeps their pants up (they’re all quite slim). However, my 8 year old is wearing 6/6X snow bibs, I think. I’m not sure how big they come!

So I have put my kids in snowpants with bibs the last few years..... when did you move away from snowpants with bibs?

I like knowing that they aren't getting snow down their pants or up their back - but will completely acknowledge how going potty stinks in these kind of snow pants.

When I try to think about being a kid - I think I wore bibbed snow pants well into childhood.....

I'm asking because I decided to go big/go home and buy a one kid road coat for each kid and get a pair of snow pants for free - I can't decide what size to order knowing I certainly won't use them this year....

(PS - our winter activities include sledding and playing in our yard - not skiing or anything intense...)

It hasn’t been worn yet, but I just bought our oldest a Gerry coat from Costco because the Lands End one she has is still too big. When I compare thickness, the Gerry coat seems comparable to the Lands End one and was a fraction of the price.

We live in MT and have frigid, windy winters. We already have several inches of snow (not happy about that). Previously my kids have worn the Snozu coats from Costco and we’ve been really happy with them, but DS1 has unfortunately outgrown their sizing. Can anyone recommend an affordable, super warm winter coat? Anyone have any experience with Costco’s Gerry youth systems coat? TIA!

When DD was little we really liked the cat and jack 3 in 1 coats. The inner layer was perfect for day to day, it was think enough to be safe in the car seat but still relatively warm. The outer layer was perfect if we were going to be outside more, and layering both was wonderful when it was really cold.
