Our Savers tends to have lots of special occasion dresses (moreso than consignment shops around here). As someone else mentioned, they tend to be in pretty good condition as they aren't usually worn as much.

I have good luck at our kids consignment store for occasion/slightly nicer dresses. The tend to not be worn as much so most of them are in great condition. I look for Boden, Tea, Hanna Andersson, crewcuts, and Janie and Jack the most - because I love them but won't pay full price. And sometimes I find brands I have never heard of that work well.

I agree that Target can be great but I find it hit or miss in my DD's current size. I've had luck at Nordstrom Rack, both in store and online. Loved H&M for a long time but their clothes don't seem to fit my DD well anymore.

My Grandma finds the cutest Easter and Christmas dresses for my daughter from Walmart and Target. She's a bargain hunter and goes after the holidays and buys for the following year for us. I'm always shocked at the cute stuff she finds. Might be worth a shot?

Otherwise we always had cute dresses for kids when I worked at JCPenney back in the day. It's been several years, but might be work a look too.

@PinkElephant: You clearly feel my pain! 😆 She does wear leggings and also has jeans that fit. She just loves joggers in the winter, but that’s a good reminder on the fleece lined tights! I’ll check out the Hanna skinny fit too. Years ago I bought her a pair of Hanna capris which were huge on her, but they were the regular fit.

@LemonJack: I feel your pain. My 9yr old is 4'5" and just hit 50 lbs. I used to just let her size waaaay down for her age (and still do in the summer), but as she's gotten taller and leggier, I can't go much smaller than a 7-8 or she just looks silly with inches of ankle hanging out.

Will your DD wear leggings? The Hanna slim leggings are amazing for super skinny girls - we can make a 120 (6-7) or 130 (8) work in those. They run very long as well as slim.

Also...if they don't need to be TRUE joggers, we've worn Cat & Jack fleece lined leggings as joggers/sweatpants since they fit her skinny frame much looser. I thought they'd have a saggy diaper-butt look, but they're actually pretty cute.

I have a VERY skinny 9 year old who struggles to find any bottoms that are long enough and fit in the waist. Justice joggers aren't too bad (we buy them from TJ Maxx/Marshalls), but they tend to only come in really bright styles (like dip dye/tie dye). She wears an 8 and they are loose at the waist, but don't totally fall off - a 7 would be a better fit, but that size is too short. Maybe try a 6 for your 7 year old?

I have a petite/skinny 7 year old and am having the hardest time finding her joggers and/or sweats for this winter. Every pair I find is huge in the waist. The best fitting ones I’ve found so far were at the Gap outlet…but even those are big. Where should I be looking?!

@PinkElephant: I agree that the fit isn't perfect but the price is great, and I don't care if they get destroyed at school. My DD is 6 but she is between 52-53 inches and around 56 pounds - the 8s are a good length right now but probably won't get through the whole winter, which makes this price even better.

@Anagram: Thank you! Those look REALLY cute on her - we'll go give them a try. DD1 has literally no rear end, but in the 7 it might work!

@catgirl: Thank you! We did try a version of the pull-on skinny jeggings in 8 Slim and DD1 is pleased with how they look (I think they're saggy in the butt from a perspective of how I want my jeans to fit ME, but won't be telling her that). At the $8 price point, if she's satisfied, I'm satisfied! :) Now it's just a matter of finding more colors in stock in Slim. I wish they'd produce more extended sizing options for kids!

We have been buying these target ones the past two or three years and DD loves them. It looks like lots of sizes are out of stock online, but our store has more. And last year the online stock was back up in early fall. They do come in a slim (when in stock) that might work for your DD.

@PinkElephant: I actually just got some at Old Navy for my oldest DD—they fit PERFECTLY, and my DD has similar measurements. She tried on several pair there and all were either way too big, or we tried a smaller size and they’d fit in the waist but be too short.

The winners were the Ballerina 360 stretch jeggings. Can’t remember if they were the regular or super high waist. Give those a try—they are literally the only (non adjustable waist) pants that have worked for her that weren’t just leggings.

Help! My super skinny nine year old daughter is into dressing a bit more like a "tween" these days, and needs some skinny jeans (or jeggings) for school. Does anyone have brand and style suggestions for us?

Hanna Andersson slim leggings had been our solution the past few years, but she wants something she can wear with more adult looking blouses (i.e., with pockets on the back).

For reference she's about 48 lbs and 52 inches - basically a maximum size 5T or 6 waist, but a size 8 length, with no rear or thighs to fill things out. The fact that wide leg and "mom jeans" are being pushed style-wise, even for kids, totally does not help! Although I guess it will make it less obvious that her jeans are not intentionally loose? I don't know...I am pretty devoted to skinny jeans myself and am having trouble getting on board this fashion train. It reminds me too much of middle school!
