So I am almost the least tech savvy person ever - I still use and love my countertop cd player in the kitchen (although I do bluetooth music to it from my phone).

DD loves to switch out cds (my collection from the 90's & 2000's  ).

For Christmas I'm debating between getting her own cd player (with bonus microphone), or an Amazon Echo.

Which would you choose? Who loves the Echo? We do have Prime, but not Amazon music so I'm concerned about how much music she could actually play. She is in speech still so not sure how well Echo will understand her voice commands.

What can she do on the Echo? It would obviously be our first in the house so I'm clueless as to capabilities.

We'll be doing a lot of driving this week so I'm looking for recommendations for podcasts or audiobooks to listen to with DH. I have some kid ear friendly stuff queued up but realistically (& hopefully) they'll be completely absorbed in their tablets most of the time so it doesn't need to be family friendly.

Any recommendations?

Any good podcast recommendations you've enjoyed lately? DH and I also like to listen to true crime stories. We'll be in the car for 7 hours this week and would like to find something we can both listen to. DH likes Joe Rogan. He's ok, but I find his podcasts drag a bit for me.

Other podcasts I like:
Sara's Bookshelves Live
What should I read next
From the Front Porch (more so when she had a cohost).
Sorta Awesome
Happier with Gretchen Rubin

Hey all,
I’m looking for suggestions for adult podcasts to listen to that are still ok for preschool ears. Something that doesn’t require my full attention. Do these exist? I see a lot of playing in my future and honestly, I get very bored. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m thinking if I have something to listen to, it might actually help me to engage better when playing “puppy and the mama” for the 3rd straight hour. Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm considering upgrading my music streaming and looking for recommendations. Currently I stream the free Pandora at work, listen to the radio in the car (when I'm not listening to an audiobook), and nothing at home. DH has a Google Play music subscription ($9.99/month I think) so I ask him to turn things on for me occasionally but I want more music in my life. We have Sonos speakers in the kitchen and Google home mini in some other rooms.

Ideally I'd like something with a censored lyric or family station options since my kids sing along.

What do you like?

Hi everybody!

I recently started a podcast with my sister and brother (which has been SO much fun), and I thought I'd pop in here and share it with you guys. It's called BME: The Struggle Is Real. You can find it on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

We cover a range of topics but Episode 105 is about parenting and tomorrow's episode is all about kids and technology.
Check it out if you feel so inclined!
Thanks,

Good Morning!

I need your help ladies. Here is my conundrum: I want to expose my baby to phonemes from as many different languages as possible in the first 6 mo. (Studies have shown that exposure to a multitude of phonemes in early infancy contribute to their ability to make those sounds properly if they ever study the language later on in life.)

However, I fear over-stimulation may trigger issues in sleep, behavior, or cause a dependency on stimulation and an intolerance for silence.

I know very little about this topic, so please explain your answer in the comments below

What can you guys tell me about an iPod

My 9 yr old asked for an iPhone so he could listen to music - So I looked into the iPod a little

Do you need a data plan?
Do you download and own the music?
If you're at home on wifi can you access the internet?
32GB or 128GB? Seems odd there isnt something in between -
Are these normally a Black Friday deal?

Anything else I should know?

I just found this podcast, and I love it ... It explores parenting, and all of the wonderful, awkward, hard, amazing moments that come along with it. I also like that it dives into topics like ttc, infertility, mc, and other tough topics (not triggering, as much as a look at how to heal or console a friend).

OK, help me out mamas... when I was a kid my mom had an inexpensive cassette player in my room and every night she'd play a tape for me as I fell asleep. The tapes were just songs and books on tape that she'd check out from the local library. What is today's equivalent of that??? Technology was supposed to make life easier, but I don't feel like sticking the expensive Bose wireless player in my son's room and monkeying around with trying to find audio tracks on Spotify or iTunes. I'm nostalgic for the days when you could just pop in a tape and hit play. I'd love any suggestions for a simple nighttime music/audio routine! Anyone? :)

I like how he sings nursery rhymes and songs for really little kids and plays them simply with a guitar or banjo and minimal instruments.

Been in a bad mood lately, so I put on a sad playlist... I like to be all melodramatic with my music sometimes. I posted about it a while ago, and got some great recommendations for more sad songs!

My favorite sad song for years has been Dance with my Father! And gah, all the home videos just kill me.

Cat in the Cradle is also super sad to me:

But my all-time favorite sad song is Adele's Someone Like You:

Two days ago, I woke up with the song "California Dreamin'" playing non-stop in my head! I don't even really like that song. I tried to fight it but it kept playing on repeat in my head... so I finally gave in and found it on YouTube. Played it twice and the song got un-stuck from my head!

The exact same thing happened yesterday with Dangerous by Roxette. For whatever reason, I've been getting 1-2 songs stuck in my head a day lately!

Do you get songs stuck in your head? What are some recent songs you've had on repeat?

Ira Glass & team are at it again! I am absolutely loving the new Serial podcast. Anyone else listening? Of course, I binge listened to all 3 episodes yesterday.

For those of you who like This American Life, you will likely love Serial. The description from the site: "Serial is a podcast where we unfold one nonfiction story, week by week, over the course of a season. We'll stay with each story for as long as it takes to get to the bottom of it."

Right now, they are working through a murder from 1999 ... the man convicted maintains his innocence. With no real evidence, other than a testimony from a witness, I'm really interested to see how it turns out.

Check your Ticketmaster account if you purchased tickets between 1999 and 2013.

There was a class action lawsuit regarding their fees and anyone affected was given a voucher good for a set of tickets to an eligible event.

Log into your account, click '[your name]'s account' and click on active vouchers to see what you have.
I got two sets of tickets. Oh, the voucher is good until 2020.

Here is more details on it. http://concerts.livenation.com/microsite/settlement\

How many vouchers did you have?

It'll probably be forever before I can actually see a live performance, but until then, I am completely smitten with the soundtrack. It's been on repeat a lot lately! Even my 5-year-old DD loves it (I'm a little torn about the appropriateness given the explicit lyrics, but that's another post) because we have been reading a book about Lafayette, and she has read children's biographies of some of the other "characters" and we've been to some of the places mentioned in the lyrics. Every aspect is so well done, in my opinion. Are you a fan? Have you or will you see it live? Any favorite songs?
