My oldest is in kindergarten this year so I'm navigating a new world of gifts. Who gets them and how much? (my standard gift is target gift cards)

I was considering the following--i want to give appropriately but not go overboard:
Main teacher
para educator (is his room half day every day)
resource teachers (art, music, PE, library)
bus driver

Who do you give to and how much?

Teacher appreciation day is May 7th and DS's last day of preschool is May 17th. Would you give a gift/do something for the teachers on both days, just one, or neither? His last school had a parent group that would organize a group gift, but it doesn't look like that's happening at this school.

I just realized DD only has 8 more days with her preschool teacher who we love so much. If there are any preschool or elementary school teachers out there, what would you suggest as a gift? What are some of the most meaningful parting gifts you’ve received or what have you appreciated the most? We will definitely be writing a heartfelt card (I’m seriously going to cry when I write it—I’m not sad at all about DD going to K but will really miss her caregivers) but also want to get something for her. She and DD seem to have a special bond and other teachers there have even commented to us about how they’re buddies. I also want to do something for the aides. They rotate through the rooms so DD has been with some of them for 2 years now. She will go to aftercare twice per week there (different caregivers) and DD2 will continue to go there if that makes any difference. TIA!

I am planning to give a small gift to my son's preschool teachers for Christmas, but I was wondering if anyone gives a gift to the principal? She's very friendly and I like her a lot, so I was thinking about getting her something small too. But then if I give her a gift, does that mean I should also give something to the assistant principal and the other office lady? I'm not sure where to draw the line.

So, someone explain to me about daycare teacher gifts?

We've only been at this daycare for 2 months (and I don't love it). Are gifts to teachers expected?

Growing up, we NEVER gave gifts to teachers so this is new territory for me.

Long story short, our daycare is closed for two weeks during the summer, so we've been having a temp nanny come to our house so DH and I can continue working. This cost is largely subsidized through a partnership my employer has with care.com - the nanny is actually an employee of care.com, and receives full benefits and a salary through them, and thus, doesn't accept tips.

BUT - she has been seriously SO amazing with my boys. Every time I check on them with our camera system, she's down on the floor playing games with them or entertaining them with books/crafts/puppets and who knows what else. I can hear giggling before the video even turns on.

So that being said, does anyone have any ideas for a thank you gift (non-monetary) for her? I know literally nothing about her other than the fact that she's in her late 40s, punctual, and some kind of child-entertaining wonder.

DD's pre-school teacher is getting married in July and I would LOVE to coordinate something from the class. I'd prefer it be some cute/sentimental as opposed to expensive 1) I dont know how many parents will contribute and 2) I think sentimental stuff is better anyways.

Does anyone have any killer ideas? unfortunately with how tight the classrooms are in the summer it will be hard for me to get support from the other teachers but I am sure I could get another Mom or two to come in and help me with something...

While I don't get too many invites to graduation parties, my husband coaches three varsity sports and we end up getting more and more invites every year. Typically we will give a card/cash, but it adds up! I'm curious what other bees do?

Quick question, I emailed a parent from my son's class about contributing to the basketball tickets, since I hadn't got around to any other contribution or participation. I am shocked, call me cheap, but she got 2 tickets for $350 each for the two main teachers. My question is how much can I contribute without seeming stingy... I was thinking $50 total, but thats such a tiny percentage is that ridiculous? I guess I could stretch to $100 total. I just already pay so much for this school, and he only goes 9h/week, I would rather give them a heartfelt card and maybe a token gift. I do appreciate them but 700 is crazy!!! This is addition to other daily gifts, ranging from amazon gift card, treats, etc.

I was about to email her saying I am gonna give them something on my own, and she had already emailed me saying she hadn't heard from me and didnt want us to feel left out and had to drop them off today so she already signed our name, no pressure to donate. So nice, but of course I feel the need to donate!

We have one official room mom and another that also does a lot for LO's class. Both are really nice and well organized and I know they add a lot to the class.

Hi All!

I'm a first time mom with our first Holiday around the corner for gift giving to our daycare teachers and I have been following all the treads on here about what to get the teachers. My husband and I decided that we are going to give cash, as I don't know them well enough to give personalized gifts of any kind.

Here is my dilemma. Hopefully you can follow along.

