I know HB is slower than the glory days but still shocked to not see this event here. I can focus on almost nothing else, yesterday and today have been a blur. I live in the MD suburbs of DC and would have never imagined to see the scenes all over the news.

I have not brought it up with my boys yet (9 & 7) and not sure how to. So afraid it's going to get worse before it gets better. I want Trump gone ASAP.

Is anyone else having a hard time with all this? On top of a freaking pandemic too!

Just curious if you or someone you know has had it and what it was like. Most of the cases we hear about on the news are the worst-case scenarios so just wondering what everyone is actually seeing.

I don't know anyone personally yet that has had it, but there is a surge in our area.

This is so random... Does anyone know anything about the UK magazines called "Fabulous" (comes out with a UK Sunday newspaper) and "New" (weekly women's magazine)?

I was recently contacted by a writer who asked about profiling our story with the girls born 5 weeks apart, one carried by me and the other carried by our surrogate. She mentioned that the story would be published in these publications and I know absolutely nothing about them...

Anyone have any insight?

In talking with friends I’m finding that we’re a bit of an oddity so wanted to see if others are in a similar boat.

We don’t have cable or basic TV channels, only streaming, so we never watch the news and therefore my 7 year old is completely unexposed to current events. We are very proactive generally about exposing her to books with diverse characters, talking about history, quality, civil rights etc but we’ve rarely had to have that conversation within current events context unless she heard something at school, which obviously is not a thing right now. So I’m struggling with whether I should tell her about the protests going on right now. I don’t shy away from these conversations in any way when they come up but since she doesn’t know anything about it I also feel kind of awkward just bringing it up. Has anyone in a similar position found a good way to approach it?

If you live in an area that’s re-opened, what is it like and how is the general public acting? I grew up in a super right-wing, rural area, so the few people on my feed from that area have been posting restaurant sit down dinners, exercise outings with a pack of 10 friends, family get together a, talking about going back to church, having HS graduations, etc.

And all that’s so jarring to me in an area that was hit hard where *most* people are still pretty cautious and we still have “stay home” orders, with the only thing that’s changed is that parks are reopened for passive recreation, but there’s still no playgrounds or ball playing or gatherings outside of the family unit.

So, how it going where you are?

Is anyone else concerned about short term or long term local/global food security and supply chains? It was honestly one of the first things I worried about when things started to escalate back in Feb/Mar, but anytime I’ve mentioned it to family members they more or less say I’m worrying over nothing.

I’m in Ontario, Canada, and although the consistent message from all levels of government has been that there is enough food, I’m also hearing/reading more and more about farmers dumping their milk, meat processing plants shutting down or drastically reducing production due to Covid outbreaks amongst workers and/or unsafe working conditions, countries restricting food exports, etc. Plus, I know here in Ontario many farms/farmers rely on migrant labour to plant and harvest fruit and vegetable crops, and apparently there are concerns that those workers won’t get here (on time) this year due to border restrictions, or that housing them will be too expensive or simply problematic due to social distancing and/or mandatory isolation/quarantine requirements.

So, just wondering if I’m truly overthinking it, or if there really is something to worry about, whether sooner or later. Curious what others think...?

There are so many challenges right now, but what are some of the good things either in your home or in your community that you're seeing?

-Even though working from home full time is HARD with the kids, I'm enjoying getting to read a story, snuggle or play a quick game with the kids throughout the day. I feel like I'm getting back time with them which I gave up when I transitioned from part time to full time 3 years ago.

Hi - my husband works in retail and is in contact with the public all day long. So far, only 14 cases have been reported in my county but as testing ramps up and the virus spreads it’ll surely get much higher. I have a 3 week old and a 4 year old and am terrified he is going to bring the virus home and infect them. This new report has me especially freaked out:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/health/coronavirus-childen.amp.html

On his first day back to work after his paternity leave ended (which was Monday), I had him stay with his parents (they are young and healthy) because I was so scared. But then I got zero sleep and spent most of yesterday crying on and off because I was so tired and so lonely and so overwhelmed by all of this - so, I caved and let him come home to help last night.

