So I have a great stash of cloth diapers and gear, mostly saved from my first DD1 and some given to us by generous neighbors who are done having kids. I 100% thought we would cloth diaper our newest LO since we had everything and it went fine last time.

But, then we just didn't for whatever reason. I chalk it up to a combination of waiting for DD2 to grow into them, then wanting to use up our disposable stash, and now just being lazy about it. There is also a part of me that worries DD2 will not be used to them or be uncomfortable with the bulk.

So, I'm now at the point where I feel like we either need to double-down and actually do cloth diapers OR sell our stash and the related accessories we have for it. DD2 is 8 months old and I WOH full time while DH works part-time for now but may be returning to a full-time WOH position within the next couple weeks.

What would you do? (Poll for funsies)

We have 6 hand-me-down pocket Fuzzibunz cloth diapers that I absolutely love. They are the one size diapers. It appears Fuzzibunz no longer makes these.

What are your favorite cloth diapers and why? I like the pocket diaper idea but I'm not sure what other brands to try.

We have also done the prefold/cover route but I seem to prefer pockets.

(dovetailing off the previous CD thread)
I never had success with my son and CDing but I'm gonna try again. My son is 3 weeks and pretty much every 30 minutes has a small mustard poop so the diapers are getting out of control.
In my arsenal: I have Alva pockets, Thirsties AIO, a few BumGenius covers, bamboo, cotton, floursack towels. I use Tide powder in my front loader. And a toilet sprayer.
FWIW, My kids have EXTREMELY loose stool, I think that's why CDing was such a shit show (literally).
Any tips for CDing a newborn? I don't even know how to fold for him (9 lbs). 😄

Hi Mamas! I successfully cloth diapered my first baby an old school top loading machine. But we moved into a new house with a front loading HE machine around her first birthday and I remember being SO frustrated trying to clean them in my new machine. They seemed to never get clean no matter how many extra soaks and sopping wet towels I threw in to trick the machine. They always smelled bad with that washer and I gave up after a few months. Pregnant with #2 now and I’m not sure I have the patience for the multiple hours per load it will take to get them clean. I’m thinking of just doing disposable! Do you have a successful cloth diaper cleaning routine for your front loading HE? If so I would love to hear your experience.

Any cool hacks? I have two kinds of liners leftover from my son, we kind of petered out on CD'ing at this time because I never got a good system. I dont really think we want to get a sprayer..we only have one bathroom and its so small. We just started solids.

Oh, if it matters, we use some all in ones, some prefolds and flats (but no snappis, I just fold and lay in cover)

I am planning to slowly start purchasing some Green Mountain Diapers fitteds for our baby who is due October 1st. I have heard really good things about them, and like that they are natural fibers. We are planning on using wool covers.

My question is whether to get the fitteds with snaps or without. Snaps seem like they would be easier (especially for DH and grandparents/sitters), but I have heard that using the ones without snaps with a snappi gives a better fit. Any experience or advice??

Sooooo DD is having a lot of success with potty training, yay! We mostly cloth diaper except naps and bedtime. So now we are using pull ups. So I think it’s time to store our cloth diapers since now we only use them at childcare 12 hours a week and if we can send her in pull ups they will potty train her there.

We use BG 4.0 pockets. Is there one last wash or stripping I should do before storing? We plan on having one more child but that won’t be for awhile. I want to be sure they are ready down the road.

Does anyone have experience with wool? My DD will be 4 mo old, and she is soaking through overnight. She's starting to sleep through the night, and I don't want to wake her for changes when we feed. We currently use Charlie Bananas, which are great during the day; but even double stuffing isn't helping. She leaks up the back, so I think it may be a flooding problem.
I don't want to try a bunch of different things, my research says that wool is best for the night.

So can anyone give me input?
Also, if I'm not supposed to cover the wool, what would she wear for pajamas, and a swaddle?

Our microfiber inserts STINK and I don’t know what to do.

This is the second kid using these and she’s 19 months old (almost 20). They are the Best Bottom medium inserts so she’s probably been using them for about 10-12 months, and DD1 probably used them for 8 months. We had a stink problem around age 1 with DD1 but switching to Charlie’s Soap completely solved that. We use Best Bottom and Blueberry shells (so no pockets).

I’ve stripped the inserts twice. I’ve tried unscented laundry soap. I’ve tried regular Tide. I use Borax every time which was my save all last go around. Nothing is working. The stink is so bad my FIL refuses to put her in them for fear of bacteria.

