I sometimes put the silicone top in the dishwasher... Wash by hand and in the dishwasher, the most important thing is to let it air dried before reassembling the bottle...

I must be in the minority because I like the straw thermos bottle (funtainer and the other kids bottle). I actually like them because we can remove the silicone top and wash and use a brush to wash the straw. I then let it all air dry before I reassemble. I didn't like the contigo and its spring mechanism because everything is attached... and I don't know how to wash it. My kids don't seem to care too much about a straw anymore so I bought some rubbermaid bottles (no straw)

We got two of these and have been really impressed! They especially work great for school water bottles since their names are engraved and you don't have to worry about stickers constantly falling off in the dishwasher.

Seconding camelback. I like that the straw piece is replaceable, although we have only replaced them once or twice in five-ish years. But - if your kid is a big chew-er, they are not ideal, because they can definitely chew through the straw, and then you're constantly replacing them.

DD is 7 and for the past couple of years we have been using the simple modern bottles with straw lids. Or other lids depending on what we are doing, we all have bottles from the same brand so have a mix of lids at this point. I find the straw lid really easy to clean with a straw brush.

We recently grabbed the Owala FreeSip with straw and love it but it's pretty big and DD doesn't like carrying it around. But we'll use it for the beach/pool/lake since it will just go in our bag.

I’m looking for an easy-to-clean straw water bottle for my 1.5 yo.. any recommendations? Prefer stainless steel but definitely open to plastic too.

We used the very popular thermos funtainer for 4 kids, 8 years… and this whole time we have hated cleaning the silicone top. It gets moldy and gross and I hate popping it off every time. I can’t believe we haven’t switched straw water bottles for this long but we are finally doing it!!

We use some from sistema but the ones I have loved the most, I've gotten from Ikea. They're plastic and come with 3 compartments that you can take out. We have the Bentgo and they were nice when my boys were smaller and were ok with a snacky type lunch but now that they're in 1st and 3rd grade, the compartments are just too small for what they eat.

We also like the Sistema containers. I used a small one with two compartments for my preschooler’s snack this year. I got them at Walmart. The teacher wanted something small that they could open easily. I have several of the bento cubes. I found them at target.

Our school go to is the yumbox panino but it's similar in price to the bentgo, I have found all of our yumbox containers at the LL Bean outlet for 30-50% off.

But our more affordable favorites are by sistema. We have some of the lunch cube, bento cube, bento box, bento lunch, salad kit, and a variety of individual containers. I like the low price point and that they are still easy to use. I actually reach for them more in the summer because I feel like we have a higher chance of losing them or breaking them while on the go. They haven't held up quite as well as the yumbox - all of our yumboxes are from 2018 and still going strong - but for the price point I have been pleased with how long they last.

I realize this isn't the right time of year for this post, but now that my youngest isn't quite as nap-dependent I am hoping to spend a lot more time outside in the afternoon at the pool or on walks or at playgrounds and plan to eat more lunches on the go this summer.

Does anyone have any bento-style kid lunch box recommendations other than the Bentgo ones that's a bit more affordable? I need to buy 3 and I can't justify $90 on lunchboxes right now. Bonus points for a grown up lunch box as well.

DD has been using our regular utensils since she was about 3.5. We started having her use our regular dishes at the same age, but still have some plastic ones for occasional use. We really like the replay divided ones linked above as well as the replay deep sides plates - they are nice for giving an edge for things that need to be scooped.

I like ikea for cutlery and target for divided plates. The kids have their own low drawer for dishes and cups so they set their own table (they eat earlier than us) and we also eat outside a lot so they set the table themselves out there (which involves a steep set of stairs so I don’t want glass or ceramic on that). Target makes both divided and undivided plates, as well as matching bowls.

My 6 & 8 year old have been using our regular Oneida teaspoons and salad forks for awhile now. The exceptionally small three year old likes to use them, but I think she does a bit better with kid-sized cutlery (we have a few Nuby sets with the metal "heads", and some similar Disney ones).

Recently I've just been having the girls use our regular Crate & Barrel dishes, or our outdoor melamine set when we are dining on the patio/if I'm sending them out to the playset to eat. In the last year, we've broken one bowl, and that was because my 3 year old whacked it off the table (and I wasn't watching her like I should have been). I personally find that kiddie plastic doesn't dry well in the dishwasher, so using "real" dishes saves me a lot of work!

My kids (4&6) just use our regular spoons and salad forks. The do still have plastic bowls they use from Target and cups.

We just use our normal every day dishes at cutlery for my 3.5 and 8 year old. We do have some plastic bowls from target that we use for snacks. But they handle the every day stuff pretty well and we haven’t had any broken dishes yet...
