My son is 8 days old and we are on a different poop journey.

Currently EBF and eating well and peeing regularly. My milk came in 3-4 day pp.

He hasn’t pooped since Sunday. He has only had five poops his whole life and one transitioned from meconium.

My midwife isn’t concerned... but I can’t find anything on google about this or anyone else that experienced this. Every day it’s like “okay, today!!” and yet still nothing.

Has this happened with anyone? I’m looking ease my postpartum hormones that are just tired of focusing and anticipating poop for five days now out of his short 8 days earthside.

Hi all, so I’m freaking out a little. I gave my 7 month old some squash soup last night from Panera and only realized today (after looking up a recipe since he LOVED it) that it’s made with honey. Realistically I know the chances of botulism are so low and he really only had a few bites, but I’m paranoid. I’ll keep an eye on him for signs of course but what would you do? Has anyone done this?

How do you know when it's bedtime for a newborn vs a nap? My 6 week old definitely treats night and day different, which is great... he'll sleep much longer at night than he does for naps and his first stretch will be about 4 hours before feeding. But I can't always figure out when it's going to happen which is frustrating because sometimes I do his little bedtime routine and take a long time to get him down, and then 30 minutes later he's up and I realize that wasn't bedtime. In general it seems to happen around 9PM but sometimes when it gets close...like say it's 7:30 and time for a sleep...I get confused! Anyone have any tips...or can share what time your LO's went to bed at 6 weeks? When does it become more predictable?

DD is 9 months old and, for the last couple months or so, she has been getting more and more grabby. She is constantly pinching me, pulling my hair, scratching me, smacking me in the face, putting fingers up my nose. I have bruises and scratch marks all over my arms. She is like this with objects, too. I've had to take everything off her change table because she gets hyper focused on reaching for stuff and will roll around trying to get things over and over. She desperately grabs for ANYTHING in her reach She is obsessed with anything tactile. DS was not like this at all. Normalish? Help?

Title pretty much says it—my almost five week old will NOT sleep in the bassinet. She only wants to be held, and mainly by me. She will only tolerate someone else holding her briefly before crying. She also wants to nurse constantly still. She’s gaining weight well and looks great, according to the pedi. So I guess this is a phase.

Not so much looking for advice, because I’ve tried literally everything—different swaddles, no swaddle, waiting 20-plus minutes after she falls asleep to transfer, pacifier, warming up the bassinet, etc. etc. At this point I can finally get maybe an hour of her in there at the beginning of the night, but that’s it.

ANYWAY, commiseration is appreciated, and/or reassurance that it will get better. We went through this briefly with my son, but by this point he was sleeping way better...in the Rock and Play. I’m not doing that again. I will sleep again someday, right? Because I’m getting about three broken hours a day and I’m so tired 😫

I had a baby boy 5 days ago. We are home now and I dont want to swaddle like in the hospital. We bought a woombie convertible. Hes wearing a short onesie (short sleeves and no legs) with a sleeper over top (long sleeves and feet) with the woombie on top. We also have a hat on him.

Should we add a blanket on top? Is he warm enough? Too warm? House is set to 22 celcius.

The struggle is so real with an infant in the winter 😖😖
How's your newborn doing? Do you have big brothers/sisters to take care of too? How are the babes sleeping? How's your husband doing (or what is he not doing 🙃)? Any sickness? PPD? And of course, breastfeeding issues?

Is there even such thing as a happy baby in the evenings? We are on baby #2 who vacillates between grumpy and all out wailing every night from 5-8 or so (he's 3 weeks). I'm am scared it will escalate into colic. it's one of my worst fears bc I have to work hard to battle PPD and SAD and the crying is so hard to deal w. My first son did this for months and I am really not looking forward to every dinner and bedtime being super stressful.
He "talks" a lot usually in a normal level babble but can randomly then get very loud with the squeals and shrieks! I'm hoping this is just a phase because my previous 2 were never this loud. Anyone else have a really loud baby

My 32-week preemie came home from a 7-week NICU stay on Thursday. He'll be 40-weeks corrected tomorrow. In addition to coming early, he's got some neuro and genetic anomalies of unknown clinical significance (aka, could mean anything or nothing). So far, he's very, very different from my first kid.

