I can't really complain b/c I honestly was not even on here for months at a time, and very limited even now. But HB was on my RSS feeds so if I saw a blog post go up, I always made sure to read/comment to support the bloggers!

@ChitownRo: I really want to know how they've been too! Regardless of what has happened & what they did/did not do well with HBl; I wish them the best and want to know if they're okay.

I just want to echo the sentiments here - HB was such a key resource for me as I had my babies before any local friends did. It was a lonely time but HB really helped.

And I planned my wedding back in 2009, peak weddingbee days. So it has been 12 years of following along the Bee family - I am very curious about how they have fared during covid on the island, especially given the decreased tourism. I also hope there was some justice re: Mr Bee's mother's murder. So shocking and tragic.

Anyway, if they read the boards - sending you guys positive vibes, hoping all is well.

@JennyPenny: I think that is really true about feeling more shame as they get older. As if it’s less to blame on that age and it’s you or the kid that is doing something wrong. I have definitely posted here what I might not post on my neighborhood mom group! I guess part of that too is anonymity. My 9 year old is old enough to be self conscious if a friend’s mom knew something about her, while a 2 year old doesn’t care.

@josina: Oh man, I agree that it's the best parenting site, but I don't recommend it to people I know IRL. Too much personal stuff on here :silly:

@periwinklebee: I see it as the end of an era too but in a more personal way. It was there for me when I was pregnant and having small kids, but as my kids grow up I feel like there's less I need the community support for. BUT going against all that, I was listening to a podcast recently that talked about how we feel more shame about our kids issues as they age and we don't talk about them the way we do when they're babies and that is absolutely true. So maybe I need this site more now that my kids are aging.

I was thinking the other day that it feels like the end of an era, not just with hellobee but more broadly. I've been online since the very early days of the internet and have seen it change so much. My understanding, though it isn't my area of expertise, is that changes in ad algorithms have really favored major platforms, and make it hard for a site like hellobee to be profitable. If they remove liability protection for content posted on your platform, which has merits, that will just further favor the big sites. I know there are some real cesspools on the internet, but the wild west nature of it also allowed niche communities like hellobee that are just amazing.

We have something similar, but larger (can fit two kids at once) in our basement playroom. My kids adore it. Hands down one of the best indoor play purchases we’ve made!

My six year old can get it spinning faster than I’d like, but my three year old is very happy to spin a little or swing gently.

We did supervise it heavily at first because I worried my older daughter would somehow send her sister flying out...😂 But at this point, the kids know the limits we’ve set with it pretty well.

Thanks so much for sharing! I didn’t even finish reading your post before I signed up for this site and booked a slot! Such a great idea, especially this summer! I had been considering cold calling my parents neighbor to ask about renting their pool but this is way less awkward! Hoping it’s a good experience! We paid $45/hour for 2 hours and can bring 5 people. We were also considering renting a vacation home just for the pool so this is much cheaper then that...

I heard about it because one lady in the next town over posted her pool and said we could book it though swimply. Her pool is decent size (up to 10 people) but she's asking $60 per hour... that's bit much for our family of 4. I think the price is perfectly fair if it stays around $30? (of course depending of size...)

The only listing in my area is about an hour’s drive from us and, while the pool looks lovely, it’s just is too far and too expensive. Fortunately, we have an acquaintance who lets us use her pool, but I might check this site now and then to see if any more listings pop up closer to us.

Just writing up our experience since I hadn't heard of it before. Have you tried it?

Our pools have been closed all season and it's been irking me that we walk past our ready to open neighborhood pool daily. Usually during the summer I'm wishing for more hours at home so we can make use of the pool. Now we're always around but it's closed (which I support from a pandemic standpoint).

A few weeks ago decided I would drop some money to get in a pool. My original plan was to get a vacation rental but somehow I came across Swimply. It's essentially an Air BNB for pools. You can rent someone's backyard pool on an hourly basis. It's a little weird because it's almost guaranteed that the people are home and probably watching you but desperate times call for desperate measures. The first weekend spot I could find in our area was for tonight (about 2 weeks out). I paid $60/hour for two hours. We were allowed up to 10 people but we don't have a pod so we went as a foursome. We also used it as a celebration for the kids filling their good deed pom pom jar.

The Covid risk seemed pretty low. Outdoor swimming is supposed to be very low risk. The owner greeted us masked, as were we. There was a bathroom available to us just off the house which was probably the highest risk part of it. The bathrooms and other amenities we're detailed on the pool description. This pool also offered a hot tub, grill and trampoline. That was good because I managed to pick a chilly evening in the middle of July. Although the pool was heated the kids started shivering after about 45 minutes of swimming.

I'm glad I chose 2 hours instead of one. It took about 10 minutes for the host to show us around and for everyone to use the bathroom (as requested before entering the pool). And it took us about 15 minutes to get out, dry off and change with a few moments reserved for fits.

Overall it was a nice treat. I don't think we would do it again until we could go with at least one other family to increase the value.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread!
I've been looking everywhere for a pool like this and finally found one out of town on a work route DH was on yesterday (lucky because he's only working like 1-3x a month).

I think we'll try to chlorinate/cover it as best we can but since we are in FL I'm going to keep an eye on the mosquitos.

@Mrs. Carrot: As for draining regularly, you can try to do it a bit at a time over a couple hours which would help the yard absorb it more slowly. You can also try to run a hose to siphon from the pool and direct the water in a slower flow to where you would rather it go. If you're not chlorinating then it would be a great way to re-use the water for plants or things.
