I love their picks! If you want to steer them towards spf hats and depending on budget, Wallaroo offers more stylish options and I have worn them for years, they hold up well. Here is a link to the kids section but they may be able to wear small adult hats?

Thanks for the recommendations on the rash guards. I'm a big rash guard fan. Fortunately I had a doctor recommended a rash guard to me in college before a trip to the South Pacific and I've been a rash guard evangelist ever since. I've even expanded to swim pants/leggings for the family because it's easier than sunblock. We'll see long my 9 year old will agree to that.

I've had less luck convincing the kids to wear their hats. They have Sunday Afternoon hats and I agree they're awesome functionally but the kids want more stylish hats.

I decided to let the kids shop for their own hats hoping they would pick something they would wear. These are their top contenders

7 year old boy picked a white fedora
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08SM3D53V/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=A3UPOQZ89KZEOO&psc=1

9 year old girl picked a bacon bucket hat
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B38SK1G9?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image

I'm concerned there won't be enough brim on the hats so I'm also searching for like items with a bigger brim.

My DD is 8 and wears this sunhat the most. She likes how it fits and I like how easily it adjusts and how much coverage it has. https://a.co/d/iEgpJ1P

She also has this one because she wanted one with a ponytail opening. She doesn't like it as much but does wear it occasionally. https://a.co/d/cu8mhVL

Another big thing we do for sun protection is have her wear a rash guard for all sorts of outdoor adventures. A short sleeve rash guard keeps her shoulders and chest well protected from the sun and then I don't have to get as much sunscreen on her.

Anyone have a recommendation for a sun hat that their kids will wear? My pale redhead kids are in 4th and 2nd grade. We're headed to Hawaii next month and I want to spend as little time fighting about hats and sun protection as possible.

I got a great pair of Kombi ones at Carters for my almost 2 year old - I love them because they're very long but they unzip right to the thumb, so I can get his thumb in the space and then zip them up over his coat sleeves and no snow gets under them.

We have these SnowStopper ones from Amazon and they worked great in the snow this weekend! The long cuffs are really nice - we put them on before his coat and it helps a) keep him from taking them off and b) prevent that little gap between his mittens and coat sleeve.

@Foodnerd81: I got my toddler mitts on sale from stonz. They’re great, but mainly serve to keep her hands warm... they don’t have finger spaces in them and she’s young enough she doesn’t ‘play’ in the snow really so she hasn’t tried to lift anything with them on.

LL bean if you can catch them on sale. I gave them a whirl on my 2.5 year old glove-hater this weekend and she LOVED them. They stayed on for an hour and with the Velcro sides they were super easy to get on/off. Her hands were warm and dry in wet slushy snow.

@Becky: oh I know they have a million on amazon. That’s where i got the pair that I lost, which were... fine. Her hands were dry but they were annoying to put on and she could take them off herself pretty easily. I’m thinking about getting the Snowstoppers people rave about but just not sure if it’s worth the extra cost. But they should be able to wear them for a couple years each.

Pretty cheap too! We got the 1 1/2 - 2 yo size and they fit DS who just turned 2 in nov well with room to grow

Current favorite waterproof mittens for toddlers and preschoolers?

We had our first snow storm this weekend and I realized I can’t find my 4 year olds waterproof mittens and the almost 2 year old never had them. I didn’t like the missing ones anyway, but both went out in the snow with the cheap carters knit ones, so time to get some more.

Easy to put on, hard for little fingers to take off, and keep hands warm and dry. Preferably cheap because they don’t play in the snow THAT much (like at school they hardly seem to play outside after it snows even though they say they do).

@Mrs. Goose: @MrsADS: I love these. They are the Sunday Afternoons play hats that @Iced Tea: recommended. I got the 2-5 year old size even though they are almost too big for my 20 and 18 mo olds because I figured they'd last longer that way. So far so good. They are staying on well and provide far better coverage than anything else I've found.

Sunday Afternoons Play Hat, hands down. It doesn't flop and is super lightweight. It's the only hat my toddler will happily wear; I think she barely notices she's wearing it. I got hers on sale, but now I'd gladly pay full price for one knowing how good it is. They sell it on their website and also Amazon and REI.

So this is a big floppy sun hat, but it cinches around the head and has a chin strap. Because of the dual cinch, we can actually put the chin strap behind C's ears and she can't get it off.

Well we haven't tried on my oldest this year yet (it's just now getting warm enough in NorCal) but he couldn't last season. I'll probably knot it below the chin strap if he yanks it.

@gingerbebe: Thanks, this looks perfect! They haven't figured out how to pull the cinch on the chin strap yet? T loves hats, luckily, since he is still pretty bald on top of his head. O not so much and she's clever about getting things off.

Neck flap cover + the drawstring cinch at the chin is key for me. My kids hate hats and rip them off if I can't lock it on their heads.

Looking for sun hats for this summer. I have one bucket hat with a wide brim but when T runs the brim flops in his eyes. Not so good for a crash-prone 20 month old. Any favorites?
