@Mae: Ya, when we moved to 2 naps, his second nap became super long (and awesome!)...it was so nice.

But of course within the span of a few days, everything has changed again! He's now sleeping great at night (knock on wood). I haven't had to feed him at all in the night and he's slept about 12 hours the last 3 nights. BUT I do still have to replace his paci a few times a night. His naps are kind of crappy now though. The morning one is ok...since it's usually still out in the stroller/car seat somewhere. But the afternoon one has gotten way shorter. About an hour and a half now? And he wakes up all of a sudden, and screams his head off. I'm wondering if it's the solids again, since we are doing them at lunch now. He used to wake up gradually and happy from his naps. But now he can't be soothed back to sleep at all. So I'm not sure if he's just had enough sleep because he's sleeping longer at night, or if his tummy is bothering him or something. Maybe I will cut out solids completely for a few days and see what happens.

@anandam: No sleep training here...yet. I would really like to sleep train to get rid of the paci (is that still considered sleep training?) but i'm way too scared to do it because I know it will keep DD awake all night if he's up screaming. But to fall asleep we haven't had to sleep train...the paci is usually enough, luckily. And if he's really tired, he can fall asleep without it.

@anandam: we didn't sleep train. He falls asleep either through rocking, the stroller, the bottle, me holding him, or randomly by himself. My mom still has to hold him for some naps. She always tries to put him in the crib for naps but he wakes up. So she holds him, puts him in the rnp, or lays him next to her on the sofa.

@cookie_dough: So cute and messy! :) Did you guys sleep train or anything? I'm jealous of your long unassisted naps. We're still rocking to sleep and only getting 45 minutes... He seems well rested, but still, I wonder if it should be different.

@Mae: We still don't really have a schedule... and just spent two weeks with ILs who are 2 time zones West of us, and had the clock change, so we're all over the place. I kept a record the last few days and here's a basic trend:

7 or 8a = wake up
9 or 10a = nap #1
1 or 2p = nap #2
5ish = nap #3
8ish = sometimes a catnap?
9 or 10ish = bedtime

I offer to nurse before/after most naps, and in between wherever he seems to want it (nuzzling in or grabbing my shirt), including throughout the night. Naps are still usually about 45min, but are sometimes getting longer, so we're slowly consolidating from 4 to 3 naps, it seems. We're just starting to try to get him in the crib (at our bedside) for more nighttime sleep...I miss having my own space!

@MRSHONEYBEAR: Missed you, sorry! Love Juniper! I wanted that name if we'd had a girl :) She's such a smiler and adorable with those raccoons in that chair. Great photo. Please share your tips for baby proofing and managing a crawler! I'm not rushing to get there at all... our apartment is a danger zone at every turn.

@twodoghouse: They are so sweet and such growers! Is Blake's hair coming in red? Is that a surprise? We're all kind of hoping our boy's hair comes in red, but nobody in the family is a redhead, so I'm not sure where we got that idea.

@Mamasig: Our guy does the fake cough thing, too! So funny. Where do they come up with this stuff?

@Mae: Based purely on looks, I think she's really a Fiona more than a Penelope :) Are you feeling her name now? And it's funny she's starting to love the dog! Our guy is noticing the cat more and more, and she's been snuggling up to him a little, too, even though he pulls her hair and ears. I'm so glad they don't just fear each other!

Our update: DH and I are weird and private about name/photo stuff, so sorry about that... but here's the rest -
Birth date: 5/21 so 6 months today!
Weight: 19lb 15oz, 28in long
Eating: We're still on exclusively breastmilk... thinking we'll save solids for Thanksgiving with the family next week! But he's starting to seem ready, so I'm excited.
Teeth: None yet! I keep thinking they MUST be on their way but then all the symptoms go away. So we'll see...
Sleep: Eh. We still rock him to sleep for all naps and share the bed at night, nursing around the clock. I'll post our "schedule" at the other board.
Halloween Costumes: We were traveling all day (with baby and cat in tow) so by trick-or-treat time, we were exhausted and just put an animal ears cap on him and answered the door for kids at my MIL's house.
Any new milestones/fun things: He sits up pretty well and once got himself into sitting position from his belly when I turned for a second... not sure how! He's been scooting himself backwards for a while, and rocking on hands and knees for about a month. He loves the new view from the high chair and shopping cart! And seems to prefer blondes (met his first one last week and was soooo excited and would not stop sucking her face!) :silly:

We were on 4 naps until 2 weeks ago when I sort if pushed her into a 3 nap schedule and she's been doing so well and fighting her last nap now I almost wonder if she's ready to move to 2?