So, is there a last shot any of you can recommend to remove the stink? I’m in a tough spot because we have the next size insert up in storage, but she’s so petite she won’t quite fit them yet without doubling up with some smaller hemp inserts we have, and we don’t have a ton of them. I also can’t justify purchasing any new inserts because she’ll hopefully be potty trained around age 2 (goals right—DD1 was just shy of 2 so fingers crossed). Or would you throw in the towel and use disposables for 4 months? I guess this is really for moms who successfullycoth diapered multiple kids using the same inserts.

Thanks!

CD newbie here. We started out with a few different kinds, and have decided that Charlie Banana's are our favorite. So I've purchased several brand new, and then I purchased a lot of 12 pre-owned off of ebay. The seller stated that they were used in a large rotation for 6 months, and were selling because they preferred AIO.
I've received them, they look and smell fine. However they are not soft like the brand new CBs. The fleece is sort of pilly and the inserts are sort of 'crunchy' (like when a pre-fold is line-dried).
So my question is: is this normal wear and tear? Will all of my CB's look/feel like this in 6 months?
and is there a way to make them softer again?

Thanks for any and all input!

How old/how big was your little one when you transitioned to the longest rise (completely unsnapped)? My guy is 15 months, almost 33 in and weighs about 25 pounds. We are having some occasional leaking issues and I'm trying to narrow down the cause. We use BG 4.0s with hemp inserts. I'm trying to decide if maybe the hemp isn't absorbing quickly enough or if it's time to switch the rise settings. TIA!

How many is average would you say to full time cloth? I'd invest in more inserts but the covers are pretty wet/ soiled each change.

also, how often do you change them? He's pretty wet every hour or so but I thought cloths hold up with wetness well...?

New to cloth diapering for my 11 month old (I know, late to the game!) and I have a lot of questions that I can't seem to find answers to...
I got him some Mama Koala pocket inserts (microfiber with that PLU water resistent stuff) and they're been pretty easy so far. I don't know the best/ fastest/ cleanest way to wash them. I've gone to fluffloveuniversity.com and googled a bunch and checked the Amazon reviews but I'm still wondering...
Do you do a load of diapers every single day? I don't want to do that!
Do you leave them in a wet bag then deal with them after a few days?
Do you always have to pre-wash? Can you do this in a sink?
Can you wash them with other laundry?
Do I have to test my water and worry about hard/soft water? I think our water is very hard!
What's the long-term care of synthetic microfiber diapers?

Thanks!

We are going to attempt cloth diapering. We already have a couple packs of newborn and size 1 disposables for the very beginning, anticipating some trial and error and not wanting to do extra laundry for a while.

I've slowly been buying used cloth diapers either from friends or from a local b/s/t group but I'm wondering if I have enough. I've got a variety of brands so we can figure out what might work best for us before we buy any systems or spend money on new cloth.

I have:
- One Grovia and one Tot Bots newborn diaper, both AIOs
- 4 gDiapers, size small
- 3 Thirsties AIOs, size one
- 3 Applecheeks envelope covers, size 1
- 2 Blueberry pocket diapers, one size
- 1 Thirties AIO, size medium
- 2 gDiapers, size large
- 5 Cloth-Eez Workhorse diapers, size small
- 4 Flip covers
- 1 Thirsties duo wrap cover
- 1 Bummis cover, size small
- 1 Bummis cover, size medium
- 2 covers unsure of size or brand
- TONS of prefolds
- About 10 inserts and 10 doublers

I realize we will need diapers in bigger sizes but I figure we'll get those later once we have figured out what works for us and baby and baby is a bit older.

Is this enough to start out with?

Hi cloth diaper mamas,

I am on baby #2 in cloth at a center based daycare. We started with 24 diapers in rotation. One got lost in the baby room (I am assuming it got thrown out). I didn't notice right away and just chalked it up to the cost of rotating staff etc.

But now we have been in the toddler room for 2 months and 2 more have gotten lost, one this week. Has this happened to you? How did you handle it? What should I do?

At this point I am looking into supplementing my stash which I was really hoping to avoid. We only use BG 4.0s so we are talking about $13/diaper or so that I paid. Would you ask for reimbursement? How would you handle this?

If you use cloth diapers and disposables, what do you do about the car seat harness?

Babies wear cloth diapers on our short trips out but on longer trips (out of town) we put the babies in disposables.

As you know, there is more bum in cloth diapers.

I know the harness holes should be at or below their shoulders.

So I should measure and adjust their harness when they are in disposables so they are the shortest sitting position, right? Or do you rethread the harness every time? (Does anyone actually do that?)

If I use their disposable diapers height to adjust the straps, when they use cloth diapers, they are a bit higher up.

