So - I just found out that Sept 1 my twins (4yo) will no longer nap at school.

I knew this day was coming...and pre-covid I figured we would lose nap time at the beginning of summer when they did a half day summer camp program for the month of july.....

So I get completely that I am on borrowed time.

I don't have any illusion that my kids will sit quietly in their room for an hour to give me any sort of sanity break during the day.

Any tips for dropping naps without utilizing quiet time?

Sanity of mom wise?
Sanity of kid wise?

We are at 1.5 hour naps...I'm thinking next week I'll get them down to 1 hour....

(We are home until 9/1)

So sad. I love naptime.

I'm going to soak up the snuggles when I wake them up.

The end of an era :( :( :( :(

My almost 2 year old never naps in a stroller or car seat and it really annoys me! She napped in her car seat when she was little (under 1 year) but now never does even if it’s a long ride at nap time. Stroller naps have never happened in her life! I’m so jealous when I see toddlers napping in strollers while their parents hang out! She sleeps well at home. Anyway, really just looking to see if we are the only ones. I feel like it’s probably too late to train her to sleep in a stroller. :bummed:

DS2 is coming up on 13 months and not a great sleeper. He started daycare 3 weeks ago and night sleep got worse. The last few days he’s been having great naps at daycare. I asked their secret and the put a stuffy on his back and then remove it once’s hes sleeping. If around the hour mark he starts stirring they put it back on and he goes back to sleep.

I am comfortable with this since they are supervising the babies sleeping.

Would you try something like this at home for nighttime sleep?

My son is 10 months old and cannot fall asleep being held. He does most his naps in his crib, and can sleep in his car seat. I'm not sure about the stroller, he isn't it it enough to fall asleep in. We were at a play group yesterday, and I knew it was pushing his nap time, but I figured he'd be distracted enough and want to play to make it to the end, but he just lost it, and no matter what I did he wouldn't fall asleep on me, so we ended up leaving early and he passed out within 2 minutes of hitting his car seat. I thought by now he'd be on a solid 2 nap schedule, but he's still on 2-3 so I'm kinda bummed that we may be pretty much hotel bound on our trip in 2 weeks cause of napping. Any tips for napping on the go? Or do we just have to suck it up, work around his naps, and stay close so we can go back and nap.

I seem to have forgotten everything from the first two babies... or N is extremely different. She seems like she's working her way quickly toward one nap per day. She's lasting longer in the morning and getting harder to put down for her afternoon nap. And sometimes her afternoon nap is late enough that bedtime takes forever. She's 11 months. This seems super early, but our other two had so much trauma as infants, so maybe they were unusual because of that? When did your kids switch? How long was it before they were in a good one nap schedule?

My 20 month old has been going to daycare full time since 12 weeks old. His naps were always shorter in the infant room then at home which is to be expected. In September he moved from the infant room to the toddler room. I thought naps would have gotten better because the entire classroom naps at the same time. Naps have actually gotten worse. Most days he naps for 30-45 minutes all day. I have given it a good month to see if it would get any better. He is a miserable mess at night. I do everything I can to get him fed, bathed and into bed as quickly as possible which is disappointing to me because I would actually like to spend time with him. This also gives me major mom guilt as I know if I was home he would be taking good naps.

Anyone experience this and it actually got better or should we just expect this to continue.

I wrack my brain endlessly over baby sleep. I feel like I've tried everything, and I don't know if that is just the main things that has failed me that, because we've tried it all, there has been lacking consistency over time.

We hired a coach previously, done sleep training, and had some success, but at the end of the day, we just haven't been able to get my son's naps to a solid place. Learning to stand in the crib was kind of the end of it all. Once he's standing, there is no going back.

My son is 11 months.

I've started to notice that my son does pretty well with naps on a more of a weekly cycle. Some days he gets 2.5-3 hours, and then the rest of the week he is having 30-35 minute naps, sometimes a 1 hour for one and then a 30 minute for the next, so we're getting under 2 hours those days.

He's always a happy guy, but just has SO. MUCH. ENERGY.

We've tried stretching him longer, and tried putting him down sooner, but it's just getting him to shut off and slow down is nearly impossible at times, and when we've built up good nap pressure that he goes to sleep more quickly, he still has a short nap.

At night he's still not STTN either. I've never been a great sleeper, and my mom says he's the same as I was when I was younger. And I'm less concerned about this because he's still getting a solid amount of sleep overnight.