My newbie basically eats and sleeps. He's awake, alert, and interactive for a few brief periods each day (...and night). He makes a lot of fussy, grunty noises about gas/pooping, but only actually cries if he's hungry, cold, or really f$cking done with tummy time.

Is this what "normal" babies are like?

My first was a refluxy, colicky mess. He was usually screaming if he wasn't nursing. He cried upwards of 5 hours a day for his first 4+ months. And he didn't sleep so well -- usually only 6-8 hours per 24 and mostly in stretches of 40 minutes or less.

Do siblings come with such different temperaments? Or is this about being a preemie even though he's term now? Or does this portend that his genetic and neuro stuff is negatively impacting him?

Hi, my brand new baby boy is 9 days old. He hasn’t pooped since last Thursday which was 5 days ago and it was still the meconium transitional poop. He is EBF, has at least 6 wet diapers per day, seems to be happy and content and isn’t showing any signs of being in pain or constipated. At his weight check 3 days ago the pediatrician wasn’t worried yet. We don’t go back until next Monday but he seems to be on track for growth so far.

I seem to read all different things about newborn poop. Mostly that anything goes. I read that breastmilk is the perfect food and there isn’t waste and so they may not poop much, but then I also read they should be pooping with every diaper. I recall my daughter also been an infrequent pooper but she was slow to gain weight and the docs had me supplementing right away.

What has been your experience? Would you be worried? I just wish the kid would poop already!

DS spent the first 7 weeks of his life happy and easily going to sleep. He actually slept quite a lot, waking long enough to eat.

Then it is like a switch flipped, if he even started to get tired and was still awake he would scream but usually a minute or two ofvrocking and he'd be out.

He was doing 2.5-3 hour stretches through the night. Last night he was waking at less than two hours each time. He'd act hungry, nurse a few minutes and back asleep.

Today he has barely napped. Probably 2-3 hours out of 12. He has spent a majority of the day screaming because he is so tired. This evening he had a couple big nursing sessions and would fall asleep for about 5 minutes. Nonstop screaming. He just finally passed out on me and I'm afraid to put him down.

Any tips, tricks to get him back to bring happy and going to sleep? Commiseration? Hope that it will get better soon?

Thanks for reading my novel!

LO is 3.5 weeks old and so far, that's his 3 states. Asleep, or if he's awake, he's either eating or crying. He's practically never awake and just looking around and not crying, day or night so all i seem to do is feed him, which puts him to sleep, and then hope he sleeps as long as possible. So he ends up being awake long enough to eat, then right back to sleep. Is this normal?? I feel like everyone else has happy alert awake newborns, and I get maybe 5 minutes of that a day, not the 45-60 minutes of awake time between naps.

Since this weekend, my 3 week old has had on and off green poop. Sometimes it is the consistency of the mustard-like poop (but green) and then she just had a very frothy green poop. It feels like she is constantly pooping, but it's at regular intervals, so I am not sure I would call it diarrhea. I am trying to make sure I just feed from one breast to make sure she's getting the hind milk, too. She also has a pretty bad diaper rash. I never had this with my son...any insights or advice? Should I call the pediatrician?

My little baby girl is 11 weeks old and I can’t count on one hand how many times I’ve had her do tummy time. Awful, right?! I was the same way with my first. Maybe that’s why she didn’t sit up until 7 months and didn’t walk until 13 months? Who knows. Doctors recommended 10 minutes, twice a day. But both of my girls have hated it! I feel like I’m being mean, just letting baby lie there crying and squirming. What’s the trick to making it more enjoyable for them? Or is it the norm to just let them freak out for 20 minutes a day to gain that much needed neck strength? Help!

Hi All

My wee girl arrived just over two weeks ago and it’s become clear to us that she’s not going to be an easygoing or chilled out wee babe like her older siblings! She’s not content to just “hang out” and isn’t even that happy when she’s being held, and then throw in some colicky behaviour and a touch of reflux and it makes for some challenging moments!

Baby is currently EBF and gaining well (ten ounces in a week!) but is a very “windy” feeder which I’m guessing doesn’t help the grumpiness and she’ll often have a 2-3 hour crying jag in the evenings where she won’t want to feed and nothing will make her happy.