Now I’m wondering if I should have him stay away again. If so, for how long? This could go on for months and months and I don’t know if I can isolate myself alone with the two kids for weeks, let alone months. I feel like such a weakling and sh*tty mom for admitting that.

For all of you with young babies who don’t have the option of having both parents stay home - how are you handling this??

This one hits close to home. There was a mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival yesterday. 40 minutes from where I live, where I almost took my family yesterday.

I have been close to tears all morning, I hardly slept last night. A 6 year old was one of the victims. 3 people died and 12(?) were wounded. I just keep thinking what if, what if I had taken my family there? Would we still have been there? It happened as they were starting to close up. The little boy was in the bounce house. My kids love the bounce house and I'm sure we would have spent a lot of time over there.

My heart just hurts that these mass shootings keep happening. Please keep the Gilroy community in your thoughts and prayers today.

I'm usually not one to get too excited about the royals but I have always like Harry, and like how Meghan has carried herself since their marriage despite relentless bad press. I was happy to see she waited at least a couple of days before a photo op and she is so relatable looking clearly like a woman that just had a baby. There are constant comparisons between her and Kate but I like that they are comfortable doing things their way.
I also like how the baby's middle name is Harrison which sounds like "Harry's son"

ETA his full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and people are having a field day criticizing Archie as being from the comic (insert eyeroll)

I have liked him since he was in the mighty ducks movie back in the 1990s and although I am way behind I have watched earlier seasons of Empire. I just can't make any sense of this story at all.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/13/us/college-admission-cheating-scheme-wednesday/index.html

I have been obsessively reading about this cheating scam since yesterday because I am SO ENRAGED. Rich people already get huge advantages through expensive tutors and test prep centers and basically money to make everything happen for their kids, and STILL that wasn't enough and they paid to literally cheat their way into elite colleges. In some cases, they had test prep center employees take their kids' SATs/ACTs for them; in other cases, the child took the test but after they left, the employees fixed their answers. And in the most egregious cases, the parents paid to have photos of their child photo-shopped to make them look like sports stars so the bribed college coaches would recommend them to the admissions teams.

And then I read this article and became further enraged because the bottom line is just that--the bottom line. The whole idea that the college admissions process is a meritocracy is completely blown to bits now. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/anonymousadmissions/college-admissions-scam-felicity-huffman-lori-loughlin-ivy

It's really just about the "full pay" students; how can the university make the most money? It's nuts.

floral print everything [wall paper, swaddles,..)
Letter boards
Turbans for baby girls
Foil balloons

I'm curious if these things are just trendy on my circle or if they are generally popular

What do you think can be built in to student education to end racism? I believe it needs to actively be stopped. Awareness and exposure to anti-bias education is not enough. What are you doing or plan to do with your children to ensure racism is not perpetuated?

Here’s a look at what SOME Republican women believe.

Click the link above on an opinion piece about apps that track your cycle and social media ads.

Personally, when I was TTC I used FF and OPKs. I learned about FF from HB. Would I have blamed you all if I didn’t get pregnant? no. On the flip side, I still use FF and my own knowledge of CM for instance to prevent pregnancy.

Do you think cycle apps are on par with other contraceptives? Should social media influencers and celebs hawk these products?

Would you get it? You can either get a year long pass for $300 or an 8 week pass for $100. This gets you unlimited pasta and soup salad amd breadsticks. I love Olive garden especially the salad amd breadsticks but wouldn't get this. They would need to have a family pass for this to be worth it to me

Is anyone going to give cheerios or oatmeal to their kids less now that the EWG came out with this report? https://www.ewg.org/childrenshealth/glyphosateincereal/#.W3bqdJXru73

Here is a USA Today article about it too

My kids love cheerios and oats and I thought I was doing good with giving them healthy breakfasts but now I just don't know what to think.

There have been so many scary stories lately locally (and I live in a rural area!) of abductions or attempted abductions. I don't currently carry ANY type of alarm or weapon but this makes me think I need to start...

Do you have/use anything? Pepper spray, sound alarm, weapon, etc.? Or have you taken defense classes?