I know this is a tough developmental age for sleep, he's learning to walk, he's teething, he's growing leaps and bounds... and I know this too shall pass, but I can't get past the mom guilt that he just struggles to get to a "good" nap length. Once he's up there is NO getting him back down unless I nurse him, but I'm only with him for 6 naps a week (3 days, and the days I can fill up his sleep tank).

He is able to fall asleep on his own with no support, we just have to help him get to the point of drowsiness otherwise it takes him over an hour to go to sleep.

Anyone overcome the 30 minute napper?
Anyone have a high energy baby with a similar story?
Did anyone experience this and have it change once their child transitioned to 1 nap?
Did anyone else's child just nap less during the day, and it wasn't a big deal?

Just curious what is the norm and what other people do.

My DD is 4.5 and hasn't napped in at least a year, maybe longer, unless she's sick. However, I have a family member who's 4.5 year old still takes a daily 3-4 hour nap. It's a bummer because we try to do stuff with them but it's hard to schedule around his nap or they have to leave early because they insist that he naps. Like, they will leave a fun birthday party early because it's nap time.

What is the oldest you know of a child still napping daily?

DS turned one about 3 weeks ago and has started really fighting his naps. At home, he's been on a very consistent 2-3-4 schedule. Wakes at 7, nap at 9, nap at 130 and bed at 630/7. This past week he has been playing in his crib for 30-45 minutes before finally falling asleep. At daycare, he only has one nap and only sleeps 1.5 hours (not for lack of trying by his teachers - he is still in the infant room and they don't have a separate space for sleeping)

Anyway, I'm pretty protective of his sleep and I'm not sure if he is trying to tell me he's ready to drop a nap or if this is a phase. When did your LO drop to one nap?

Help!! My almost 14-month-old daughter is giving us some trouble with naps. She has been pretty consistent for the last 4 to 5 months of taking a morning nap from about 9 AM till 10:30 AM and then taking another afternoon nap from 2 PM- 3:30 PM. However, we moved about a month ago and I have started to take her with me to the gym in the morning's. I usually return home from the gym closer to 930 and immediately lay her down. About 50% of the time she will fall asleep within about five minutes and the other 50% of the time she will either take forever to fall asleep or awake up within 30 to 45 minutes. I am a stay at home mom with a husband that travels so I don't have any other options for the gym.... Unless I don't go. If she does take a nap in the morning and it's at least an hour long she starts fighting her afternoon nap. I started pushing out her afternoon nap to 215/230, but for the last week she has been fighting that and I'm lucky if she falls asleep within 45 minutes of laying her down. Her bedtime is usually around 7---give or take a few minutes The dilemma I'm running into is twofold. First is, is she ready to transition to one nap? And if so how do I handle that? About a month ago we thought she was ready for that but she became a real bear come 11 AM and when we laid her down, she would be back up by 1230 and then wanted to nap again around four but her bedtime is closer to 7 PM. The second part of my dilemma is that starting next week I will be caring for a 10 1/2 month old as well. Her parents run a very loose schedule and I would like to try to have them nap at the same time. I will only have this other child from 8 AM until 1 PM. Long story short, should I continue to lay my daughter down until she consistently fights her morning nap for a couple of weeks and also lay other baby down in hopes that she will sleep train herself? Sorry if this was long-winded and confusing but I would love some insight on how to best handle this! I really don't think that my daughter is quite ready to give up that morning nap but I would like to find some kind of healthy balance. Thanks!

Ps-- if my daughter continues to take a morning nap but I push it out later in the morning, the other dilemma I run into is her afternoon nap running past 415 in which I need to get the older two off the bus.

Over the last several weeks, we have noticed our one-year-old having a hard time falling asleep on a 2 nap a day schedule. We have begin to transition her to one nap a day. She typically weeks between six and 6:30 AM and is content until about noon. After lunch I lay her down and she's usually asleep by 1230. However she wakes up after an hour (when she was taking two naps they typically were an hour to an hour and 15 minutes each). Most of the time she just plays but sometime she does cry out. I personally was raised old-school and my mom had a rule that we had to stay in her bed a certain amount of time during naptime. All of our needs were always met, as our our daughter's. My ideal nap schedule would be that she falls asleep by 1230 and she needs to stay in her crib at a minimum of two hours. Is this realistic? I can see her on a video monitor and she's just rolling around and talking to herself. The few times that she has woken up and cried out I have gone and given her a paci and walked out. Other articles that I have read state you should stick to your guns and they will typically fall back asleep. Would love some feedback!

