My sister lost her baby in May this year and the due date was December 20th. (12 week D&C)

I was thinking of gifting her a simple December birthstone bracelet, but since I've never had a loss, am wondering if it's appropriate? Thoughts or other suggestions?

Did your symptoms increase after your loss? I’m getting more and more nauseous. I tested because I thought maybe the doctors had been wrong or something but there’s barely even a hint of a line. I would be 5 weeks. So I know it’s not viable. So frustrating.

If this isn't too much to ask: Did you learn anything from your interactions with doctors--or your body--that was useful moving forward?

For instance, were you able to regain a sense of control, or find a way to be proactive as you moved forward? Did you learn something about how you handle stress? Did you take up a practice that helped you later? Did you change doctors or hospitals? Did you learn something about advocating for yourself?

My greatest hesitation in TTC after a loss is becoming a patient again. I felt so small and powerless by the end of the whole thing, probably because it was bad news compounded over weeks, tests, and facilities.

If there's any upside, I'd love to hear about it. Were you able to channel some experiences around your loss, or challenges related to TTC, into something positive? (If the answer is no, that's valid, too!)

Dec 2 is the due date for our daughter we lost to T21 back in May. I'm really torn on what to do on that day. DH and I are both off from work, but I doubt (unless I say something) he will even realize the significance of the day.

Any ideas for staying busy? Should I expect to try to get out, or just be prepared to stay in PJs all day? I realize that whatever I decide is acceptable, but I'm hoping for some ideas on how to make the day more meaningful and to honor her in some way.

ETA: I was REALLY hoping we'd be pregnant again by now to soften the blow, but alas...

I've read lots of posts here about everyone's experiences post D&C. It's been so helpful to know the range of what to expect, so I wanted to thank everyone for writing out their stories.

I'm going back for a second ultrasound for my missed MC this Wednesday and am planning to schedule a D&C as soon as possible. However, we're supposed to be going camping with 3 other families this coming weekend, from Saturday to Monday. It's only about an hour away from our house. Is it totally crazy to think that we can still go if I'm able to schedule the procedure for Thursday or Friday? I want to still go as a good distraction and would hate for my family to miss it, but I'm worried about the real bathrooms being a bit of a hike if I start bleeding a lot or passing tissue. Two of the families will know what's happening with me, so they can always jump in to help with our DS if needed. There's such a wide range of experiences post D&C, that I have no idea if I'll be okay or not. Thanks for any input!

I had a D&C on 12/12/17 and went in on 12/27 for a post-op check and bloodwork. At that appointment, my HCG levels had dropped to about 475. My first D&C period arrived on 1/14 and instead of wasting time and money going in for weekly beta blood draws, I took a few HPTs until the lines on the wondfos got super faint. I then went in 6.5 weeks after the D&C for a blood draw (4.5 weeks after the prior draw) and my levels are still at 75 mIU. This is my third loss and with the prior two, my levels were under 5 when tested 4 weeks post D&C. I'm just wondering if others who have had D&Cs have taken this long for HCG levels to zero out. I know every body is different but this seems like a long amount of time to have lingering HCG levels and I can't help but worry about retained tissue, etc....

Started spotting last week, Friday and Saturday were medium flow. No biggie. Today? I woke at 7am and am on my 3rd Ultra tampon already. Ultra as in bigger than Super Plus. They're not even lasting 2 hours. No cramps or anything. Is this normal??

So not right after the procedure but weeks later whenever it came back.

Was it lighter? Heavier? Normal?

I had ewcm/opk+ but never confirmed ovulation, then about 9dpo I started some red bleeding (just a bit more than spotting) that tapered on 11dpo and has been nothing for a couple days since. Bfn so it's probably just a wacky cycle but I'm wondering if that was it or more to come.

I know I have nothing to do but wait and see but curious what it was like for others!

I had a somewhat drawn out loss back in Jan/Feb, that involved bleeding throughout the pregnancy, bed rest, and a slow heartbeat/slow growth that created a couple weeks of limbo. Much to my shock, I got pregnant again beginning of this month, but after some beta limbo that also ended in loss.

I feel like a combination of residual stress from the uncertainty of non-viable pregnancies, the hormone fluctuations, and dread about future TTC has made me feel anxious/stressed about everything. It spills over from TTC into work and other areas of life and is just pretty miserable.

I'm curious if anyone has any tips or ideas for reducing stress and anxiety following loss, and feeling less stressed about future TTC? Thank you

I had a D&E about a week ago at 10 weeks. I have been completely exhausted since the procedure - not just sleepy but it takes a ton of energy to get up and do anything, and it has seemed to get worse. The doctor said to take iron supplements, which I've been doing for a few days with OJ to aid absorption.

I'm curious how long it took others to feel normal physically after a loss. I was pretty anemic years ago, and I vaguely remember it taking awhile for the iron supplements to kick in. I have been trying to eat super healthy in hopes of speeding recovery along, but I know the name of the game - as always with TTC - is probably just patience.

So in an unfortunate series of events October-December I had an ectopic that was resolved with surgery and then a natural miscarriage. I finally got around to adding up all the bills from this and between the 20+ beta tests, surgery, the trip to the ER and all the office visits my total is over $3,000.That's what I have to pay out of pocket! I don't even want to know the amount that insurance has paid.
We have great insurance but I just can't believe the cost of health care. Not only is this putting a dent in our bank account, it's like a kick in the teeth every time I get a new bill.

I'm not sure what I'm looking to get out of posting this, but ugh! It sucks.

