I had a partial placental abruption with my first at 32 weeks then was put on bed rest for several weeks. I had another abruption at 37 weeks and delivered then, so he was born at term. With my second, I went into pre-term labor beginning at 33 weeks then delivered exactly at 36 weeks (also with evidence of an abruption). I have been advised that I'd have progesterone shots with a third, but with two abruptions in my medical history, it's more likely that it would happen a third time.

My first was 35 weeks, second (with progesterone shots) was 36 weeks, third (with progesterone shots) was 38 weeks.
I had a partial placental abruption with my third, so I won't go past 37 weeks in the future.

My first was born at 34 weeks bc of pre-ecclampsia. I started having high blood pressure again at 34 weeks with my second, but went on bed rest until 37 weeks and delivered my second just 4 days early.

I was induced with lo1 at 37 weeks due to low fluid, so she might have stuck around longer if left on her own, but I was convinced lo2 would be early as well! I didn't have the same fluid problem and despite feeling a lot of pelvic pressure from maybe 35 or so weeks on, lo2 also had to be induced after she wasn't budging by 41 weeks!

DD was born at 36 w exactly (preterm labor started at 32 weeks). I had to have weekly progesterone injections from 16 weeks to 36 weeks with DS and he was born at 40 weeks exactly. I *think* it depends on the reasoning of why you went early as to how they go about it. Mine was unexplained so they did the progesterone in hopes that was the issue or would help in some way.

My second kid was born at 36 weeks. Apparently it was due to a small placental abruption. I'm little nervous this I will deliver early again this time, or even earlier. I know previous early deliveries increase your risk. But I have no idea by how much. Or how likely it is to go full term.

What was your experience? What did your ob/mw tell you?

Thought I'd bump this since it's World Prematurity Day today. Any other preemie moms out there?

Earlier this year I had a 25+4 baby boy who weighed 1 lb 14oz. He had a Grade 2 brain bleed and was on oxygen support until a few days before coming home at 39+6. I never imagined I'd have a micro preemie. It was the hardest and most stressful thing I've ever gone through.

I heard a really interesting interview on NPR today of the couple who authored this book:

https://www.amazon.com/Juniper-Girl-Who-Born-Soon/dp/0316324426

It's about the journey of parents to a micro-preemie. The interview was great and the book seems to have good reviews. Thought some of our preemie and micro-preemie parents might enjoy the book (linked above).

LO has had follow up visits with specialists he saw while in the NICU, but no follow up from the NICU itself.

The only other follow up we have had are twice yearly reminders from our state to have LO's hearing checked. He has several risk factors for hearing loss and his extended NICU stay is one of them.

Other than that no follow up.

But, our local hospital does have a day twice a year where babies come back and put a handprint or footprint on the wall so we got to say hi to one of the nurses who cared for him during his first few days. That was special.

ETA my son was not a preemie so maybe that changes things

My NICU had 6 and 9 month follow up call. Since they had torticollis, the babies have been doing weekly physical therapy at the same clinic that does NICU follow-ups. DS graduated from PT today. DD will be assessed next week. The PT mentioned that not all nicu follow up or check in on NICU patients after discharge. I was surprised to hear that.

If both babies do graduate from PT, the PT recommended coming back in before preschool to check on things. I think that is a great idea to be ahead of any issues.

LO was 6 weeks early. He was definitely hitting his early milestones (smiles, rolls, etc.) closer to his due date, if not even beyond that. I remember his smiles took forever, and that made me so sad at the time. Once he hit about 6 or 8 months, I think he was very close to hitting them based on his actual birthday. Now, at 20 months I would say he is ahead for verbal/communication and gross motor and very much average for the others, taking into account that every kid is different.

I used adjusted age and everything was pretty close. (Born at 25 weeks.) Walking was at 18 1/2 adjusted which starting to get a little concerning...but then he did it! He's on time or ahead for verbal/communication type stuff and at the very low end for gross motor. We did OT for the first year for feeding primarily since we had lots of feeding issues. But we graduated and everything has been great since!

My twins were 6 weeks early. My dr and I are going off of their adjusted age for milestones. So far no concerns of delays (or at least too early to tell). One twin is about a few weeks to a month ahead of the other but both are within normal. I was concerned about my daughter being a bit behind but the Dr and OT therapist said she's within normal. There are things she does better than my son and I take it as they both have different strengths and weaknesses.

When did your preemie hit various milestones? I know they say that most milestones are hit based on full term gestation.

Did your preemie hit their milestones early or late, based on adjusted age? And how early of a preemie were they?
