We usually just give the main classroom teacher a gift for elementary. This year I ordered a personalized note pad and then I’ll give a gift card. There is a classroom contribution happening and the class moms are also collecting money for the classroom aides.

For preschool, a parent collects money from all parents and then divides it among 4 teachers. It is recommended that we contribute between $20-45.

For school aged we do main teacher and bus driver. There are one or two teacher appreciation days during the year that I feel like cover all teaching staff well (they get a really big breakfast).

For day care child this year they kindly stated the regular teacher helpers in the classroom on a recent letter home (there are several
floaters) so we will get something for the head teacher and the two regular helper teachers.

I always have such a hard time with this now that my kids have so many teachers!

DD1 is in 1st grade and has 1 main teacher plus:
-1 music teacher, 1 Chinese language teacher, 1 science teacher, 2 gym teachers, and I want to get something for the school nurse, because DD is apparently one of "those" kids who asks to go to the nurse all the time, and the nurse is really, really nice to her (and I've worked in several schools and usually the school nurses aren't very nice! haha).

DD2 is in public pre-K and has 1 main teacher and 1 teacher's aid, plus a parent liason, plus she has before and after care teachers.

Sigh. It's a lot.

I only do the main teachers in each classroom (Lead + assistants) not the other floaters or curriculum specific (music, Spanish, PE).

DS2 just moved up to the toddler class so I don't know the teachers on a personal level yet. His daycare does provide a sheet with their favorite things so I can tailor the gift to their preferences. Usually a gift card and something small like candy or a lotion.

For Kindergarten, we're collecting money to split between three teachers (1 main, 1 PT, 1 aid). This is the best news ever because I had always been on my own at daycare! I get a small gift for the car line lady.

For daycare, it's usually 1 main teachers + 2 assistants. I also do director/assistant director, and then a group gift (usually food) for aftercare/anyone else that floats around.

DD is in K this year and DS is in an in home with one provider.

So we are just doing :
K teacher
DS daycare lade

4 before and after care people for DD (smaller gifts)

We don't have a bus but if we did I would buy the bus driver something too... My mom always got our bus driver nice gloves from tractor supply every year and he loved them and he always took time to take special care of me and my brothers and i'm pretty sure it was bc of that gift every year!!!

There are some helpers in DD K class but they are assigned to certain students who need addl help so i am not getting them anything

We will get LO1 teachers something small. I’m thinking either a cute bag full of some goodies like nail polish, wrapped snacks, a card, small body spray, candles, socks etc or just a gift card to Starbucks! lol I don’t know depends what I can get done but I’d like to do a little small bag! They rock so they deserve it!

I always think people on these threads are so generous and maybe part of this is regional but we only give a small gift to the main teacher and ideally it would be child made - we made a lot of ornaments when we were kids and just did our main teacher and our piano teacher

For elementary we just do main teacher (but there’s no regular support person and we don’t have a bus). Typically they’ve always been class gifts where we just contribute - I prefer that because there’s a set amount vs you feeling cheap if you don’t give much. That said I know teachers appreciate anything! Our school also does some collections like last week was custodial staff which is very helpful.

My oldest is in kindergarten this year so I'm navigating a new world of gifts. Who gets them and how much? (my standard gift is target gift cards)

I was considering the following--i want to give appropriately but not go overboard:
Main teacher
para educator (is his room half day every day)
resource teachers (art, music, PE, library)
bus driver

Who do you give to and how much?

I'd do one or the other, but I'm in the same boat as @peachykeen: and @Ajsmommy:. We are supposed to bring something predesignated in theme every day. Each teacher has filled out a list, which was emailed to us, of all of their favorite things. We have NINE teachers we were provided lists for. So nine teachers times five gifts equals 45 gifts. 45!!! That's a little ridiculous, right? I appreciate the teachers, but I do not at all appreciate how they've asked us to express said appreciation. Rant over. Sorry. You are a good mom to be considering these things in advance. :)

Oy, this is a point of contention for me.... DD's preschool is doing teacher appreciation week.. like I get it.. teachers are great and are wonderful and we should show them our appreciation but a whole week? and then on top of that they have given out things to do each day of the week.... like Monday bring in a breakfast item, Tuesday bring in one flower per teacher, weds bring in a personalized jar, thurs draw a picture of you and your teacher... as if we aren't busy enough add this in!!! Plus they also have little forms each teacher filled out with their likes and things they enjoy so we can go ahead an buy them additional things on top of the assignments. grrrrrrr I'm sorry it just rubs me the wrong way. I am sure I am in the minority and i'll probably get blasted for my opinion but ...... here it is anyway.

To answer the poll question: I would probably do something small for teacher appreciation day and then a bigger card/gift card for the end of the year

So my daughters' preschool/daycare does 2 teacher appreciation WEEKS which I am not a fan of. I give something small (a handwritten note card and donuts, muffins, or cookie bars) on one day during the appreciation weeks and do something a little bigger for Christmas & end of school year. This is DD1's first year at the elementary school, so I will probably keep hers smaller starting this year since she spends fewer hours there than she ever has at daycare/private pre-K.

For the daycare teachers, I usually give a $5-10 gift card and something small to go with it or Christmas/end of year. One year I gave succulents, another tote bags, etc. But really the main gift is the small gift card.

I consider them mutually exclusive events, but that might be because this year I was responsible for planning our school's Teacher Appreciation Week and I'm not a class parent (who generally collect for end-of-year gifts). :) :)

If something weren't organized by the school, I'd likely send a nice note/drawing from my child in with a small physical gift (plant, something from her class wish list) for Teacher Appreciation Week, and a gift card for end-of-year.
