Does anyone have any tips for overcoming bottle refusal? My 3 month old suddenly decided she wouldn’t drink from a bottle anymore about 10 days ago. The most we’ve gotten her to do during that time is chew on the nipple and dribble the milk out the side. Previously she could drink a full 3-4 ounces, and we were giving bottles a couple times a week from the time she was 3 weeks old. I saw a lactation consultant on Wednesday who recommended a couple of things, but we are still having serious issues, so I was wondering if anyone here had dealt with this and what you did. My daughter is supposed to start daycare soon and I am freaking out that she’s going to starve all day.

Trying to help LO gain weight - 10 mo, no teeth. We do a lot of full fat yogurt and avocado but that's getting boring. What do you feed babies that has a high fat content? Bonus points if it doesn't require a parent to spoon it in

If anyone has any words of wisdom or recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it!

My DS is almost 5 months. He's consistently had issues with eczema, frequent spit-ups, and frequent very liquid stools. The pediatrician has ruled out reflux and since he's gaining weight really well, she's not concerned. She okayed eliminating things from my diet to rule out food sensitivities. I'm coming up on 3 weeks with no dairy, and his eczema seems a lot better, in fact it's almost gone. Yay! But he still has frequent, very loose stools and tons of spit-up. I figured by 5 months he would have grown out of this but doesn't seem like it. He's exclusively breastfed.

I keep feeling guilty because I had to take 2 rounds of antibiotics before he was a month old, one for an infection and one for dental surgery. I'm wondering if that affected his digestive health. The pediatrician has okayed probiotics, but I don't know what's a good brand for babies. I'm wondering if this sounds like a good idea from your experiences, and if so if there's a specific probiotic you'd recommend.

Thank you!

DD just turned one and her pediatrician gave the go ahead to switch from formula to whole milk. Since my DS is 7 years old, I don't remember at all how this is supposed to go  How did you transition your LO? I'm trying to decide whether we should add some regular milk to her bottles to slowly switch the taste or keep bottles and formula but start giving her milk in sippy and straw cups. Or give milk in her bottles and drop the number of formula bottles over time? I'm not in a hurry to ditch the bottles, but she does pretty well with straw and sippy cups. Ideas? Thanks!

My 9 month old seems to have an EXTREMELY sensitive gag reflex when eating anything other than purees. Whether it's a puff or a small amount of mashed potatoes he'll gag and throw up as soon as he starts to swallow it. I think it's a texture thing, not a problem with swallowing, but we are't going to get an OT evaluation done at this time. Does anyone have any food recommendations for how we can try to de-sensitize his gag reflex? He can swallow a puff once it gets soft enough and yesterday I mashed up an avocado and it was mostly ok as long as I gave it in small amounts (like 1/8 tsp).

One problem is that we are moving in a couple weeks and I already packed our blender and food processor and it's in storage at my inlaws, so I don't have the ability to make my own food right now if it requires more mashing than I can do with a fork.

I think my breastfeeding journey is over and I feel so conflicted about it. I had no problems nursing DS1 for 15 months and no issues til DS2 turned 6 months and started solids. He's 9.5 months now so we had a good run.
I'm pretty sure he's not getting enough milk for a few reasons. 1. Pretty dry diapers 2. Terrible pulling on my nipples (never used to) 3. Only 7th percentile for height at the last 2 checkups but 65th for weight so he's a can of 🌽 4. Seems insatiable for solid food 5. Nurses super quick (I think he eventually gives up after trying to rip my nipples off) 6. I never pump more than 2 ounces 😵
I really wanted to get to a year. We have brutal winters and he's starting daycare soon, so I know he will get very sick and I wanted to nurse for a year through that. I guess that's silly though.
I've been supplementing with formula (Baby's Only Organic) and he loves it, no issues at all.
Is it possible to nurse 3xs a day and supplement with formula? I feel like my supply is even lower now.
I don't want him to be hungry.
I'm just a little sad 😟

Our 13 week old has dropped how much he’s eating and I’m curious if you think it’s cause for concern, early teething, or just my mom brain fretting over a phase. 😅 Two weeks ago, he was guzzling 5 oz bm per feeding, 30 oz/day. Last week he suddenly dropped to 20-22 oz/day. His daycare teachers were trying hard to get 10 oz in him while there. His hands are always in his mouth, chewing on them, making his teachers wonder about early teething. He takes the bottle right away when he’s hungry and pushes it away when he’s done, and is still his very happy self, he’s just dropped his ounces by so much! Plenty of wet diapers throughout the day, about 1 bowel movement a day. I’m curious what others’ experiences are and what you experienced mamas think!

