I felt fine with both but failed the 1-hour and passed the 3-hour. With the 3-hour I was surprised how OK I felt, especially when my numbers came back and the last draw was really, really low compared to the expected/cutoff.

So my OB has all his patients do the two hour test, if you fail no need to do the three hour. Anyway, I felt like crap both times because I had to fast but I passed. I just made sure to have snacks for when I was done!

Same as others, I felt awful and passed with flying colors. Almost immediately when I drank the drink I felt like I was going to vomit and then for most of the day I was shaky and sweaty. Like you, I worried it meant something was wrong, but my level was 85 when the threshold is 130.

I think feeling bad is good! Or at least it’s not a bad thing. I always felt horrible after mine and passed no problem 3x. My ob was unconcerned (since I saw her right before the end) but told me to eat some protein stat.

I nearly passed out after my 1 hr glucose test (my husband had to pick me up and help carry me to the car afterwards.) I felt like I was going to throw up, was shaking, etc. I passed just fine! I have no idea what happened.

@MamaBear87: not exactly--2nd practice still wanted it, but he was surprised the first practice ordered it at the 9 week appointment to be done right away.

I would definitely either bite the bullet and do the glucose test, or start monitoring with a glucometer early on.

@Happygal: so one practice wanted an early test and the other didn't?
I'm with midwives at a birth center and they're generally pretty hands off but I don't want to skip it if everyone else does it

@MamaBear87: Second go round, they wanted me to go early in the first trimester. When I switched practices, my OB was confused by this. I hate the drink, so I asked if I could start monitoring my levels on my own. Since I knew how to properly test, he was fine with this. It was a little stressful b/c it's not like having clear numbers with the screening. I did end up having it the 2nd time, my only risk factor being I had it before.

I had diet controlled GD with my second baby and was tested (and failed) at 24 weeks with my third. My midwife tested my HbA1c as part of my early bloods and I was spot checking my sugars throughout the early stages of my pregnancy. I was also following the GD diet about 75% of the time since finding out I was pregnant.

I had diet controlled gd with my first. I’m currently 19 weeks with my second. I’ve been having my GYN check my A1C annually since DS was born. It’s always been normal. By OB was going to order one at my first prenantal until I told her that I just had it done about a month prior. She mentioned taking my GTT early this time but she hasn’t brought it up since. So we’ll see. I’m hoping she’ll let me wait until after Thanksgiving.

I had gd with my first and had to get tested early with my second. I passed that test, but then when I had to retake it at the normal time failed the one hour tested. I did pass the 3 hour test, but still that meant I took the test 3 separate times!

@BadgerMom: Monitored longer because they test for GD earlier if you had GD with previous pregnancies. They were able to detect a heart condition due to earlier monitoring and then later there was concern for size.

@hummusgirl: That is an interesting turn of events. Did you have your A1C done between pregnancies? How long after your second were you diagnosed?

@Ms.Mermaid: @MrsBucky: Thanks! That gives me hope, but I'm not too optimistic.

@yin: Why did they monitor you more with the second? Was it because the baby was small, or did they find that out with the additional monitoring?

I came to an agreement with my OB that as long as my GD was well controlled with diet, she wouldn't use just the diagnosis to base any additional monitoring or interventions on. I was find with additional monitoring or needed interventions if they were required, but I was worried about having the the GD blanket placed over my pregnancy unnecessarily. I went into labor naturally before my 38 week appointment, so we never really made it to the point of having to discuss additional monitoring and such. I have a different OB this time, so it's nice to see others experiences.
