Hi there HelloBee followers! My name is Stephanie and I am a graduate student at Duke University. I am conducting a study to better understand factors that impact mental heath during infertility for my dissertation. Please see information below and follow the link if you are interested. Many thanks.

The following survey will be used to design interventions to help women better manage the stress and uncertainty that can arise during infertility. If you are interested, please follow the link below to open the survey. You do not need to be currently seeking treatment for infertility to be eligible. The initial survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and there will be a 5 min follow-up survey. Participation is voluntary and confidential. Please feel free to share the link below on other platforms relevant to infertility or with other women who you know are experiencing infertility.

After my second, I had some postpartum complications and had to be seen by an RE. While doing an ultrasound, he commented that he thought I had adenomyosis based on the ultrasound. I didn’t have any of the symptoms, though (painful periods, etc) and I did go on to get pregnant two more times after that (one a miscarriage and the other is my 4 month old).

Has anyone had successful implantation with adenomyosis?

Long story, but I have a large mass near my ovary. MRI revealed mild adenomyosis too. I'm just thinking about complications and possibilities down the road if I can keep my uterus.

I also wonder if the adenomyosis has been the issue the whole time? I've had many Transvaginal ultrasounds, but never an MRI before now.

I know on HB there is an active group of women who post for support related to infertility, in addition to those who read along silently. I'm posting this study below in case any of y'all are interested in participating! Please wall me if you'd like more information. Thank you!

----

We are researchers at Duke University interested in understanding how personality affects people’s experiences with infertility.

This one-time survey is open to women at least 18 years old who are currently experiencing infertility. You do not need to be currently seeking treatment for infertility to be eligible. The survey should take no more than 20 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous.

After completing the survey, you will have the opportunity to be entered into a free raffle to win a $40 Amazon gift card. Ten winners will each receive a $40 Amazon gift card. The chances of winning will depend on how many people complete the survey. The winners will be contacted via email when the study is complete.

You can use this link to see if you are eligible and complete the survey: http://dukedpn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3IWViObFaM0u2UJ

Feel free to forward this link to others who may be interested in participating. This study has been reviewed by the Duke University IRB (IRB: 2019-0608). If you have questions about this study, please contact Erin Davisson at ekb8 AT duke DOT edu

@yellowbeach: Yes, definitely. We had to think through that too and we even made a separate batch of embryos that were tested for any transfers to a GC for that exact reason. I totally understand your line of thinking and that definitely seems like the right call to me.

Ok, you ladies have helped me really try and think through some of this to see if I should seriously explore this or not, and the answer is definitely no. Here's the main reason why:

This person is anti-abortion, and I am pro-choice. As many of you know, we had to TFMR for T21 last year, and if faced with the same situation again, would likely make the same choice. These are untested embryos. You see where I am going with this...

Hi there! Here is a post that I wrote that includes a basic outline of the things that are generally required to be a GC. https://www.hellobee.com/2016/11/21/requirements-to-become-a-surrogate/

I don't want to scare you but reading @MamaBear87: comments, I also have a friend who had a pretty tough surrogate situation with someone who she knew personally before the experience. She started demanding just really strange stuff, like lobsters weekly! Anyway, hearing her story at the beginning of my journey really made me feel strongly that I preferred a NON-friend for that role.

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the GC process. I'm really sorry that you're in this situation. For what it's worth, doctors advised me really quickly to have a surrogate so I'm wondering if you might not need one if your doc hasn't suggested it...

@MamaBear87: 😳 I know you need tight contracts for this sort of thing, but I hadn’t thought about some of the nuances. Definitely a good family law attorney is the only way you ever make this work. What a nightmare story for your cousin.

Completely anecdotal but my cousin was unable to get pregnant and they had a friend offer to carry for them. They were super excited as it meant they didn't have to wait as long to save up for a surrogate since they had already spent a fortune on ivf.
It started out fine but quickly became a really terrible experience. Despite knowing this woman for years she was just horrible once she was carrying the babies. She went on anti anxiety and depression meds without consulting them, she would call at all hours demanding things. It was not good. Then she insisted on a vaginal delivery (with twins) and greatly endangered both herself and the babies. It completely ruined their friendship. My cousin wishes they had just paid to have a surro.

If you seriously consider it I would make sure you have an ironclad contract as you would if it was someone doing it for money. And make sure you discuss everything you can possibly think of before you decide on anything

So out of no where yesterday a nurse I work with who knows our fertility struggles threw it out there fairly casually (but meant it seriously) that she would be happy to be a gestational carrier for us if we wanted. Somehow it’s not something I’ve ever thought about because our doctor hasn’t recommended it as I was able to get pregnant twice and don’t have any spontaneous miscarriage history.

Does anyone have experience with exploring and/or utilizing a GC? I feel like I should at least run through some of this in my head since she was kind enough to make such a generous offer.

@crazydoglady: You are so kind to check in. This past year has been...a lot. And I haven't been back to Hellobee in a while.

Best news? I am here, alive and I do not have cancer. It is gone. And that's the mindset I am trying to live in. It was all contained in my breasts and they are gone, so it is gone.

2018 consisted of a double mastectomy, expanders, 4 rounds of chemo, implants, and now the rebuilding of my mental health and self esteem. I am still working through the BRCA2 diagnosis. I am headed in next month to talk about removing my ovaries to prevent from hearing "you have ovarian cancer" next. I definitely want to get ahead of that. But to be honest, it's all a lot to deal with. I have been working through the anniversaries...surgery, chemo, hair loss...all of the anniversaries of those days are proving to be just as raw as the event itself. If not more.

But therapy has really been helping. The busyness of life...my boys are 4 and 5 1/2 now and finding time to dwell on heavy things is rare. But I do worry a lot about the fragility of life now.

Thank you all for the kind words and sentiments. This community has been there for me in many of my lowest moments. I am grateful for the Hellobee community.