I'm really concerned my son isn't nursing enough- he's 7.5 months and from early on has been a quick "power" nurser ... now he only nurses for like 4-7 minutes, every 3 hours. He is pulling on my nipples like crazy in the past few weeks, like he's not getting enough,,,,He LOVES food, he eats anything and everything! but maybe he eats so much because he's hungry? Everything says milk needs to be their main source of nutrition but this seems unlikely. He also has no teeth yet.

He is growing but he's quite short (no one in our fam is short) and fat per his percentiles.

So what is combo feeding? If I give him one bottle of formula, will I dry up? Do I have to pump? I stay at home til Jan. I'd like to BF for a year but I don't want a hungry kid.

Hi,

Baby is waking frequently during the night and won’t settle. She wants to nurse on one side repeatedly. I’m exhausted. Two days ago she slept 5 hours straight. I try to feed every 3 hours w/ breastfeeding and formula.

Problems: She’s fighting the swaddle. I tried one arm didn’t work. Merlin magic says 3 months. Anything out there similar?

Feeding during the day: should i feed more often during the day despite her sleeping a lot?

We have tickets to a show in a little over a week. The last few days we have been trying to get LO to take a bottle and he doesnt want it!

He used to drink from the bottle when he was younger as I had to supplement formula due to his low birth weight. But it's been over two months since hes had a bottle and he doesnt know what to do anymore.

I'm wondering if I should change the nipple? Is it better to get one where the milk flows faster?

Right now I have the avent bottles that came with the breast pump. Not sure what kind of nipples they are.

Any tips? I can always give up my ticket but I dont want to. I thought 2 weeks was more than enough time to get him comfortable with the bottle again but maybe not?

He doesnt take a pacifier either which worries me.

My baby is 1 month and almost 11lbs. my baby does have thrush right now but overall is content and fine. She is on meds. She also is on nutramigen starting yesterday for gas and bad diapers. I've noticed some times lately she'll have days were she eats a lot and then days like today where she'll eat and then refuse to eat for a long time. Her weight is fine and is content and happy. Is this okay?

This morning she ate 6 oz at 9:30/10 am and then hasn't ate much since. Just an oz at 1 and STILL keeps refusing the bottle like she is full. Ive tired everything and she won't really eat. Changing type of bottle, warming the formula etc.

DD is 3 months exactly today but this week her reflux has really ramped up. Feeding has been a nightmare and she isn't taking bottles well unless shes sleepy or relaxed completely. It seemed like her reflux was getting better but suddenly has gotten worse. We have not changed her formula and is still on the similac sensitive. Our pediatrician last time we were in said that the reflux could get worse before it gets better as it peaks. Was this the case with any of you? She also said we could start doing small amounts of rice/oatmeal cereal in her bottles but I really don't feel comfortable doing that just yet. Should I try it at this young of an age. Any advice?

(This is my second son but apparently I still don't know how to feed my children?)
So my little 6 month old chunker absolutely loves food. Reaches for it constantly, gets so excited to see jars, won't stop eating whenever we give him anything. He seems a little less interested in nursing. He started solids at 5 months.

This is his norm:
Morning: 1 jar veggies, 1/4 avocado, some banana. Or like 7 oz of a spinach fruit smoothie
Lunch: a pouch of fruit, some cheese
Dinner: 1/2 banana mashed with at least a tablespoon of peanut butter, some avocado, a jar of something.

Should I ease up on the solids? I'm outputting a little less at the pump. He nurses for a shorter amount of time too.
Gahhhh

My 2 month old has been going longer stretches at night and I am wondering if this is OK feeding wise to let her go this long? She gets a bottle around 6:30 pm and then down at 8:00 pm and she will sometimes go until 4:00 am! Sometimes she will only make it until 12:00 am and then i'll give her a bottle if she wakes/stirs. She is exclusively bottle fed now and shes 10 lbs 1 oz. We just had a checkup and pediatrician said she was gaining well but I just want to make sure I am not stretching her too thin in between feedings at night. During the day she gets a 4 oz bottle every 3-4 hrs and never longer than 4 hours. Thanks for any input! You forgot this stuff even the second time around. I think I remember my son started sleeping through the night around 3 months and I am wishing I wrote all this stuff down from before!