My little one is 8 1/2 months old and I think she is going through a wonder week. I am not familiar with this and would love some advice. We have noticed over the last few weeks increased moodiness and clinginess. She has not quite mastered crawling but she's definitely trying. She also has not had any teeth come in yet. The biggest thing that we noticed is that her naps are hit or miss. She will either take one and a half-two hour naps or barely sleep 30 to 45 minutes. While she is still sleeping through the night there are some nights that she will randomly wake up and cry out but once we give her her paci she typically goes back on to sleep any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks in advance!

DD1 turned 3 in September. She's never been a great sleeper but has taken good naps for the past year and half or so. Lately she has been saying she doesn't want to take a nap. She will eventually fall asleep for about two hours but not before fighting it first. When she does nap, she's usually up in the night at least once, usuytwice and up for the day fairly early. When she doesn't nap, she is in tears by 530, will fall asleep by 7, but stay in her bed all night long for almost 12 hours. At this point I'm not sure what to do. Shorten her nap? Just let her decide when she's done napping? Drop the nap and prioritize an earlier bedtime? Help!

How often do you get naps out of your 4 year old? Do you still make the take naptime? What do they do if they aren't actually sleeping?

My 4 year old is off naps. She will only nap if she is seriously over tired and we pop her into the car at 2pm or later.

I'm trying to figure out when/how I should try to develop a more strict nap schedule for my 4 month old. He sleeps in his crib at night, but only really naps in his swing or on his tummy time mat during the day, and also not for too long at a time. Is this normal? I actually just put him in his crib for a nap right now because he was extremely over-tired and I knew he needed a REAL nap... I assume this is the first step! But any other tips for those who aren't huge nappers?

So when I planned DD 1st birthday party she was on a solid 2 naps per day, they were like clock work. Well just when we got comfortable little miss decided to change things up! I think she's right at the point of dropping her morning nap, and sleeping from 11-1ish...give or take an hour. If it's earlier, she will normally take a quick nap at 4-5.

But here is the problem, when I scheduled her party, I made it from 11-2. HA! So do I try and have her take an early nap, and then have another later nap that day? Do I just let her push through, and crash when she needs to? ugh....I hate having to deal with baby naps, and events with structured times! HAHAHHA

On the days I think my LO will crash and take a great nap, she ends up sleeping 45 minutes. Then there are days she's super hyped up and I doubt she will nap at all and then she takes a 2 hour nap. I am awful at predicting how well my LO will nap!

I want to track them so I get a general idea on how much they are sleeping, but I'm fairly inconsistent with it. I guess it's harder with one falling asleep and waking at different times than the other.

Do you do it?

DS kept two naps past 18 months, but DD isn't even 11 months and I think she's trying to drop her morning nap. How about your LOs? Did you encourage them one way or another? I wanted DS to keep two because I was pregnant, but I'd live DD to drop to one because it'd be convenient for summer outings.

My 2 year old has been taking just barely an hour nap lately, and it's making me think she is trying to drop her nap completely...if not now, in the near future. Or maybe it's just a short phase that will hopefully end soon and she will get back to her 2 hour naps!

Not skip them, as in your put them in bed and they just don't take a nap, but when you are out and about or have something going on and they just miss their nap. Or you let them skip their nap that day?

LO2 is 2 and the past couple of months about 1-2 times per week I have been letting her pass on taking her nap, usually when we have a busy day, on the weekends. Luckily she gets back into her groove and will nap when I lay her down the next day, and not fight it. The perk to no nap days is she goes to bed a lot easier!

You moved them to a big kid bed? Or a toddler bed where they could get out? We are moving LO to a twin bed next weekend and I'm afraid she will stop napping because she isn't contained!

If you have 2 kids with two different nap schedules, when do you go out with them?

For example: my older son naps once a day around 12:30, but my younger son is on a two nap a day schedule and naps at 9:30 and again at 3. No matter what time of day we go out, it seems like someone is going to miss a nap. My youngest used to be good about napping in his stroller/carseat, but as he gets older, he's more aware of his surroundings and will refuse to nap unless we are home. So I'm wondering what others do in this situation.
