Hi there HelloBee followers! My name is Stephanie and I am a graduate student at Duke University. I am conducting a study to better understand factors that impact mental heath during infertility for my dissertation. Please see information below and follow the link if you are interested. Many thanks.

Researchers at Duke University is interested in understanding factors that contribute to stress among women experiencing infertility. The following survey will be used to design interventions to help women better manage the stress and uncertainty that can arise during infertility. If you are interested, please follow the link below to open the survey. You do not need to be currently seeking treatment for infertility to be eligible. The initial survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and there will be a 5 min follow-up survey. Participation is voluntary and confidential. Please feel free to share the link below on other platforms relevant to infertility or with other women who you know are experiencing infertility.
We so appreciate your participation!

Has anyone had successful implantation with adenomyosis?

Long story, but I have a large mass near my ovary. MRI revealed mild adenomyosis too. I'm just thinking about complications and possibilities down the road if I can keep my uterus.

I also wonder if the adenomyosis has been the issue the whole time? I've had many Transvaginal ultrasounds, but never an MRI before now.

I know on HB there is an active group of women who post for support related to infertility, in addition to those who read along silently. I'm posting this study below in case any of y'all are interested in participating! Please wall me if you'd like more information. Thank you!

----

We are researchers at Duke University interested in understanding how personality affects people’s experiences with infertility.

This one-time survey is open to women at least 18 years old who are currently experiencing infertility. You do not need to be currently seeking treatment for infertility to be eligible. The survey should take no more than 20 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous.

After completing the survey, you will have the opportunity to be entered into a free raffle to win a $40 Amazon gift card. Ten winners will each receive a $40 Amazon gift card. The chances of winning will depend on how many people complete the survey. The winners will be contacted via email when the study is complete.

You can use this link to see if you are eligible and complete the survey: http://dukedpn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3IWViObFaM0u2UJ

Feel free to forward this link to others who may be interested in participating. This study has been reviewed by the Duke University IRB (IRB: 2019-0608). If you have questions about this study, please contact Erin Davisson at ekb8 AT duke DOT edu

So out of no where yesterday a nurse I work with who knows our fertility struggles threw it out there fairly casually (but meant it seriously) that she would be happy to be a gestational carrier for us if we wanted. Somehow it’s not something I’ve ever thought about because our doctor hasn’t recommended it as I was able to get pregnant twice and don’t have any spontaneous miscarriage history.

Does anyone have experience with exploring and/or utilizing a GC? I feel like I should at least run through some of this in my head since she was kind enough to make such a generous offer.

Hello Hellobee community! I used to be pretty active on here when I was going through infertility treatments. I've been MIA for a while now. Life, kids, etc.

I know I probably need to find a new support group but this was the first place I thought of when I received some pretty devastating news on Friday. I have breast cancer.

I'm going in tomorrow for an MRI and so I don't know the full plan yet. But I can't suppress my anger right now. I don't think anyone should have to deal with cancer. But I think if you have been through infertility it's a REALLY shitty thing to have to also go through cancer.

I'm mad. I'm sad. I'm scared.

I feel familiar feelings I had when I was in the throes of infertility treatments. That sense of "guarded optimism" so you could handle whatever news came your way after each cycle. It was a rollercoaster. One I was happy to get off of after the birth of our second child.

And now I feel like I'm standing in line for a new roller coaster. One I do not want to get on.

It has been quite a while since I have written a post posing an inquiry in regards to fertility/infertility. Here goes:

Has anyone (you, a friend, family member, neighbor, acquaintance, etc) ever had a laparoscopic procedure for cyst removal (cystectomy) in an ovary and/or the removal of endometriosis (mine was EXTREMELY mild - think stage 1) in the uterus and then went on to successfully become pregnant?

For those of you bees who aren't super familiar with my fertility story, here's some background:

(1) I had been identified as having unexplained secondary infertility (* I have 2 children who were both conceived naturally and both were born via csection) until my RE realized that I ovulate early (think CD 8-12, on average) which could have led to immature ova in past cycles.

(2) We have been trying 3-1/2 years for another baby. DH has "champion sperm" (or atleast that is what he touts after each SA! 🤣) so, I know I am the "weak link."

(3) My AMH was spectacular for my age (39) until testing last month when it took a nose-dive. It fell by .43 ... by all standards, for my age, it is "decent" enough but is on the lower end of adequate.

(4) I have been on fertility meds (3 cycles Clomid and 2 cycles of Follistim with Ovidrel trigger). I easily over-stim (we are talking 20+ follicles) ... which could be a cause for the rapid decrease in AMH and the sudden onset of endo and cysts which are all hormonally induced.

(5) Next step is IVF; however, since I JUST had surgery [for the cyst and endo] 3 days ago (and DH will be gone for a month), the RE would like us to "simply try naturally" until I am approved by the embryology/IVF clinic.
...
THUS, why I posed the aforementioned query.

I really hope SOMEONE [anyone] has a story with a positive outcome which will afford me some hope.

