What hair ties do you guys use for your kids? The little knit ones aren't working on my 4 yo - fine hair, wavy texture. Would love to know what other moms have found (bonus if available on Amazon  )

Anyone have recommendations for sturdy sunglasses for a toddler? My 18 mo has destroyed 2 pairs of babiators by wrenching off the arms. She doesn’t do it on purpose and cries when they break, but just can’t seem to help it. 😕

What products do you use on a little boy’s hair? DS is 5.5 and his hair is stick straight, fine, and pretty thin. He’s just gotten interested in styling his hair but DH’s hair pomade doesn’t hold it well.

anybody has a product that they recommend? My daugher's hair is so sleek and fine (shouldn't complain ...right?) so it's slippery when I attempt to braid. Any texturizer... or how do you do it? Any youtube video suggestion for easy braiding? (I can only do a simple braid.. not even a french braid...
Thank you!

My 7 year old has very thick hair. She has insisted she wants to grow it long and especially since the pandemic started and we haven't been getting haircuts, it's gotten long and thick. Which means epic tangling, despite using conditioner and detangler regularly. Every morning and every night and after every shower, she is literally screaming her head off about how much the tangles hurt, and I keep telling her then we need to cut your hair and she gets mad about that and it makes the whole thing worse. Every single day. I'm sick of it, but I also want to respect her body autonomy. I've taught her how to comb her hair, DH and I are always there to help if she can't do it herself or wants help, it doesn't matter, nothing seems to help the daily tantrum over this.

So, first, is there a magic solution that I'm missing to help this issue in the first place? Her hair typically gets washed every other day/every 2 days, depending on how sweaty she gets playing, always shampoo and conditioner, then we comb it with a wet comb and put a detangling spray in, put it up in a twist towel (though even if we don't do this the results are the same) and she prefers to have it air dried, which we typically do, but on days where she showers closer to bedtime we do hair dryer (which she also really hates). Regardless of what we do, though, the tangles are still pretty major. Switching her pillowcase isn't realistic because she rarely sleeps on a pillow/very mobile during sleep, which probably contributes to the tangling.

Second, if there is no magic product, is there a better way to set boundaries here? I am just so over the shouting all the time, at something she herself insists on. I've told her all this before and she's generally a smart kid but still, every damn day this is a thing.

Thank you! #tearingmyhairout

My third (20 months) finally got DH’s curly hair. They are really cute, bouncy ringlets - her hair is still really soft and fine (I expect she’ll get more texture as dh has more, but it will probably stay on the looser/wavier side). I think it’s needing more help as it gets longer though.

Given no one else has more than light wave I’m not sure what to do with it. I can see that less brushing is more but how does that work with tangles? What products work best to show off the cuteness? Her original hair growth was just a strip down the middle (that hangs right in her face) and is totally straight so we clip that to the side. I hope that curls too eventually!

Thanks for helping out a straight haired mama :silly:

My 8 year old has fine hair that is also wavy. For school I always put the front in clips or braids to keep it out of her face, but at home she’s been wearing it down (because who cares?) but I feel like it needs help. It’s just the top/roots that are so flat and limp. She washes her own hair now and I’m not sure she gets all the shampoo out - we are working on that. She conditions only from about ears down to deal with tangles and waves. She is very anti washing every day and usually air dries.

Any advice? Can fine hair look good if you aren’t blow drying daily? Products that might help? Since she likes it down I’d like to figure it out but maybe it’ll be when she’s older and more willing to “do” her hair. My hair isn’t this fine ... maybe it was at that age but I always had an 80s/90s perm and blowout! :silly:

Does anyone teach themselves how to give little boys haircuts? I have three boys, only two get haircuts right now but they need a trim like every six weeks and it’s so expensive! I’d love to learn how to do it myself but I’m scared. Their hair is too fine and thin to just buzz it short.

My other girl was much better at leaving things in her hair. This one I can’t get away with anything! It’s at an awkward phase where it seems too short to do pigtails but it’s always in her face (longest pieces near the front) and any clips/headbands/etc get pulled out. If I do manage to distract her at first she pulls it out the second she sees it!

Maybe I just have to wait it out ... pro trips appreciated!

My DD is 3 and her curls make her hair look way shorter than it is - haha. She is *just* getting to the point where her hair might start to get in her face. I tied a bandanna around her head this past weekend when we were being silly (it was raining and I was grasping at straws to keep her and her brother from losing it in tight quarters) and I thought - hmm, this might be the solution moving forward.

Does anyone buy or know where I could find headbands like this - but for toddlers? [emphasis on the simple aspect - no giant bows etc) Not infants (I assume that would be too small....)

Thanks :)

What hair ties do you use for short little girl hair? I personally have thick curly/wavy hair and use the black ouchless elastic hair ties https://www.amazon.com/Goody-Ouchless-Elastic-Bands-No-metal/dp/B009O3I64G?th=1
obviously these are much too big and bulky for little girl hair, so what do I use for tiny pony tails or pig tails?

I personally have curly/wavy hair. But wore it sorta straight until I was out of high school and someone showed me how to use moouse and scrunch it. I am a very VERY low maintenance type person and don't claim any expertise in the area of hair.