Is that any more dangerous? Probably should ask a CPST about this. Waiting for approval into the Car Seat for littles group.

We always make sure the straps pass the pinch test. Just wondering if that few cm affect the safety.

[attach=147/16/odew4d.447x600.car-seat-and-cloth.jpg]

I found this through Fluff love but doesn't say anything about the safety of going from harness height of a disposable diaper to cloth.

I'm trying to figure out how to offload my stash now that we are potty training. The easiest to me seems to just list as one 20 diaper sale but I wonder if people are more hesitant to buy everything at once?

Also. Did anyone buy off eBay? I'm used to selling other things there and I know there are a ton of used diaper sites and fb groups but honestly they overwhelm me! Ha!

Those of you who use a mixed selection of cloth diaper types (as opposed to just all in ones or all pockets, or whatever) - why? What are the benefits of a mixed stash that I should consider?

Thanks!!!

Did you organize them by brand? Colors and prints? By type?

I'm trying to decide how to do ours.

Does anyone else have a baby with an unfortunate habit of taking off their own cloth diaper? What did you do? Did they ever stop doing it?

My almost 1 year old figured out how to undo aplix a few weeks ago. Almost all of our diapers have snaps, and I was planning on snap converting those last few anyway, so no big deal. But today, she managed to undo the snaps on one of her flip diapers. I had no idea babies could do that! She was also in the process of peeing on the living room carpet when I realized that her diaper was off.

Obviously, the easy answer is to never have her in just a diaper. But she's crafty, and managed to undo aplix several times while wearing a skirt or pants. She just reached down and undid it, no big deal. I'm concerned she's going to figure out how to do the same with snaps.

So I'm getting ready for DD2 and I have 24 BG4.0s that I used daily for about 2 years with DD1. They are in great condition other than the elastics so I know I need to refresh. I can sew and I know the elastics in the BG4.0s are pretty easy to replace, but I came across this YouTube video about tightening them without sewing and it would be a lot quicker.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tAKMj82Peg

I did this in about 2 minutes on a diaper this morning so you can see the difference. Do you think this is a reasonable approach if I want to get another 2 years out of these diapers or should I bite the bullet and just replace the elastics all together? Thanks!!

We will be cloth diapering. I'm thinking of having two large wet bags in rotation at home, and a small one for the diaper bag.

Any recommendations? Currently hearing good things about Planet Wise and Skip Hop.

Anyone used theirs for an extended period of time? How did it fare after several washes?

I'm experimenting with different nighttime solutions. I have these thirsties duo inserts where it is 2 layers snapped together - one MF, and one hemp/cotton blend. I tried 2 of them together (so 4 layers) plus a bamboo insert I have, but it was so bulky. Could I maybe just use the hemp/cotton layers and ditch the MF altogether, or will he pee "too fast" and the cotton won't soak it up as readily? I feel like I've read that materials like hemp and such should always be paired with MF bc they absorb more slowly than MF?

Thinking about getting some new cloth diapers for my 32 lb big chunky 18m old. He's in size 6 and has been for months. He outgrew his OS AIO diapers before age 1! He briefly started fitting in them again when he was walking, but they are just a little too tight and I don't feel comfortable with squeezing him into them : (

Now I have a few covers, some prefolds, some flats, and a few random inserts that I was thinking of trying at least part time. Especially since he's pushing the limits on his target diapers, which have been our favorite. Ive been trying out different disposable diapers to see if I can find some that work better, and even ordered some size 7 pamper cruisers which fit ok...I just feel like if I am gonna be spending more maybe I might invest in some more cloth.
I was thinking:
-buying some wider prefolds that I could actually fasten with snappi, and maybe a couple new covers
-buying g diapers in size XL and trying to make either old prefolds or flats work as inserts
-getting something else completely new that I don't know about?

any advice?

To the cloth diapering mamas out there...
I'm currently finishing up a cloth diaper trial with a local store and we've decided on an AI2 system. I'm torn between getting the Flip covers with Flip inserts and the blueberry Capri covers with Flip inserts. The Capris are a little bit more expensive but the quality feels better to me. Tell me about your AI2 system! What do you use? What do you like & dislike about it?

Ages & weight ranges for your little one would be helpful if you're able to include it. My little one is currently seven weeks old and 12 1/2 pounds.

I'm starting my five week old on cloth diapers. He seams to get more fussy when I put them on versus disposables. My husband thinks he doesn't like sitting in them as much as they are less absorbent.

Did anyone else have issues when going from wearing disposables all day to cloth? Did your LO get over the transition well?