Anyone notice more fussiness with Ranitidine? We started it Friday. She's 6 weeks which I know is usually the peak of fussiness and major growth spurts (per wonder weeks.) Naps have been a disaster during the day with 20 min incriminates and she would not let me put her down yesterday. Sleep was better last night but a struggle to get her happy and down at 8:30pm. She then slept until 2:30am feeding time and then again until 6:30am. Woke up fussy again though. This a 6 week stage or a reaction to the Ranitidine? I just want a happy baby. Reflux is miserable.

what were your favorite things to feed a young baby? When can they eat firmer stuff, like mozzarella cheese and bananas and Cheerios and stuff? A mom at preschool suggested soft boiled egg, is this a thing?

Hi guys,

Sorry in advanced for the super lengthy post. I just had DD a week and half ago via c-section and everything went great! I was able to breastfeed right away and my milk came in right on day three when we were able to leave the hospital. Transitioning at home with my 3 year old DS was SO much harder then we were anticipating. He has been super difficult but each day seems to get a tiny bit better. We had to have my mom come stay with us these last two weeks to help with him so that I could continue to breastfeed etc. Breastfeeding is going well so far however I am a bit embarrassed to say I don’t love it. I think a lot of that stems from the fact that I have to return to work at our family business on June 1st. Some anxiety also comes from past thoughts of when I tried breastfeeding with my son but we didn’t make it because of nursing sessions lasting hours and PPD baby blues on my part. I pumped for a few weeks with him but gave that up to and went to formula because it was just way too much since I don’t get to stay home. I’d really like to do combo feeding if my body allows it meaning just feeding her in the early morning before work and at night and doing formula during the day. I am feeling a bit of mom guilt again even though I promised myself I wouldn’t this time around after beating myself up so badly with my DS when we didn’t succeed with it. I feel like this would fit best with our lives because of work and because I truly feel totally tied down not being able to help with my son at all. I feel like walking pacifier which just won’t work at my job. Pumping exclusively is also not an option! I truly hate pumping and overproduction was just such an issue last time I don’t want to deal with it and deal with going back to work full time. Any advice would be truly helpful and wanted! The mom guilt is slowly starting to creep back in and making me feel pretty terrible. :bummed:

I need some help with ideas of what to feed my newly 8 month old. Right now he is BF and has 3 meals of cereal/purées a day. In the last couple days he has started to pick up and eat puffs.

What are some ideas of finger foods to feed him?

DS is almost 11 months old and we are struggling to get him to feed himself or be able to finish a sippy cup or bottle without help holding (OT evaluation this Thursday). We had an epiphany when we realized he just gets too stiff when he eats. For instance he will hold a mum mum but he have a hard time guiding his hands to his mouth. Same with a bottle/sippy.. he can't seem to relax his shoulders enough to lift to get the very last bit. Any one else experience this??

ETA: He has no problem getting toys or hands into his mouth... just food.

I have already walled a few people who went through this but am posting just to see if anyone has any success stories.

My daughter is 3.5 months old, and I'm returning to work right after Christmas. When she was very young she had a nightly daddy bottle feeding and took to it fine. Around 8w she dropped that feeding, and maybe 2 weeks went by with no bottles. When we tried to pick them back up for a few doctor's appointments that I had, she became increasingly averse to bottles from my husband and our babysitter. 3 weeks ago I was gone for an afternoon/evening and she went on hunger strike for 8 hours and howled most of the time. That night I ordered 6 different bottles on Prime and started trying to chip away at the problem--at first I thought it was lipase; I *do* have lipase, but the bottle problem is much bigger, and we are not making any progress. She outright refuses the bottle from anyone but me, and as it is, I can only get her to take 2-3 oz, once per day (first feed in the morning), with **extraordinary** effort. Any attempts after the first one per day have been totally disastrous. I'm freaking out because our daycare director told me back in September that she wouldn't take a baby who refused the bottle, and it's impossible for me to feed her mid-day (I work very, very far away) and working from home is not an option. I can't afford to quit my job or hire a nanny whose sole job would be to hold my screaming, starving baby for 11 hours a day (that plus my son would be 75k/year in childcare in my area).

I'm so panicked by this that I'm actually thinking about weaning completely so she has no choice but to take a bottle or get a feeding tube. And if the baby is on a feeding tube in the hospital, then at least I can keep my job. I know this is a fucking crazy line of thought and that I'm starting to spiral into freakout mode. I asked our ped for advice and have read every article on google about this issue. I'm losing it and honestly feel like PPA is coming on. I would give anything to EP or be EFF.

