I had a slight prolapse - I did pelvic floor PT, and it totally helped, as did doing Barre and other core strength.... You're only 4 months PP! It will def get better!

Hey! I am a PF PT and want to say that 4 weeks postpartum is way too early to return to running but that you will most likely get back to it without further issues as your body continues to heal! Here are the newest guidelines
https://blogs.bmj.com/bjsm/2019/05/20/ready-steadygo-ensuring-postnatal-women-are-run-ready/
I’m glad to hear you are seeking out PFPT! Please let me know if you have any questions!

@bhbee: Thanks for the words of encouragement! I had read somewhere that breastfeeding makes it worse. Hopefully it will improve in a few weeks too, though I will be really careful not to return to running too soon.

I’m not a runner, but one thing I would say is don’t panic yet. I was really concerned about that time (4w pp) after my third but it continued to improve even a couple weeks later (and your PT will surely help). If you are breastfeeding, that makes it worse (my ob calls it menopause vagina :silly: ) but it will improve more when you stop. Your cycle when it returns can also affect it hormonally and may give you a few worse days a month, but overall there’s a ton of room for improvement and it’s not a static thing so I bet you can find a way to make running work. Good luck!

I unfortunately have a uterine prolapse (I’m 4 weeks postpartum). I am an avid runner and am devastated. Running has been a huge part of my life since I was 14 and prior to pregnancy I was running 30-40 miles a week at 7:30-8:30 pace plus workouts. It’s also how I socialize. I even met my husband because we were both on the XC team in college.

Has anyone been able to successfully return to running after a prolapse? I have my first PT appointment today so hope to learn more, but I have read that running slower, for shorter distances, and not on hills can help—but of course I like to run faster, long distances, and the beautiful hilly routes around here!

I bled for 6 weeks each time and it was always red, it would definitely ebb and flow if I was more active or times when I thought it was done then I'd start bleeding heavily and red again the next day.

I bled for 6 weeks, mostly red. I think it's more due to the breastfeeding and probably being slightly more active than you were at immediately postpartum.

FWIW, I passed a softball-sized clot at 5days PP, went to the ER, and they looked at it and said yeah, that's concerning but then they did bloodwork and sent me home saying I was ok.

@Shantuck: I think I had similar thoughts after my recent birth. My bleeding stayed red for a while then dropped off suddenly (like, in the last 4 days went from red to non-existent) instead of tapering and changing color.

@Shantuck: obviously ymmv but I’m pretty sure I remember this happening while bf #3. I would get up from feeding and feel a gush and need to go change my pad.

I read somewhere (not sure if true) that those bf contractions get stronger as you have more births so that could be part of it. Definitely watch the volume though and call if it seems too much!

I had baby #3 on March 11th in a quick and uncomplicated delivery. The baby is now almost 2 weeks old and yesterday and today I’ve been having an increase in bleeding (sorry to be TMI - but it’s bright red and heavier than it’s been in the last week). I had some postpartum complications with my last pregnancy (retained placenta; bled for 6 months) so I’m a little anxious about what is normal and what isn’t. Dr. Google says that the bleeding should be light and brown by now. My doctor said I should call if I’m soaking a pad in an hour (which I’m not but I am wearing adult diapers so it would take a fair amount of blood to do that). Anyways, I would love any feedback on what is normal since my last experience was anything but normal.

@HappyBaker: @skiierchck99: Thank you. I feel better about my blood pressure since I started the medication. My doctor has also been monitoring me closely for pre-eclampsia and I had blood work done most recently yesterday (and all was okay).

@LemonJack: don’t feel ridiculous at all and keep trusting your gut! I felt the exact same way like they were going to think I was crazy (and even had one doctor who definitely thought I was suffering from postpartum mental health issues at first instead of physical ones) but in the end I’m glad I trusted my gut and kept being annoying - I ended up in the ER 3 times in one week for BP at levels that should have given me a stroke and finally my OB made them admit me and it took 4 days in the hospital to get it under control. I would definitely advise making an appointment with a regular physician for the BP stuff at some point soon too, because in my case the first few drugs my OB tried didn’t work and it took a lot more trial and error to find a solution. The infection was a cakewalk compared to all that, so hopefully they’ll just give you some antibiotics and that part will resolve soon!

@HappyBaker: Thank you! Your issues sound similar to mine. They’ve been tracking my BP super carefully and actually put me on medicine temporarily, but I’ve been in and out of the office a ton because of that. I almost feel ridiculous going back in because I’ve been there so much, but something just doesn’t feel right and I didn’t have these symptoms at all with my first two. It’s good to know your actual infection cleared up quickly with antibiotics. We’ll see what they say tomorrow.

@LemonJack: I had one with baby #3 as well but along with abdomen pain had a crazy high fever. I ended up in the ER for mine because my blood pressure also spiked (unrelated to the infection). The infection part was easily treated with antibiotics and I felt much better from those symptoms in a day or two. I will say definitely keep an eye on your blood pressure as that is what can get out of control and many people aren’t thinking of that postpartum. For me, my symptoms of when it got TOO high were a pounding headache that OTC meds couldn’t touch. Good luck and hang in there!

Has anyone here had a postpartum uterine infection? I had babe #3 last Monday, and my recovery this time has been more challenging than with my first two. I’ve been dealing with persistent high blood pressure, which they’ve been watching, and now I’m beginning to wonder if I have an infection. My two signs are pain in my lower abdomen that isn’t going away as well as an off smell to my discharge. I haven’t had a fever which I feel like is a good sign, and is why I didn’t press to be seen sooner.

I did call our doctor’s office today and am going in tomorrow, but in the meantime I’m nervous. Has anyone here had a uterine infection without a fever? If you had one, how long did it take to clear it up?