I finally have a few minutes on the computer! Our daily schedule looks a little like this:

6h30 (ish): wake up for the day
If DH gets up with him, he usually has a bottle right away. If I get up with them, I try and hold off until a bit later (around 7h30).
Then our mornings really vary. He usually has a nap around 8h30/9h00 and he sleeps until 10h30 at the latest (yes...I wake him up...I'm terrible!) But we are often out and about, so he will nap in his car seat and might get two short naps rather than one long one, depending on what we are doing.
10h45ish: 2nd bottle (he usually gets this when we are out somewhere)
11h30/12h00: solids. We have so far only offered oat cereal, and I have mixed in some prunes and some sweet potato as well. He's also had a few mum mums. He loves to eat! HUGE difference compared to DD who never opened her mouth until she was well over a year old.
1h00: bottle
1h15ish: nap time
I let him sleep as long as he wants, but he usually wakes up around 3h30...sometimes he sleeps till 4h00.
5h00: bottle
7h30: bottle
7h45/8h00: bed

It was really nice when he dropped the third nap...for some reason I always found it tough to get that third nap in!

We don't really have a bedtime routine other than changing into pyjamas, having a bottle on the couch, and then I bring him up to his crib and lay him down. He can usually fall asleep on his own. For naptimes he has a harder time falling asleep on his own, so he often gets his pacifier.

We were previously giving solids at dinner time instead of lunch...and his sleep got terrible. Since switching to lunch time, his sleep seems to have improved! I do have to get up a few times to put his paci in (he can fall asleep without it, but then does wake up looking for it in the middle of the night). I still do one night feed around 3/4 a.m. but he only drinks 2 -3 oz. He is pretty restless between 4 and 5h30 though, so I'm up a few times in that timeframe putting his paci back in, hoping he's not up for the day!!

Other than that, he has his two bottom teeth, and is just starting to sit up on his own (he's pretty steady, but I still sit right behind him because he does on occasion fling himself backwards). We have our 6 month appointment next week so I will know our updated weight/height then. He's so so tall, I get comments every day. He's pretty skinny though, so not sure what his weight will be!

And because I haven't posted a pic in a while...here he is eating his lunch today :-)

@Mae: So LO doesn't really have a set schedule but his day is something like this.

Before daylight savings time, he was waking up from 7-8. Lately it's been 6-7, but the the past two days it was 7:15, so hopefully it's going back to his old time.

He drinks his 1st bottle at around 7:30. I leave for work at 7:15, so after that I'm not totally sure and our weekends are usually just go with the flow.

My mom feeds his oatmeal at around 8:15 to 8:30. I think she gives him another bottle around 9 or so for him to take a nap. This is typically a shorter nap.

No idea after this. I just know he eats about every 3 hours and usually takes two more naps.

When I get home at 5, he usually has just finished a bottle and maybe is taking a nap. When he wakes up from his nap or around 5:30 if he didn't fall asleep, I give him veggies/fruit. Then around 6:30 to 6:45, he gets a bath. After that he gets another bottle, and is usually out for the night around 7:30. If he took a later nap (like today), he doesn't fall asleep until later (today was around 8:45). Then he's out until the morning.

@cheesetomywhine: poor guy! Hope everything is ok with the cyst

@Mae: G's ped seems to think that babies seem to settle onto their growth curve around 6 months and at this point a lot of size is genetics. Funny because we were so worried with W but then we compared him to DH's baby records and they gained like the exact same amount of weight over the first year.