Hi y'all! I'm a long time lurker finally joining after suffering two back-to-back losses.
I had surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy last week (removed the tissue and saved the tube) and am wondering how long those who have had an ectopic waited to TTC? I know when methotrexate is used it is advised to wait 6 months, but my doctor said with surgery I should wait one cycle for dating purposes.
I'm obviously anxious to get back to TTC but am also scared about this happening again! Any success stories?

I have pcos and super long cycles (100+ days without medication, so i usually induce with progesterone to keep my cycles shorter). With dd1 i was on metformin for 4 months, progesterone to induce periods, and got pregnant on my first cycle of 50mg of Clomid.

Now that we're trying for #2, I've been on metformin (1500mg) for 6 months. Progesterone to induce periods. Clomid 50mg cycle 1 and got a negative (no ovulation that i detected). Cycle 2 ovulated on cd24 and got a pos 8dpo. Then had a miscarriage at 8 weeks.

I want to try again right away. I'm still lightly bleeding from my miscarriage and am obviously not taking clomid this "cycle"

My questions:
If you have pcos and have had a miscarriage, did you ovulate the cycle after the miscarriage (ie: 2 weeks after the miscarriage before the next period)?
Was your ovulation later than normal?
Was that cycle longer than normal?

Trying to decide how long i should let this cycle go. I am not willing to let it go 100+ days so i will be taking progesterone at some point... Jsut dont know if i should wait out a possible later-than-normal ovulation or just write this one off as anovulary

I know this is a really personal question, I'm just curious. If you had a later first trimester (or beyond) pregnancy loss, how long did you wait to try again? Was it based on doctor's recommendations or your own feelings?

We lost our third son at 18.5 weeks and it's been just over 3 months and I am not ready to try again. I'm not sure if we will try again, but we are at least considering it down the road.

ETA - All pregnancy losses are important and so I changed my original wording from this post where I said "after a significant pregnancy loss".

Well- I thought it went away on Monday but Tuesday it sort of came back. I am having kind of heavy spotting with a lot of brown discharge. What's that about? Is it just par for the course that I'd have a weird AF after my loss?

I had my D&C on Thursday. I've 2 days where I haven't needed pain meds at all, 2 days where I ended up taking both the ibuprofen and hydrocondone and the rest of the days I've managed with just one ibuprofen. But the pain is still lingering. I can still function after taking pain meds but I'm usually still not feeling great. My BM 's are normal ish. A little firmer than usual but I don't have a ton of trouble going. But i do get stabbing pains in my side/uterus when I try to go. Is that normal? Do I need to take more colace? How long will I bleed? It's really starting to seem like a lot of blood. When does the pain stop? Sometimes it's so sharp I can't breathe. I'm really feeling guilty for taking painkillers daily. This is just really hard.

About a week ago I had a significant bleed again. A couple days ago my HCG was a six. The doctor wants me to get blood drawn again in a week. Is it normal for it to take this long to drop? Can you not get your period back until after it is zero? Do I really need to get my blood drawn until it is zero/what is the risk of not doing this? We have to pay for all ultrasounds, blood draws, etc. until we hit our deductible, blah! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions! Much appreciated.

According to my app I am 9/10 days late in my cycle. My D&C was Jan 18th. My doctor said it could take 4-6 weeks for a cycle so I am trying not to worry but we have been busy to say the least. So pregnancy isn't out of the realm of possibility. When do I test? I am so confused. Talk to me about your experience.

No one ever talks about this but I just got the insurance statements from the procedure - all together before insurance, it came to $13k. That's only $1k less than my vaginal births with an epidural and 2 night stay at the hospital! How insane. I'll probably have to meet my $1k deductible.

I thought I'd start us a new thread since the other was was getting so long. And it'll give a chance for people to reintroduce themselves/update their old intros.

I just read this article and wanted to share it (which led to starting the new thread since the old one was rather buried)

https://www.commonwealmagazine.org/blog/grief-and-gratitude-thanksgiving

"Everyone says they know some people who have it hard at the holidays. People don’t feel that they can grieve at the holidays; they don’t want to spoil others’ Thanksgiving, they say. But I think it would be good if we gave one another permission to grieve, even, actually especially on Thanksgiving."

...

People think they cant grieve at Thanksgiving. But we have always grieved at thanksgiving and we will again this year. Like me mourning my friend; my sister, her daughter; and, these women, their ruptured lives. Contrary to common wisdom, real thanksgiving prompts grief. I am so thankful for Lúcás and Deb is for Megan. I am thankful for what I have had and what I have lost; thanksgiving makes me grieve.

But that’s ok."

ETA: Copied from old thread

Our last thread was a wealth of love and support, and since it was getting so big, I thought I'd start a new thread for us all. Please feel free to use this space however you like - and know that you are safe here, and are not alone.

Feel free to fill this in, if you feel up to sharing.

1. What is your story?

2. How do you feel today?

3. If you have any "next steps" what are they?

4. What coping strategies have worked the best for you?

How long did you bleed for and how heavy was it?

My procedure was a week ago and I'm bleeding heavily, I'm really weak and just this morning, I was passing tons of clots. I even blacked out in the shower and I'm pretty light headed.

I had my blood drawn for a blood count and iron check so I'm waiting on the results. Does this seem normal?? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I've miscarried before but I had my first D&C last Tuesday. I was told I might bleed off and on for a few weeks, but I didn't bleed at all following the procedure. But yesterday and today I've had a significant amount of dark brownish-reddish blood. Is it normal to not bleed for five days following a D&C and then to start bleeding??