My DD has crazy hair. Sometimes it looks like tight curls - almost as tight as a pencil. Sometimes it is just off the wall crazy. Sometimes she has wide curls. Sometimes it just has a little wave and almost looks like she's straight haired (definitely after she wears a hat! and more often on the second day after bath day).

Should I keep riding the 'she's too little to care' train until I can't anymore? Should I be doing sometime to define her curls more?

Here are some pics....the wet hair is just water - not gel or anything.

One day I tried putting product in and it lasted for about an hour before she went back to nutso hair. Hah.

Attention Target shoppers! :silly: This mama needs your help! My daughter lost a favorite headband at school a few weeks ago and is pretty bummed. I am trying to find one for her Easter basket.

It came from Target, big girl section (not toddler), and is dark purple/navy glitter with small cat ears (pic attached).

Will happily PayPal the headband cost and shipping to anyone who can find one in their store, or has one their LO doesn’t wear and wants to sell!

This was in stores around October or November, so I’m not incredibly optimistic, but I could swear that I saw in one of my local target a few weeks ago just before she lost it, and stupidly passed on buying a back up....silly me. Just checked today and it’s not there, so I am trying to widen my search.

Thanks, mamas!

How do your store your LO’s jewelry? My 4 year old has a growing collection of necklaces and bracelets and a few rings- kid stuff— the actual nicer gifts she’s been given I keep with my jewelry. But right now it’s all over the place and I find it in every room of the house. I’m trying to come up with an easy solution for her to store it and keep track of it, that won’t get broken easily (like the jewelry boxes I’ve seen at home goods seem like she would break the door or top off by accident).

Do you use any products in your kiddos' hair, or use a blow dryer or other tools?

Lo1 has pretty wild, wavy hair that is still kind of uneven in the front (she's had a few haircuts but her bangs are still growing out). I try to at least brush it and use de-tangler, and then either pull the bangs out of her eyes with a clip or put it up, but she doesn't always let me. When we were visiting my mil recently, mil got into the habit of blow-drying lo1's hair after her bath, mostly because it was really cold out and we didn't want her hair to be wet when we went outside. But, it also looked WAY better and more tamed! I feel a bit torn though, because even though it looked less crazy, I worry that the heat will be bad for her hair in the long run, and I also don't want lo to feel she HAS to have it styled/not just natural. I also have really different hair than her, which complicates things--mine is super curly and I put in products but just let it air-dry. But I also feel like my parents didn't know how to do my hair when I was a kid (they brushed my curly hair-horror of horrors! haha) and I don't want it to look like a hot mess just because I don't know how to manage it.

Eta pic to show you what I’m working with!! It’s partially braided back here but she wouldn’t let me fix it so that the front part was out of her eyes...

If your daughter has curly hair, when did you first cut it? Did you go to someone who specializes in curly hair?

My almost 4.5 year old has started asking for a hair cut. Her hair is really curly in the summer and sort of curly in this super dry winter air. It’s still not that long- even brushed out straight it’s not quite mid back, and the front pieces still come out of ponytails and braids. I know we’ve gotten away with no cuts for a long time but I guess I might bring her soon...

My DD’s is 14m and her hair’s starting to really get in her face. On the weekends I tend to put it in pigtails, but usually she pulls them out at some point, mostly at nap.

I have been reluctant to put anything in her hair when she goes to daycare because I figure it’ll just come out and some point and I don’t want it to be a choking hazard for another kid (so far she hasn’t seemed interested in putting them in her mouth). But looking at her this morning I think we’re going to have to start doing something or it’ll be in her eyes. I don’t want to cut it because then we’ll have to maintain her bangs.

Should I just send her to school with hair ties and and the teachers manage it? Or wait until she doesn’t pull them out?

Picture for reference (and cuteness 😊).

Has anyone found cheapie headbands that are similar to Baby Bling (sold at Nordstrom) -material almost like a nylon stocking, big-ish knot bow at the top? I'm hoping to find a pack of knock-offs on Amazon or elsewhere, but know from experience that those thing can be hit or miss...so I'm hoping someone may have already done the leg work.

I realize the quality won't be the same, but that's ok at this point. DD3 is almost out of the headband stage, and we (ok, I) tend to lose things more often these days since my attention when we're out and about is more focused on keeping track of DDs 1 & 2 (as opposed to keeping track of DD3's accessories/toys), haha. Thanks in advance!

My strawberry blonde 4.5yo LO wants to be Snow White for Halloween. She wears her Snow White dress all the time so I was thinking making her hair black for the evening would make the Halloween more special. LO was so excited about the idea, DH not so much.

What's the best way to go black for the evening? Or is it better to skip it entirely?

What gel do you use to style your LO's hair? DS1 got a new cut and the barber suggested to wet, gel, and comb the bangs back. Do you use any gel or one for kids? I only saw 1 kid gel on Amazon and it looked like it was mostlyaloe so I wonder if anyone has tried straight aloe gel.

Does anyone else feel like they can never find the perfect socks for their kid? I feel like so many are super thick... or they are all crazy colorful and I can't make those work with whatever crazy colorful outfit they are wearing.

Does anyone have any sock recommendations?
