@periwinklebee: my DH is the same way. He also let me have a lot of control with DDs name but i have a feeling will be more opinionated with DD2.

@Kaohinani: That's lovely and so fun! Do they like having Christmas-y names? I'm not sure how I would feel having to share a bday with a major holiday AND it being my namesake.

@Clementine12: Sneaky peeking 👀 on this board. 😉 I love the holiday-named trend for Dec babies. I have FOUR family members born on either the 24th or 25th of December... Yes, you read that correctly. 😉 My aunt (Christmas baby) is named "Joyce" for "Joyus." My nephew (DH'S side) is "Noel." My great aunt (24th b.day) is Noelle. AND, my cousin is "Jubilee." My husband, his sister, and DS are all Dec babes as well but have "traditional, non-celebratory names."

@Clementine12: I hadn't even thought of it! I find it super hard to get my DH to have a serious conversation about names until it's really last minute, because he finds it way too amusing to suggest outrageous names and laugh at my look of shock :silly: So we've got nada for baby girl. I would ideally like a name that's not top 50, but when people look at it they've still heard of it and know how to pronounce it. Last name, despite being short, really confuses people in terms of pronunciation, so I'd really like the first name to be straightforward. But my husband would never spring for a super common name...

How do you all feel about holiday names? This is mostly for fun, but my mom has been campaigning hard for Noelle as a name (she says no one thinks of Christmas with the name Noelle  )

It's not a real contender for us, but what do you think? What names are you currently considering?

Got a fetal doppler and have heard the HB a few times so I announced at work since it was getting ridiculously hard to hide the bump.

I had a dating ultrasound yesterday and saw a heartbeat, so we're starting to tell family. Wasn't the most impressed with the tech/company - no way to print pics and I asked to be informed as soon as she saw a heartbeat (which was immediate with my daughter!) and was instead told a few minutes into it - luckily I could see my husband's face and knew everything was ok.

On track for a baby due 12/25 🎄. 9 weeks today and feeling pregnant. I swear I'm showing already...

@Clementine12: DS was a Jan baby, and having our own Christmas the year I was expecting him was lovely. Last year we made the extended trip (multiple flights, long car ride) to see my family, and while I love seeing them, DS got air sick multiple times and the trip was absolutely miserable... So I'm all for having an excuse to stay put!

I wasn't sure if this board would end up being active, but I'll join in:

Location: East Coast
EDD: 12/27/2019
How far along: 7+4
First child? 2nd, I have a 15 mo
First doctor appointment: today
Any symptoms so far? Nausea, exhaustion, which diclegis makes that much worse.... Probably about the same as last pregnancy but having a toddler makes everything way more exhausting.

Had the first appointment today and everything so far looks good. Measuring 7+5, 7+3 based on LMP. Plan is to get NIPT once I'm far enough along, and another US in a month.

@Clementine12: :goodluck: :goodluck: I had a couple of losses before my first pregnancy, and am now AMA, so I also have been cautious and haven't really acknowledged that it could actually, maybe work out. Keeping my fingers crossed for your first appointment!

Hi ladies. I'm feeling more confident in this pregnancy so I thought I'd join in.

Location: Western USA
EDD: 12/25/2019 🎄
How far along: 7+6
First child? 2nd, DD just turned 2
First doctor appointment: Saturday (5/18)
Any symptoms so far? So many. Way more than my first pregnancy and way more than my losses. Lately, mostly exhaustion, bloating, nausea, and all food and drinks taste off.
Who have you told? DH and DD, and my midwife.

I had an early loss in February that was hard and it's been hard for me to connect with this pregnancy. I spotted 4w to 6w so I'm still fearful of a MMC or something else going wrong. However, at the moment I am undeniably pregnant. I am very symptomatic which might be a blessing with my state of mind lately.

I see my midwife on Saturday and will get an ultrasound sometime next week I assume. I'm hoping that helps me feel better about it all.

How is everyone feeling? Have you had an unltrasound yet?

Is it odd that my OB isn’t having me come in until June 11th? My other two pregnancies were with an RE (we had to have fertility treatments), so this is all new and different to me! Such an amazing miracle. Anyway, I went in around 6 weeks with both of them. So, waiting until 10 weeks seems crazy! Ha. Also, I’m 40.

I’m pregnant with baby #3 and we seriously considered the Subaru Ascent, as well as the Honda Pilot. But after being in both of them, we decided there was no way we could fit all our stuff in the back, and trying to buckle my oldest in the 3rd row would drive me absolutely crazy. I was (still sort of am haha) anti mini van but we ended up buying a Chrysler Pacifica. Honestly I think it was for the best with three kiddos. My husband said the reviews on the Sienna say that the interior is super outdated. So... I don’t know which one is pick, but I think you can find something better!!

