With both of my kids, I didn't get it back until they were around 18 months old. For both kiddos, I was BF/pumping until 12 mo & then did extended (but just before bed/nap) BF thereafter.

I exclusively breastfed my 3 girls til 1 year, and with my first I got my period at 11mo pp, the second was 6mo, the third was about 2mo! My doctor said it looked/felt like I was ovulating during my 6week pp checkup, and she was right! The difference between the 3 didn't seem to correlate to how they were sleeping at all.

I didn’t get mine until after all 4 of mine were 12+ months. With my oldest three, it happened about a month after we sleep trained and they started sleeping through the night (I assume the abrupt cut back in nursing—since we were cosleeping and they basically nursed all night long—hence the sleep training)

With my daughter I didn’t get my cycle back until she was 15ish months, well after she was sleeping through the night. But it was a more gradual cutting back of nursing sessions, since she didn’t need to sleep train ever (and very peacefully coslept without hardly nursing overnight).

Maybe tmi but I was able to tell my period was coming by monitoring (very suddenly noticeable) cervical fluid. And my postpartum periods were so awful—bad enough to make me want to get pregnant again asap :silly:

@bhbee: this rings a bell - DS had a 2 month long 4 month sleep regression

@karenbme: that's the dream! I think my previous first periods postpartum were super heavy the first cycle then pretty normal following.

I got a very light period back at 10 months postpartum. I EPed and my daughter was home with us the whole time thanks to Covid. I don’t remember a lot of symptoms other than a dip in my supply and some bloating/cramping a day or two before it started. Unlike the other two posters mine came back very light and stayed that way until about 18 months postpartum, when it got closer to what it was before I got pregnant, but it’s still a little lighter on average than it was pre-pregnancy and my daughter is 28 months old.

I didn't get mine until 13 months postpartum! I was breastfeeding my daughter on demand, but that was probably 5-6 times a day, no night feedings from about 4 months on. I think my body is super sensitive to nursing because I could not get pregnant with number two until I had completely weaned my daughter. (I was nursing maybe 3-4 times a week when she was 2.5 and we couldn't get pregnant for several months until I totally stopped with her.)

My first few periods were very heavy, so I would also be prepared for that. It was not fun. They also weren't regular cycle lengths for the first few.

I don't remember having any signs that it was coming.

I got it back earlier (maybe 7m or so) with my kid who slept through the night. My terrible sleepers who always wanted a night feed for comfort kept it away past their first birthdays!

I do think pumping is somehow different and causes it to come back sooner. For the 7m one I was pumping and saw a dip in supply right before, but with the others I was only nursing so couldn’t tell.

I think I may have had spotting as the signs leading up to it? I had some terrible postpartum periods when it stayed away longer (super heavy) so maybe be prepared - but who knows, might not happen to you!

Tell me about your experiences- I'm most interested in what signs you experienced that indicated your cycle wasr returning.

I got my cycle back around 6 months PP with my oldest 2. I also went back to work and was pumping instead of feeding on demand...

Here I am nearly 8 months PP with my last kid and no cycle in sight. I stayed home this time - feeding on demand, generally 5 times a day and baby sleeps through the night. I keep thinking its around the corner! Ugh.

I already invested in warm, supportive slippers while teaching from home last year, or those would definitely make the list.

I agree with the barefoot dreams cardigan or robe - I don't have one but know so may people who do who love them!

A nice, supportive pair of slippers. When my DD was a newborn she was happiest when we were walking or swaying. We don't wear shoes in the house and my cheap slippers weren't cutting it with how much I was on my feet with her.

A nice water bottle. I was recently gifted the stanley 40oz tumbler that is all the craze - I LOVE it! I wouldn't have spent the money on it myself but it is so great. Keeps my water super cold, has a handle, and fits in almost every cup holder. I know when DD was little I always had to have water near me.

A heated neck/back massager - when I was nursing my back and neck got so sore. My friend lent me her neck massager and it was amazing.

Maybe some nice skin products? I don’t know much about that but know there’s fancy options 😂
Or an nice throw blanket? Or weighted blanket? Cozy slippers?
Fancy candles or diffusers? I’m so excited about a new diffuser that smells like pine trees (posted under gift ideas thread).

The one thing I’ve asked for for years but have yet to get: him researching composting options and then buying the stuff we need for it 😂

Let me preface this by saying that I HATE asking for specific presents, my love language is whatever one covers the gift giver figuring out something that I would like.

That said, my DH is not great at coming up with gift ideas (ask me how many times I have gotten a jumbo pack of fine tipped Sharpies :silly: ). He wants some guidance about Christmas, and since I will be giving birth in February, I am thinking that I may steer him toward something indulgent for postpartum/breast feeding, like a really nice robe or . . . this is not an area where I usually splurge, so I am at a bit of a loss. Any suggestions of something useful, but also a bit fancy or luxurious for the third & fourth trimester?

Hello! I have an umbilical hernia. Planning to get it fixed after baby since this is our last one. Anyone experience the surgery or procedure? I assume laparoscopic would be the route I go... wondering if it would help the wrinkles on my tummy too? Anyone have this during and after baby? Thanks!

Love this topic. I found Bodyfit by Amy. She has a ton of free videos on YouTube that worked for me. I never studied her qualifications... but she said some things my mom’s PT said about sitting up... so I was hooked. Ha. They are short workouts, she is super postive, and has a schedule in instagram that was do able. Now if I wasn’t so stupid to try and lift and move a playset. Good luck! Hopefully this link takes you to postnatal videos.

https://www.nancyandersonfit.com/products/12-week-post-pregnancy-ab-rehab-course-coaching-included

I purchased it but have yet to start it. I think code lynzy2020 should get you 20% off. I did the evaluation part but really need to focus and the first few weeks are all breathing. Maybe this will be the kick I need to focus on me...

@jennlin821: wow! That’s quite a difference. I will definitely look into dermarolling.

I am not working with a PT. I have been following a routine from EveryMother. It has helped a lot, but I feel like my progress has definitely plateaued the past few months.

Thank you. I keep telling myself the same thing, but it’s so hard to be positive when I hate what I see in the mirror. I know I should be proud of my body for giving me healthy babies, and I am, I just want to do everything I can to help it fully heal I guess.

I saw this video on YouTube, about dermarolling - looks like she had a great experience with it.

https://youtu.be/ChG8aSvEU6A

As far as the DR - are you working with a physical therapist?

It’s only been 10 months - give your body some time and forgiveness!
