Coming back for an update. 26 weeks yesterday and feeling good. I mean as good as non stop morning sickness and SPD can feel 😂 Still able to work so feeling thankful about that. We are team green and are excited to find out genders when they are born in September. Nesting like crazy, sewing projects like crazy, just really enjoying this pregnancy thing again.

Thank you everyone! Yes we told our kids already. They were aware of my miscarriage in October and have been begging/praying for a baby ever since. I had my ultrasound last week and saw twins and went to pick them up from school and told them. They are so excited. Really hope these beans stick!!!

@hellobeeboston: I live in Hoboken and am planning to find someone in NJ. This is primarily because I am pretty much guaranteed a private postpartum room in NJ. In Manhattan they are shared unless you get off a waitlist and are willing to pay $1,000 per night out of pocket. And if you have a shared room then your husband cannot spend the night. That is not the experience I am looking for, especially with twins!

ETA: The practice I saw today is an MFM practice that delivers at Hackensack. They would not ordinarily be my first choice for delivery but they have an excellent NICU.

@hilary: @avivoca: @twodoghouse: Thank you! Very helpful. It also helps that this is not my first rodeo. I already have a 3yo.

@hellobeeboston: I have consults scheduled with two OBs. They were arranged before I knew about the second baby. It turns out that the first consult was with a practice that is led by an MFM who specializes in vaginal deliveries of multiples. I have another consult next week and then I will finalize my choice, but I liked this practice. The only issues are that their hospital has a triage process and they don't have wireless monitoring. But I think I will probably get an epidural sooner this time so the monitoring might be less of an issue.

ETA: I am in the NYC area so unfortunately I think New Haven is too far especially given how many appointments I will have!

CONGRATS!!!!

Can an MFM be your primary? I would go with that... I have a friend who is an MFM at Yale if you happen to be in that area, I can recommend via PM.

Congratulations on your twin pregnancy, @ElbieKay: ! My IVF di-di twins are 3.5 now, so my pregnancy is pretty far from my mind, by here are the things I would ask/look for.

- how many weeks will they let you go before delivery
- if baby A is head down, can you deliver vaginally even if baby B is not head down? (Ie, how comfortable is the OB with breech extractions of baby B?)
- will you be seen by MFM throughout your pregnancy, and will MFM do the high level scans?
- how often will you have appointments with the OB and MFM? Will you have a heartbeat check by ultrasound at each appt (my dr’s office does this for twins because Doppler checks of twin heartbeats can be tricky/inaccurate)?
- does the OB have privileges at a hospital with a high level NICU (my twins did not need nicu time, but it can be common with twin pregnancies)
- will you deliver in the OR at the hospital and what restrictions will this place on support people present at the birth (in my OR I could only have one person - DH - which wasn’t a concern for me, but I know it might have been an issue for others who wanted a doula with them, for instance)
- does your hospital have enough wireless monitors that you can walk around during labor and monitor everyone’s heartbeats? (My hospital had wireless monitors to use during induction, but not enough for me to have one for each baby, so I had to be tethered to the machines)
- will you be allowed to go without an epidural if you want? (My OB would have let me, but recommended against it because I would have to be knocked out with general anesthesia in the event of needing an emergency C. I ended up having an emergency c section for my son - baby b - so I’m glad I had the epidural placed and didn’t need to be put under general anesthesia!)
- do moms of multiples get a private room?