Thank you in advance. 🙏💕

I'm waiting on an appt with a fertility specialist. It's a 6-9 month wait and I'm about 5 months in so I hope it will be soon.

I've been temping since January or so and I'm just so over it. When we finally get in to see the specialist are they going to be annoyed with me if I don't have recent charts to show?

I can tell roughly when I ovulate because I'm a lucky one who gets pain 1-2 days before and my cycles are fairly regular, 28-30 days. I just hate temping so much but will keep doing it if I need to.

I don't want to go to the appt and have them tell me they need charts from the last 3 months and to come back or something.

For those of you going through infertility, have you ever been to a support group or counselor for infertility? My husband and I are seriously considering it, but not sure if it will be weird - we've each been to individual therapy but never a group setting. I'm pretty comfortable talking about infertility but it might be a bit much!

Experiences or advice? Was there anywhere else you turned to, such as church, a particular organization like Resolve, etc.?

We've just gone through so much craziness on this infertility journey, including surgery, and still having a long road ahead is starting to be overwhelming for us.

DH & I will officially be at our 3rd year trying for our blessing #3 with "unexplained secondary infertility" ... which NOW appears to be due to my ovulating immature ovum (after having had a fully monitored cycle this past month).

If we do not conceive naturally this cycle, I will be placed on injectables 💉 (Follistim with Ovidrel trigger) for at least 2 intercourse cycles before we move on to IUI. I have read up on Follistim extensively (pamphlets, studies, web sites, paperwork from the RE's office etc), however, I would like to hear of some REAL experiences from women who have used Follistim.

My inquiries:
• What was your experience? - Was it used for infertility, PCOS, maturing eggs, or as a standard part of your ART?
• Worst side effects?
• Weight gain or water weight?
• Was it effective for you? If so, how many cycles before you conceived? If not, what was resultant and did you change medication?

To anyone who replies - thank you so very much for taking the time to respond.

I guess the question is in the title.

Insurance?
Proximity?
Reviews/reputation?
Cost?
Did you interview/go to different ones?

Is there one you would willingly forgo for other factors... Like choose out of network (higher cost) for someone with better reviews? Or drive further (drastically further) to get in network or a better doctor?

My insurance doesn't cover REs, so that point won't really apply to me, but I want to know if that was a factor at all/how it rated in your priorities.

I'm hoping for advice/ideas/questions to ask my RE next week when at our appointment to regroup after 4 consecutive failed FETs. Many of you already know our story, but just to recap...

As some background, I'm 40 years old and my husband 32. We struggled for a year with infertility in 2015/2016 and quickly moved on to IVF given my age at the time (38). I had never previously been pregnant or had any losses.

Our egg retrieval yielded 10 embryos. We transferred 1 and sent 9 to the freezer. We were not recommended for PGS testing at that time as we hadn't had any losses. We were lucky enough to have success on that 1st fresh transfer and now have an adorable daughter who will be 2 in February.

In Feb 2018, we switched to NT/NP. My doctor had wanted me to wait a full year before getting pregnant again as I had a difficult pregnancy complicated by severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. We did the deed literally one time on March 12 and became pregnant the old fashioned way, something we were never expecting given that we needed IVF to conceive previously.

Unfortunately we later discovered that baby had tremendous health issues and a poor prognosis and opted for a medical termination in May 2018 at 12w6d. It was heartbreaking for us given the struggles we've had trying to conceive. Being gifted with a natural pregnancy, only to have her taken from us before we ever met her.

Unfortunately the D&C was complicated by retained tissue which lead to elevated HCG levels and a period that didn't return until over 16 weeks post-procedure. I underwent a failed round of methotrexate during that process as well, but things ended passing on their own.

Desperately wanting to avoid another medical termination (the hardest thing I've ever endured in my life), we opted to PGS test our 9 frozen embryos. 6 were normal, 3 abnormal. We received that great news in August 2018.

Once my cycle finally returned, we moved forward transfers:
Sept 2018: Natural (unmedicated FET #1, 1 PGS-normal --> Negative
Oct 2018: Natural (unmedicated FET #2, 1 PGS-normal--> Negative
Nov 2018: Took a cycle off to do a saline sonogram to look for scar tissue from the D&C, it was normal
Dec 2018: Medicated FET#3, 1 PGS-normal--> Negative
Jan 2019: Medicated FET#4, 1 PGS-normal --> Testing negative at home at 6dp5dt, beta on 1/17, but presumably negative.

After 4 failed FETs on PGS normal embryos, we meet criteria for "recurrent implantation failure." On our very first transfer that resulted in our daughter, they gave us a 30% chance of success, and it worked. With each PGS-normal transfer, we supposedly have a 70% chance of success on each transfer, yet here we are with 4 failures.

30% x 30% x 30% x 30% = 0.81% chance that we should be where we are.

So, despite still being in our 2WW, I've asked for a sit down appointment with our RE which is scheduled for 1/22. We only have 2 embryos left at this point, and I'm afraid we may need to do another retrieval at this rate if we just keep going and don't try something different.