Our day normally looks something like this:

5-6 am G wakes up and nurses. Sometimes goes back to sleep but normally hangs out until DH showers and goes downstairs with both boys.
8am: DH leaves for work and G nurses then goes down for his nap. He'll nap anywhere from 30 min to 1.5 hours. If he takes a short nap then I strap him in the ergo and we go for a walk so he can sleep longer.
11 am: Nurse again but usually just very briefly.
11:30am: W's lunchtime and sometimes G will get a taste of something, like banana or avocado.
12-1pm: put G down for another nap and get W down for his nap. G usually only naps for 30 min max before he's up looking for some one on one time. We usually play and have a long nurse/nap session on the couch until W wakes up.
5-6pm: nurse again and then pump a little bit to make cereal. We eat dinner around 6, a mix of puree and cereal plus some sweet potato or what we're having if it's ok for him.
7pm: Bedtime and maybe a bath. Nurse to sleep.
8pm: He is awake already so back up I go to get him back to sleep. Usually involves the other boob
9pm: Up again so I give up and take him to bed with me.
12-5am: Wakes up to nurse at least once or twice and for pacifier a few times.

Eta - sometimes we get a short late afternoon nap (from like 4:30-5) depending on the mid-day one and if not we might do a slightly earlier bedtime.

@Mae: she is doing so much better!

$tephen's schedule is:
7 up and nurse
8-10 nap
10- nurse
11/11:15-12:30ish- nap
12:30ish- nurse (may make this BLW and nurse afterwards though)
1:30-3:30- nap
3:30- nurse
4:30-5/5:30- nap
5:30- BLW supper
6:30- nurse, Jamie's, family story
6:50- bed

He was down to the 15% at his check up based on his prior curve. I'm not worried since he does so well with eating. He has been scooting for ages and just started crawling so he is a busy boy lol. He has a little (benign) cyst on the side of his forehead though so he has to go see a pediatric plastic surgeon :(

@twodoghouse: It is seriously so amazing that your littles have gained so much!! I struggle a little with not worrying about Fiona because she was at 75% for weight when she was 1 an 2 months (before eating issues) and then fell to 58% at 4 months and now 44% at 6 months. And her length is still 75% (was 75/75 at 1 and 2 months). It does seem sort of crazy to me how little she eats some days, and it's hard not to stress when she does poorly with a bottle bc she usually only has 4. But tons of trial and error have showed that when I push to give her 5+ bottles she eats even less! With 4 bottles she seems to get really hungry an eat more. Usually. But sometimes she'll eat like 2 oz an I'm like... really kid you haven't eaten in 4 hrs an you only want 2oz?!

But, the doc is happy with her weight, and especially with the progress we're making in her behaviors (we've moved from total food refusal, to eating willingly but only swaddled right before a nap if she was tired but not too tired only in our bedroom with fan and white noise on and only if I was feeding her, to (now) eating based on time/hunger rather than tiredness and eating without being swaddled and eating anywhere in our home and taking at least one (sometimes two!) bottles/day from DH. So there is big behavioral progress at least, even on the days she only eats 21 or 22 oz!

@Mae: I knowwww! They eat a ton per day too. Sometimes Blake gets to 30 oz of (high calorie) formula per day + nursing. No wonder he's gained 12 lbs since birth! I think eating frequently is really good for his reflux and helps minimize spit up, but I wish we could go longer between feedings!

@Mae: Our schedule is still awake-time based, not clock based, but here's a rough outline of what it's been lately.

5:00 on the dot they are AWAKE. Wtf? Sometimes we can get them back down until 6ish, but not always. I usually nurse one then the other for as long as I can until they both are like super awake and then we go downstairs. Blake gets his medicine. Both get 2 oz bottles and nurse again.

1.5 hrs after wake up - 4 oz bottles and nurse to sleep for nap 1. This nap is starting to improve and they usually sleep an hour before starting crying. As long as it's only one baby crying I can keep the nap going to 2 hrs by nursing or rocking. After waking, Blake will take a bottle and nurse.

1 hr after nap wake up Alice might take a 4 oz bottle. Sometime give Blake 2 oz bottle here too. Both nurse and lately we've been trying to get solids in here too.

2 hr after nap wake up Alice gets 2 or 4 oz bottle, Blake gets 4 oz bottle. Both nurse to sleep. Nap lasts between 45 min and 2 hrs. (Different everyday) I isually end up nursing one or both of them back to sleep mid nap. When they wake Blake takes 4 oz bottle. Alice might take a bottle?

