I don't do it often, but I love crafting. However, I am not a huge fan of crafting things just for the sake of it and accumulating a bunch of decorative items. I've thought about getting some of those watercolor boxes, but I would have to love it to frame it or it would just sit in a closet somewhere. What does that leave me? I'd like something I can just pick up here and there when I have the time. Very little set up and clean up. Something I could do while watching a movie in the evenings. I thought about embroidery...any other suggestions?

My husband's dream of owning a house finally came true this summer and since we moved in, he's been talking about creating a workshop in our garage, building things, etc. For as long as I've known him (20ish years), the man barely knows how to lift a hammer, so I'm assuming this is just a nesting thing for him that will pass like most of his hobbies have, but I'd like to get him something for the holidays to support this new dream and have no idea where to start. He already has a basic toolbox, so I' m looking for something beyond that and ideally something that isn't absurdly expensive ($150-200 max). Would love any recommendations, thank you!

I'm really wanting to get a sewing machine. I learned how to sew as a kid and did it quite a bit but haven't done it in many, many years. I'm looking for a good machine for a beginner but that I won't "outgrow" too quickly. I don't want to regret getting something too basic but don't want to get something that is too challenging in the beginning. Hoping to spend $150 but possibly up to $200.

I have looking at the Brother CS6000i. Any thoughts on that one?

Would love any of your recommendations! Thanks!

Crafty bees: my husband broke an unpainted plaster rabbit sculpture that I loved, it has several major cracks running through it but is being held together by an internal piece of mesh. I want to try and fix it, but I've never used plaster before.

Can just glue the cracks with Elmers and put fresh plaster on top of it? Would the new plaster adhere to the original sculpture? Or is it like with pottery that's been through a kiln where the new stuff wouldn't join with the old stuff? Its texture is already intentionally super rough and I'm an artist, so I *think* I could get it looking okay if I knew how to use the material. I read that Elmers was better than superglue because it seeps into plaster's cracks and bonds it better, but ??

TIA for any tips  Here she is.

It would be more as a hobbie because I need to keep busy while on mat leave. I have an exercise physiology background and would like to use it as an accountability tool for myself and to also help others as well. Anyone have any advice or experience with running a blog?

E is 5 and in Kindergarten this year. He's expressed some interest in taking piano lessons. His only experience so far is a keyboard app on his tablet and those books with the attached keyboard. I was thinking that getting him a proper keyboard and some lessons might be a good Birthday present for his 6th birthday in May.

I didn't start playing an instrument until orchestra was offered at school in 5th grade, but would love to foster a love for playing music in my kids. I'm worried about him being too young to grasp the concepts and becoming disinterested quickly though. Is 6 a good age to start lessons, or should we maybe wait a few years on this?

A few veggies like sweet potato, onions. Anyone have favorite resources? DH is doing it as a hobby but he made some amazing salsa the other day and now I want to invest in setting up a bunch of mini crops and/or make the salsa a very very small business venture. I don't know where to start (online/offline) but I don't want to buy stuff unless I'm sure it will work. I'm thinking about what to do ensure healthy soil and what you throw on it.

I'm really into reading, and it's great that the library is easily accessible, but I kind of like to collect books and keep them as part of my hobby. Unfortunately books can get pretty expensive! Some months I don't buy any but some months I spend $30-$50. Of course some of this is part of gift money. I wish hobbies weren't so expensive, but luckily it gives me hours and hours of entertainment.

Has anyone ever done a 100DaysProject or something similar? I know a lot of you ladies have done the weekly photography of the kiddos as they grow over the course of a year. And I know a few of you have done something similar to "try something new once a month".

Only reason I heard about it was because of a lady I follow in instagram doing the 100dayproject and she turned it into a writing project - sending real, hand written mail for 100 days. That reminded me of the HB pen pals we used to have :) If you had to do something for 100 days, could you? What would you pick to do?

Hi. I've recently (very very recently) taken up crocheting. At this point I've just been practicing with single crochet but I would love to start a project. I was thinking maybe granny squares but the tutorials I've look up look a little above my level, any suggestions for a newbie?

Am I understanding correctly that for these programs the only way to use them would be to pay a monthly subscription now? I have no clue how to use them, but DH was thinking of buying me the programs to just play around with on occasion and discovered this. Kinda bummed, because for the way I would use them I wouldn't get my money's worth. Does anyone know anything about this or if you can still buy just the programs somehow without a prescription?