I'm usually all about evidenced-based approaches, but since we are now beating all of the odds in a bad way and are in rare territory, I'm hoping to enlist suggestions/experiences from others. Not asking for medical advice, just asking for thought on what to discuss with my RE at this appointment.

If you read all of that, thank you so much.

I’m curious if anyone has watched any of the three movies I’ve found on Netflix that cover IVF:
1) Vegas Baby
2) One Last Shot
3) Private Life

I learned of them from one of my IVF Facebook groups. I think #2 was my favorite. Any other thoughts or votes?

I have seen a few people mention getting tested for urea-plasma and being positive, getting treated, then getting pregnant. I brought the test up to my fertility doc today (we just had a failed IUI, 4th one in a year and a half). He said they don't test for it because research doesn't really support any link between it and infertility. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this stance from a doctor, and if you decided to be pushy about it or not. I have unexplained infertility, have tested my thyroid, had an HSG, tested progesterone levels, respond well to Clomid, husband has superb semen analysis every time.....I can't help but wonder if there are other tests that might help explain why we haven't been successful. Thoughts and experiences?

Do you feel like being on some kind of chemical/hormonal birth control caused issues becoming pregnant?

I know that lots of people get pregnant fairly quick after coming off of BC. And some of my "hang up" is probably that my mom always told us girls that adding hormones to your body is going to cause issues getting pregnant. But the fact that I had never been on BC before I had my son, only used NFP method/pull & pray; then had Nexplanon put in at my 6 week check amkes me wonder. I had it in for a year almost exactly, before TTC #2.

Or is this just looking for a reason for why I'm not pregnant yet, and want something tangible to blame?

Hi all. Just had a second mc in 6 months. First was a cp at 5 weeks in Jan. Got pregnant again 3rd cycle after that to discover it was a blighted ovum at the 8week us. At that ultrasound the tech found a possible hydrospalinx on one side.
I have a follow up us next week and then an appointment with my family dr (Canadian). We are trying for our second and have a 2 yo dd who was conceived first cycle trying.

Any tips, suggestions, words of wisdom?? What do I advocate for? Where do I go from here?.

Just as the title says, what did it cost you?

For my RE, it is $700, not including meds. It seems like so much for just the baseline blood work, cd3 scan to check for cysts, and mid cycle follicle scan, but I’m assuming it’s normal? Just curious how it compares to others.

I have noticed that the # of cycles on Clomid (or femera) that a doctor allows seems to vary a lot. So I'm just curious how many cycles your doctor would have allowed and how many it took if you did get pregnant.

My doctor will allow 6 before referring me to a clinic for IUI or potentially IVF. Where as I have a friend that goes to a doctor within my practice, but hers has had her on 10 cycles in a row before she took a break.

So.... I'm not sure who is still here, but we're back on the crazy train. Both of my daughters are IVF pregnancies - I won't bore you all with the details but yeah, nothing has worked for us in a million years of trying to get pregnant EXCEPT for IVF.

We're trying for #3, but we can't afford to do any IVF at the moment. Our youngest is now 16 months old, and we've weaned, so I'm getting prepared to start up Clomid to try and make this stubborn body ovulate.

Anyway... HI.

Any Clomid brilliance I should know about? It's been nearly 6 years since I went on it last time!

I wasn't sure of tbe best catergory to post this, so im open to suggestions of other ones but in the meantime, I could use some encouragement.

We recently found out that the possibility of expanding our family isn’t looking promising. I have a low AMH (0.29) and a high FSH (14.9) and on CD1 ultrasound, we only saw 2 eggs 😢

We have a beautiful daughter who was a miracle in itself but we desperately wanted one more (I m/c in Dec 2017).

I am going to do Clomid this cycle w/ timed intercourse before trying an IUI, but I'm pretty sure we are out.

How did you accept this? I’m tearful writing this b/c while I cant wait to watch my daughter grow, I’m not ready to let her.

Did you try infertility treatments? (IVF isn’t an option for us). Counseling? Just suck it up and move on?

Thanks!!

I had my annual well woman check today, and spoke to my doctor about Clomid next month (took a month off because of work stuff). This will be my 4th round, and I will be doing 100 instead of 50. Are the side effects any worse the higher the dose, or are you dealing with the same rodeo?

I've been wanting to see if we could get another IUI thread started, since the last one was from a couple years back.

Who's with me!?

How long have you been TTC?
Where are you in your IUI cycle?
How many IUIs will this be?
Diagnosis?
Medications?
Anything to add?

How long have you been TTC? 19 months
Where are you in your IUI cycle? AF showed today. Baseline is 1/22, Monday.
How many IUIs will this be? #2
Diagnosis? PCOS, LPD, Hypothyroid and MFI
Medications? 2.5mg Letrozole, Ovidrel and Progesterone suppositories
Anything to add? Really hoping this is it. We have decided to try a total of 3 IUIs then move onto IVF if no bfp. This terrifies me.