1 hr after nap Alice takes 4 oz bottle. Both nurse.

2 hr after nap wake up they both get 4 oz bottles and nurse. I try for a nap here but they've been rejecting it.

3 hr after nap wake up they usually go down for a cat nap (nurse to sleep). Only sleep for 20-40 minutes. Nurse or bottles when they wake up.

1-2 hr after wake up (depending on what time it is) they get bath, books, bottles, nurse then down for the night. Lately they've been up between 3-5 times each in the night. I generally nurse them and Blake sometimes eats a couple bottles (2 oz) in the night).

ETA: I've really been wanting to do a day in the life log of one of our days at 6 months. I already can't remember what the newborn days were like! Maybe this post will be my motivation!

Resurrecting the defunct thread!! I'd love to hear what you guys' schedules are currently like. Over the last few weeks we finally have one but it still feels a bit rushed. Our typical day:

6-6:30am: Fia gets up and my husband takes her downstairs

7:30am: First bottle (6.75 oz)

8am-10am: I take her up for her first nap. I'm still holding her for all naps, but by doing that she generally will nap for 2+ hrs.

10am: Best time for solids I think. But some days we have errands to run at this point and then I don't know when to do solids.

11:30am: 2nd bottle (6-8 oz). If she seems really tired sometimes I'll let her take a 15 min catnap at this point, otherwise we power through.

1-3pm: 2nd nap (I hold her again)

3:30pm- 3rd bottle (6-8 oz)

5-6:30pm- 3rd nap (I hold her again)

7:30pm- bed time (I know it is weird to have her last nap so close to bed, but if she is up more than 1 hr before we start bedtime she melts down and is impossible to get to sleep. she's weird.) Bath e/o night. Bottle, books, song, bed. We just started sleep training last night so I don't have to rock her to sleep and hold her all night or cosleep. So far so good, but its only been one night :) (but she did sleep in her crib all night and i never once picked her up after 8pm last night!!!)

She hasn't wanted to eat MOTN since 2 mo so that isn't an issue. Overnights are still a work in progress. Hence sleep training.

So fun! Alice, Blake, Leo and Fiona are absolute darlings! I haven't been on HB much at all since going back to work and I've honestly missed the community and especially you great May 2014 Mamas! I came back hoping the thread was alive and so happy to see these updates. As for us, Juniper is just a dream. She is a happy, healthy and hilarious little girl. I feel like I've won the lottery that I get to be her mom.

Name: Juniper
Birth date: May 1st
Weight: 6mo appt last week: 16.9lbs
Eating: just started solids and we're attempting baby led weaning. She's tried (more like smooshed all over her face & body) avocado, banana and sweet potato. Sweet potato was the most successful. I'm afraid to admit we skipped a few days bc she just gets so darn messy and a few nights we didn't have the time to feed and bathe her so we just skipped to bottles. Oh well, she's full and happy!
Teeth: nope
Sleep: through the night, usually 8:30pm-about 7am
Halloween Costumes: baby bear!
Any new milestones/fun things: this girl is a mover and a shaker! She started crawling at 5 months and her latest stunt is attempting to stand. I'd really like her to slow down because I feel like this precious time is slipping through my fingers. Her only major dislike is having her fave wiped, otherwise you can usually find her smiling, drooling and trying to befriend the cat.

Great job at making it this far with your beautiful babies, May Mamas!

@twodoghouse: they are so cute! And I'm so so impressed you are still BF!

@Mamasig: such a big boy! And omg sooo jealous of your nights. Seriously. So jealous. lol

Name: Fiona June

Birth date: 5/13

Weight: She was 14.5 at her 4 month appointment, 6 month appointment is next week. I'm guessing around 17 lbs?