When my son first started in May he had 2 main head room teachers, Ms. B and Ms. P, and 1 part-time teacher, Ms. N (of course others filled in for vacations, etc..), but basically 3 teachers/caregivers. In September one of the main teachers (that was there for 18 years in the infant room - just couldn't physically handle infants anymore), Ms. P, and moved to another older room at the daycare, but is still there and does fill in every now and again. Another teacher from the older room came into the infant room, Ms. A. Starting September we now again have 2 main teachers, Ms B. and Ms. A, and the same part time teacher Ms. N. We were told that the school is interviewing a replacement for Ms. P and will let us know. Now in late October, we were notified that a new teacher was hired for the infant room, Ms. S and told that Ms. A will stay in the room until Ms. S is fully trained that then Ms. A will move back to her old room starting December 1st. So at one point we had 4 teachers, 3 fulltime Ms B, Ms. A, Ms. S, and 1 part time Ms. N. Now Ms A. is no longer in the room and it is 2 full time, Ms. B, Ms. S, 1 and part time teacher Ms. N.

I have no idea what to do for gift amounts... Do I give everyone a cash gift? Ms. B, Ms. P, Ms. A, Ms. S, and Ms. N??? Do I give them all the same amount? Obviously Ms B. and Ms. N were there the entire time, but the other 3 were not...

I will also be bringing in a platter of cookies for the teachers all to share in the kitchenette...

Anagram on "Nanny--Christmas gift. Help?"

I want to start by saying that we really like our nanny. She's generally very good with our youngest, and we love that she picks up our oldest from school every day. And because we like her, we try to treat her well.

VERY LONG BACKGROUND INFO HERE (feel free to skim) : I bring her little gifts on holidays or just because, and I let her go early 80% of the time but she is always paid for her full hours. We are on a pretty tight budget, which our nanny knows. We only have a nanny because it's significantly cheaper than daycare for 2 kids in our town. We pay her right in the middle of the local pay scale and we don't ask her to prepare meals at all. I prepare the girls lunches and snacks the night before and leave them for her. And we pay overtime if we ever need it, we don't "exchange hours", and she gets more paid time off than most nannies because I'm a teacher. For example: Since September, she's had 3 day labor day weekend, 3 day Columbus day weekend, 4 day weekend for Jewish holidays, She's about to have a 4 day weekend Nov 9-12, a 4 day weekend for Thanksgiving, and 1 and a 1/2 weeks for Christmas. All paid at the usual rate. And we gave her a raise after her first 6 months. Feb 1 will be one year with us.

QUESTION HERE: Okay, so in my area, it's somewhat common to give nannies a Christmas bonus of a whole week's pay. I mean, not everyone does it, but many do. Giving her an additional $750 cash, on top of the paid 1.5 week vacation seems pretty crazy to me. We would be paying 1700 for 1.5 weeks of her not working. Neither my husband nor I get Christmas bonuses at work. It's like, not a thing in our industries.

So, is there anything else we can give her instead for a year end gift? I'm happy to spend about $100. Or give her a cash gift of $100 with a little gift? Or is that like a slap in the fact because it's not an entire week's pay?

I find the gift giving is more situational for me. If it's someone who usually doesn't give a gift when they don't attend, I don't bother myself. But, when it's something like a shower we usually give a gift regardless.

We've been doing swim lessons at the Y for over a year and LO has had Miss Ginger as her teacher for every session. She just loves her we talk about her a lot and LO is always telling me that she's going to "show Miss Ginger her bubbles, scoops, kicks, etc" in the bath tub.

We found out last week that the next session will be her last at the Y and her family is moving to FL after school lets out (she has kids) in June.

We'd like to get her a thank you gift from our LO any ideas? keeping under $25 please. My first idea was a bag of Lifesavers and a Target GC, but i'm wondering if anyone else could come up with something better.

We *really* like our girls teachers right now.

DD2's one teacher has a 15m at home and she was asking where we bought the little green pouches we've been using. We got talking about how pouches are so expensive! So I was ordering something from Amazon the other day and threw a box of Little Green Pouches in there for her little boy!

We really appreciate how much our girls teachers love them and take such great care of them!

We just started last September, so we've only gifted for Christmas (gift cards and treats for the other teachers/director) and then a small box of chocolates for Valentine's Day.

I always wonder every holiday if I should bring something in for the teachers!

Which holidays do you "gift" your LO's teachers/daycare providers?

My DH picked up a bunch of amazing wine and I am wondering if it's okay to give to our LO main teacher . His teacher's assistant is actually our next door neighbor (Yay small towns) and I know she's on board for a bottle for an end of school year gift but unsure if it's a good idea for his class teacher . Give it with a cute note or go a gift card route instead?

And yes, I know end of school is 2 months away, I might have a small planning obsession,

Ds starts a new school next week and his teacher wants to have a going away party for him this week. I think it's super thoughtful but expressed to her by no means did she feel obligated to do so, but she insisted.

Would you get the teachers in the room a small gift of gratitude? Ideas?