So, on to my question! Does anybody have any tips or tricks for comforting my wee grumpy bum? I’d really love some more tools in my toolbox...

Thanks!

DD is 6 weeks. She started developing this rash a couple days ago. I thought it was caused by being in her Solly wrap and getting too warm against my skin. But, now I’m not sure. It’s spread to both cheeks, her ear and the back of her neck. Anyone have experience with this? I’m assuming it’s normal, but thought I’d ask. I’ll also be calling her pediatrician tomorrow.

I’m fairly certain DS3 has a tongue tie (it’s super visible). It isn’t causing any breastfeeding discomfort for me, and he seems to be gaining weight well (we have his 1 mo well check Wednesday). BUT, he is super gassy, nurses very frequently, and you know. Doesn’t hardly sleep 😭 I’m obviously going to ask the ped too, but do these sound like tongue tie symptoms to you? (Google gives mixed results, as per usual)

Oh my gosh. I can't believe I'm posting this. I feel like the worst mother ever. But, I have to get it out and can't tell anyone in real life. I don't think my newborn daughter is as cute as my older daughter was as a baby. When I first saw her after delivery, I questioned if something was wrong with her and said she didn't look like my baby. Horrible, I know. Sometimes I look at her and she looks absolutely beautiful, other times I just think she's not very cute. I couldn't feel worse about these feelings/thoughts! I keep thinking she will get cuter with age, but then I realize I shouldn't care what she looks like.

Thank you for letting me get this out. I apologize if I have offended anyone in any way!

I like writing out monthly updates for the kids, posting them, saving them, and using them in our yearly photo albums. I prefer to do the same format / prompts.

For 0-12 months for LO1 I just wrote down likes, new skills, and memories. I also included height and weight if we had a recent dr appt.
For 12-24 months for LO2 I wrote Likes, Dislikes, Top 3 foods, New skills, Funny habit, and Current challenge.

Any other ideas/prompts/topics to incorporate, especially for an infant?

About to do our first, 1 month update for LO2 :)

My almost two week old hates his (rock n play) bassinet and instead prefers to be held (and ideally to use me as a human pacifier) at all times. We've tried the usual tricks - putting a nursing tank in there, using a heating pad on low to warm it up to body temperature before putting him in....no matter how out cold he is he'll wake up in a few minutes screaming. He will tolerate the swing or bouncer for short periods when awake or happy but doesn't nap in them, and likes the boppy lounger a bit more but it's not a safe sleep device. I feel like as a result his naps are not that great, and it's hard to keep him awake for feeding, as his real preferred place to sleep is while latched on, which I'm trying to prevent...

I know it's natural with such a little baby that they want to be held all the time, but how do I get him more comfortable with his bassinet? He also seems to hate swaddling - we've tried several types and any time he's alert enough to realize he's in it, he gets very agitated and tries desperately to break out.

My son was born about a week ago. We've been lucky to have a lot of support but between the various nurses/lactation consultants at the hospital and the pediatricians/nurses/lactation consultant we've seen at the daily weight checks that we were doing for awhile, we've gotten SO MUCH completely conflicting advice about pretty much everything - supplementing, pacifiers, pumping...and the list goes on. We've just been trying to experiment to find what works for us.

What has me scratching my head now in terms of conflicting advice is feed on demand following baby's cues versus the advice that baby needs a more rigid schedule - i.e. no more than 20 minutes at each breast, max 45 minutes awake, wake up every two hours. If I let him, my son can cluster feed for a long time, significantly exceeding the 45 minute awake time rule. He doesn't fuss and eventually falls asleep feeding. Looking for insight on what other mamas have done with really young infants - did you let your baby cluster feed even if it meant being up for quite awhile, or try to stick to a more rigid schedule?

My 7-month-old has had brown on the back half of her tongue for 12 days. It’s quite noticeable now, and creeping forward. She’s on breastmilk and finger foods. I feel it might be thrush, as she recently has had a fungal diaper rash and my breasts are getting a definite intermittent burning. We were at the pediatrician today and he believed it was staining from food. Anyone experience this? I know thrush is typically white, but can it be brown?