Eating: So I'm sure you all recall all our eating drama--- things are still not EASY per se, but in the last 2 weeks in particular we have made amazing strides. 3 weeks ago Fia refused to eat for 8 hours because I wasn't home to feed her (wouldn't eat for DH or my mom at all). She would also only eat before naps, only in our bedroom, and only when she was swaddled or in her merlin suit. In the last few weeks we've had some huge changes so now she will eat sort of whenever she's hungry (as long as it isn't too soon after she wakes), she will eat in 4 rooms of our home rather than just 1, and she will eat for my husband the first bottle of the day. She also took 3 bottles from my mom in the last week. These are HUGE improvements. Like huge major happiness for me :) It is still inconsistent and she still isn't huge on eating from DH during the day so I can't be gone during meal time-- but I can see a future in which maybe I could. We also started solids with her 2 weeks ago. She's had avocado fingers (liked), sweet potato "fries" (hated), cooked carrot fingers (disliked), oatmeal/mashed banana (liked it and fed herself with a spoon!), and steamed pears wedges with cinnamon (loved loved).

Teeth: none and none coming that I can see. a-ok with me!

Sleep: Let's look at the positive. She usually puts herself to sleep with maybe 2-3 checks to replace her paci. She usually sleeps about 8:30-6:30. But, she usually has 2-3 wake ups before 4:30 am and then most days I have to rock her from 4:30 until 6:30 to keep her sleeping. Naps are good (3 or 4 per day)... but only if I let her sleep on me. Refuses to sleep in her bed at all. Oh and speaking of, we finally moved her into her bedroom and crib this past weekend! She is doing great!

Halloween Costumes: mouse

Any new milestones/fun things: She rolls back to belly fantastically, and CAN roll belly to back but doesn't know she can. She regularly gets stuck on her stomach and cries, but then a few times/day she accidentally rolls belly to back and looks confused haha. She can sit/balance for a few seconds but then she usually throws herself dramatically backwards. So we only try this on the couch or with her back to my stomach haha.

Here's one of my favs I took of her at 5 mo. She was looking at our dog, aka her most favoritest being to ever be.

I can't believe it's been six months!!!
Name: Leo
Birth date: 5-12-14
Weight: He was 20 pounds and change at his 4 month appointment. I'm thinking maybe 24 pounds now? We go for his check up next week. He fits perfect in 6-12 or 12 mo sizes so I've been buying him 18 month now.
Eating: He has about 6-7 bottles a day averaging six ounces each (I think. I'm at work so my mom watches him). He eats oatmeal in the morning and purees in the evening (the stage 2 size).
Teeth: None, but I see a little bit of white peeking on the bottom. It's been like this for a while.
Sleep: Falls asleep for the night between 7-8 and sleeps all the way through until around 7. No nap schedule. He just randomly sleeps whenever - usually 2 or 3 naps ranging from little cat naps to a couple hours.
Halloween Costumes: Superman and big brother was Batman
Any new milestones/fun things: No rolling or sitting yet and he really has no interest in doing either. He fake coughs after he really coughs which I think is so funny. He loves bath time, kisses, and when you sing to him. He is starting to "play" with his big brother which is the best thing in the world to see! This little guy is the sweetest little angel and he is completely spoiling me by being such a good baby.

I'll post a pic from my phone in a bit. Excited to hear how the other babies are doing!

Name: Alice and Blake
Birth date: May 3
Weight: Not sure exactly. Around 17-18 lbs I'd guess. Their 6 month appt is next week and we'll find out for sure then.
Eating: Solids are iffy for them. They've tried squash and pears so far. They love the squash but it causes major poop problems/discomfort in the middle of the night - especially for Blake. Still breastfeeding although they take a lot of formula each day too. Trying to keep BFing through cold/flu season at least, as long as my supply can hold out.
Teeth: Blake's seem to be in progress. Today in particular he is GROUCHY and in a lot of pain. Poor baby. Alice doesn't seem to have any imminently.
Sleep: Hit or miss. We sleep trained but it hasn't really stuck yet. It doesn't help that we often spend the weekends at my ILs farm and it throws off the routine. We tried to move up bedtime but they do so much better going to sleep around 8:30. If we get two wake ups per baby it's a good night. Last night Alice woke up twice and Blake woke up 5 times. Naps are chaos. Usually we get four 45 minute naps with an occasional long nap (1.5 hr+) thrown in.
Halloween Costumes: Penguins!
Any new milestones/fun things: We can't y keep them anywhere for more than a few seconds - they just roll away! They are both balancing for a few seconds when we put them in the sitting position. Alice is doing this little earthworm scoot thing that is pretty adorable. Blake's been growing hair! That's a milestone, right?