@SouthernGothamCityMama: Do you have a garage spot, or do you street park? I used to live in Brooklyn, where we drove an Acura MDX (with three kids). I now have an Odyssey, and the thought of having to street park that, even in a little "downtown" in the suburbs, makes me super anxious because it is really really long compared to a mid-size SUV. So if you street park, you might want to opt for the shorter car and just use a roof rack when needed for long trips.

I also really don't think you need AWD if a Sienna is not the minivan you like. I know a few friends who drive them because they're scared not to have AWD, but really, how often do you encounter snow that isn't cleared promptly, and how often do you HAVE to drive in those conditions? For me, I ultimately decided that AWD wasn't a dealbreaker. I have an Odyssey now, and it has handled fine on the few occasions I've needed to drive it when caught in the middle of an unexpected snowstorm in a relatively hilly area.

One thing to note on captains chairs with one kid in the back - the kid in the back really needs to be able to reliably buckle/unbuckle his or her own carseat - it's still very hard for an adult to access the third row between the other carseats. That is why the Honda MagicSlide seats sold me on the Odyssey!

@LadyDi: I opted for an Odessey over a Sienna (NYC suburbs in NJ, where it is hilly and we get a few solid snows each winter). DH accused me of choosing the car on the MagicSlide seats over all wheel drive, and warned me not to call him the first time I got stuck in the snow. We had a rapid, heavy snowfall about three weeks after I got my mini van, and thankfully, it handled just fine while cars and trucks were sliding out all around me. There is a "snow switch" that supposedly does something to the rotation speed and suspension of the wheels. But I LOVE my sliding seats - they are a game changer for accessibility and quick rearrangement of configurations (school pick up lines, changing a diaper in a parking lot, making it easier for my third-row child to reach stuff in a seat back organizer when she needs to do homework on the road, etc.)

DH and I are purchasing a Honda Odyssey tomorrow but I went between the Sienna and Odyssey for a long time because I strongly wanted AWD. We live in Pennsylvania and it's snowy and hilly here in the winter. After being in both, I just really didn't like the Sienna. It hasn't been updated in a while and even the 2019 ones feel very "meh" to me. Also, the Odyssey has "magic slide" seats in the second row, which make accessing the 3rd row very easy. I will have two rear facing in the middle, which makes climbing through very difficult and my oldest will be in the back in a 5 point harness for awhile yet. With the sliding seats I can just slide one of the middle seats over and climb into the back very easily. Plus the Odyssey was just redesigned and is much nicer on the inside than the Sienna.

We didn't really look at 3 row SUVs, just because of the car seat situation and I also really wanted automatic doors. I really wanted to be able to get in and out of the car and get the kids in and out of seats as easily as possible.

We'll see how it does this winter. I am nervous about it bc I get nervous driving in the winter anyway...I would like to get snow tires but right now we really do not have anywhere to store four extra tires. If it seems like we really need them then we'll find room somewhere though.

ETA: I forgot to mention though that we live in a suburb and use the car every day. I might have thought differently if I only used the car on the weekends.

We really liked everything about the Ascent except that my gearhead husband was not on board with a CVT transmission.

We felt the VW Atlas was comparable and got one of those. We have had it for a year and are very happy with it.

I held on to my anti-minivan bias. My husband might have caved on that if it wasn’t for my dedication!

We opted for a bench middle row so we could do three across while the twins are small. I did not want to sequester their big brother in the back by himself. When they are all FF then maybe we will put two kids in the back and one in the middle.

I'm very pro mini van when kids are in car seats. We have a sienna, but not the AWD model. I live, and grew up in, rural Vermont so I'm very familiar with driving in wintery conditions. We decided to just get nice winter tires, and avoid the hit to gas mileage year round. It's been totally fine, the thing is a tank and handles very well in the snow.

Sliding doors with car seats is a game changer. Also, consider if you would ever be transporting other people. We have a rear facing convertible and a bucket seat in our captains chairs, and a forward facing 5-point/booster seat in the back row. We usually leave the other half of the back row down so that we can transport strollers, bikes, etc. Its nice to be able to quickly put the back row up if we have other people riding with us. When the back row is up I can still get our double bob in the trunk (a little awkward, but doable).

We will be moving in about 3 1/2-4 years, and will need AWD at that point (end of a steep dead end private road). I'm hoping there will be some new options then- something that does better with gas, but if not I really do love my Sienna. Its been a great car for our family!
