I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on being pregnant while parenting a toddler and working full time. I’m 8 weeks along with number 2 and my morning sickness gets cumulatively worse all day. My two year old has started noticing (and crying about) the fact that I need to take 15-30 minutes to lie down most evenings between daycare pick up and dinner when my symptoms get bad. I try to graze and not let myself get too hungry, but most days I just feel exhausted and very sick by the end of my work day. Mint gum helps a little bit, but I have no luck with ginger tea or gum and carbonated beverages definitely make it worse for me. Any advice would be appreciated.

PS- I’m also a little bit worried that my daughter is going to tell people at daycare that I’m not feeling well, which given Covid restrictions could mean that we have to choose between telling before we’re ready and keeping DD home. If it comes down to it I’d tell, but since I’ve lost 4 pregnancies in the past I’d really rather wait.

Ok, so I am just going to be upfront (although I am embarrassed) and say I have gained 30 lbs at 23 weeks. :bummed: I know. I gained a lot during the first trimester because the only thing that kept my morning sickness at bay was eating. Now that I am in the second tri, I am SO FREAKING HUNGRY all the time. With DS, I gained 45 lbs and then lost 70 doing nothing but breastfeeding and was at a very healthy BMI. I'm feeling so discouraged. Maybe this is just what I do during pregnancy? I've been googling "how to suppress appetite during pregnancy" looking for safe ways to stop being so famished. I don't know...I feel like I have a teenaged boy's appetite without the metabolism.

Anyway, I am not sure what I am looking for: commiseration, tips... just feeling bummed.

I'm having trouble staying hydrated this week. What are some of your favorite drinks?

So far today I've had ice cold water, a cup of hot decaf tea, and some lingonberry syrup from IKEA mixed in water.

Nothing sounds good to me right now. :silly: It's like pregnancy food aversions have now extended to drinks as well.

I was reading through an old thread on weddingbee about indulgences during pregnancy. The things that you totally binged on, or that were just odd.

I thought it would be fun to start one here.

Mine has been all things carbs. yesterday when i got home from work i ate 2 onion bagels with cream cheese. Then had DH pick up pizza and breadsticks from 2 different places because one has better pizza but the other has yummy garlic cheese dip. I only ate 2 breadsticks and a piece of pizza, but still feel guilty about it.

My DH and I both celebrate our birthdays together this month. Since it is his turn to pick our night out, he pick this awesome top rated steakhouse (Chicago) that we've both been dying to try. I love my steak Medium Rare. Anything above that in my mind is a waste of good meat. I'm 24 weeks along. Since I can't have wine for my birthday, do I risk indulging in a mid rare steak just this one time? Or do I just bite the bullet and order a Mid well....

I would love to add some chamomile tea to my nightly routine, but I'm not sure if that's ok. Any other suggestions besides the chamomile? Anything I definitely need to stay away from?

Does anyone use an app to track their food during pregnancy, to make sure you are getting the right nutrient mix?

I was previously using MyFitnessPal as a way to shed a few pounds. Now I'm less concerned with my overall calorie intake and more concerned with getting the right nutrition. I'm pescatarian (but fish is expensive) so I'm especially interested in making sure I get enough protein.

I actually feel like I haven't been as interested in food as I was before I got pregnant. Food was previously much more of a comfort thing for me and I'd sometimes have issues with bingeing. Now I just eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full, and I haven't been craving sweets as much either. I'm not experiencing nausea yet (only 5 weeks today) so that's not the cause.

I've been so tired in the evenings this past week that I haven't even really cared what I eat, I just want something quick and easy to prepare.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your recommendation for food tracking apps that are specifically geared toward pregnancy, or have a pregnancy setting. Thanks!

Before pregnancy, I ate mostly healthy fats (like oils and full fat dairy), lots of veggies, and protein. I've been fairly sick this pregnancy, and very few of the foods that I normally eat work. I dread having to find something to eat that will stay down and not aggravate the nausea, especially later in the day when I feel worse. Anything with fat really doesn't work. The best foods I've found are yogurt, fruits, saltines, sweet potatoes, low fat cheese in moderation, maybe eggs when I'm feeling better. I need to put some sort of protein with the carbs, because eating a ton of straight carbs also doesn't work great.

I'd love to hear what worked for others... could definitely use more ideas.

I am really struggling with what to take to work for lunch now that I'm pregnant. I find that lunch is when I feel the best/want/need to eat the most food, and if I eat a legit meal I feel better the rest of the day. When I eat a smaller/snacky meal I tend to be starving all afternoon/evening and end up feeling more crappy.

The issue is that I'm really struggling with packing substantial meals for work. I'm currently having aversions to vegetables and lean-cuisine type food. My doc is big on the no-lunchmeat thing, so I've been following that. I don't cook much at night (or ever) so I don't ever have leftovers. Also with the not cooking-- not super interested in doing a ton of cooking for work because I"m super tired.

Sigh.

Mostly the days we order in at work I end up feeling pretty good. The days I pack (which usually ends up being like, cheese and crackers or something) I feel crappy the rest of the day. But ordering in so much is expensive.

So far my only thoughts for next week's planning are to maybe get a roaster chicken I can carve up and take a few days and heat in the microwave, or maybe make a batch of pasta to take.

Any other ideas? Carb + meat + easy + microwavable is key here...

I also tend to have an irritable uterus that gets crampy or BH frequently. I try to stay hydrated but I require a LOT of water. I saw that some women take magnesium to help with both BH and leg cramps... have you tried it? did it help?

My ob gave me a printed list of foods to avoid (mostly specific fish but also things like alcohol and unpasteurized cheese), but it doesn't include some things that I've seen as no-nos on other lists--like runny eggs, salami/pepperoni/other cured meats, frozen yogurt...

She's generally very conservative (like, her list says to avoid salad bars....) so I sort of think if she doesn't say not to then I'm going to eat it anyway this time around...Though I avoided much more with my first pregnancy!

So, whose "rules" do you follow? Your doctors? The internet? A book or blog? Your own? Do you err on the side of caution and avoid everything?

During my first pregnancy, I gave up everything that ppl tell you to give up. But with this pregnancy, I've been more relaxed about it. After talking to moms with multiple kids, it sounds like all food/beverage should be fine in moderation.

What did you give up/not give up?

With my first I wanted all the bad greasy foods! Burgers, fries, buffalo wedge fries were my kryptonite.
With DD2 I still wanted those but also really craved sweets!

Did you imbibe right up to BFP (drink til it's pink mentality)?

Did you drink soda or coffee while pregnant and through out your pregnancy?

Do/did you eat ice cream while pregnant? I'm talking about fresh ice cream from a parlour, not boxed stuff from the grocery. I was reading that you shouldn't eat homemade ice cream because raw eggs are used. There are so many amazing ice cream places where I live and it's my favourite summer treat! Is it really a big risk... and did you stick to no ice cream?

When not pregnant, I am part camel. I don't drink much at ALL during the day. These days, I can't get enough liquids - Im always thirsty. I'm not eating particularly salty foods, so I guess it's just a pregnancy thing! I am loving Nantucket Nectars Lemonade (the sourness helps, I think), but I don't want all the sugar, so I'm trying to do water with lots of fresh squeezed lime.

What satisfies you when you are really, really, REALLY thirsty?
(I feel like a Gatorade commercial) :)