We've tried seven different bottles (Comotomo is the only one she doesn't outright hate), different people feeding, different milk temperatures, feeding spots, positions, levels of distraction/calm, background sounds, light levels, freshly pumped milk vs formula, types of formula.

Does anyone have any advice/encouragement? I'm desperate and don't want to starve the girl into submission :crying:

My little guy (4mos old, 9 weeks adjusted) is very willing to take a bottle, but we're having a tough time finding one that works well for him besides the disposable Similac slow flow latex nipples. Continuing to use them is far from ideal since they only last for a few uses before becoming not-at-all-slow and I have a pretty significant latex allergy.

He seems to need something with minimal or no passive flow/drip but with very little resistance to active sucking.

Tried so far:
Dr. Brown's Preemie - too difficult for him to suck from/too much resistance

Dr. Brown's 1 - too fast passive flow, chokes. active sucking resistance/flow seem about right.

Gerber Essentials Slow - WAY too fast

Evenflo Balance Slow - best so far, the passive flow is a little much and he chokes sometimes. The flow with active suck seems about right. Sadly, they don't make an extra slow or preemie option

nFant gold - too much resistance

I've been focusing on nipples compatible with narrow neck bottles since we already have a ton, but anything with pump adapters will work.

N is 8.5 months. She is huge and started solids early around 4.5 months at the doc's recommendation because she was so hungry. She's a great eater, loves everything pretty much. But recently she's decided that purees aren't satisfactory. She eats them sometimes, but often refuses and gets mad. She loves mum mums and will devour as many as I'll give her. I've been trying various other finger foods. She has a tendency to stuff as much as possible in her mouth, which is kind of scary. What foods have you had good success with at this stage? It seems like she's never satisfied, but she also is picky about how she eats (wants to do it all herself).

Hi mamas!
Just wondering if anyone could share their infants schedule? I think my 9m old is condensing naps down to 2 and it’s affecting his eating schedule and I can’t for the life of me remember how my 3yo was at this age. He does solids 3x day and 7oz bottles. I find when his naps are longer he only takes 4 instead of 5 bottles but seems ok so wondering if I just up to 8oz??
He sleeps from around 7p til 5:30/6:30a and has bottle when he wakes. Then solids around 8:30 followed by nap (anywhere from 1-2 hrs), another bottle then solids around noon time then nap around 1ish for an hour then bottle then dinner around 5:30ush then bottle before bed by 7. He’s up to the stage 3 solids and does puffs well. Just would love to see how other infants schedules are at this stage..

Thanks so much

LO (10 months) is an active and big (98th percentile) baby. But he's been slow to take to solids. He's gotten in the habit of taking all his increased caloric needs in the form of a formula top off before bed time. At first it was only an ounce or so to compensate for my slightly lower breastmilk supply in the evening, but now he's taking 8 (!) ounces, in addition to around 4 ounces of breastmilk and a bit of solid food for dinner. We have had more and more trouble, concurrently, with avoiding diaper leaks. And once he's up at night, it can be for an hour or two - he does not go back down easily.

He always gets offered solids first when we get home from daycare, but is not that into it and will hold out for the milk. I've tried sending more food/milk to daycare, but he doesn't take it. I worry a bit that because we combo feed, it's discouraged him to take up solids because he can easily meet his increasing caloric needs with milk (now I think 40+ ounces of bm+formula / day).

Do I take away an ounce at a time from his nighttime bottles and add it to his daycare bottles, or take away the nighttime bottle a bit at a time and hope he will just make it up with solids? I know that food before one is for fun, but he's taking so much milk that I feel like there's scope for him to have more solids. But I don't want to be too impatient and push the issue if it just happens naturally.

Do any of you have any good tips on starting your baby on solids? Has anyone tried a baby food delivery service that you can recommend?

I am about to start giving my solids to my second baby, so I feel funny asking for tips. But my first girl is a picky eater and I'm hoping to do better for my second girl.

Asking for a friend

Her baby is 5 months and her and the Ped thought it would be a good time to try solids

She tried rice cereal with breast milk and then he was fussy all day - coincidence or was it the rice?

Now she is wondering if she should try it again? Try oatmeal? Try fruit? Wait till 6 months? WWYD?

BTW... he devoured it!!
