Anyone else? Did your baby roll shortly after or just go to crawling/scooting? N will be 6 months on Monday and is sitting for up to maybe 30 seconds or a minute unassisted, but hasn't rolled over. Well, she rolled from front to back once or twice early on, but it was completely accidental and she hasn't since. She's VERY close to getting from back to front, but can't get her giant head off the floor. :silly: She seems pretty on target developmentally otherwise, but our adoptions worker asked in her last visit if she'd been referred for a regional center assessment yet. She hasn't, but I'm wondering if I should be pushing for one.

DD3 is 8 months old, and still does not sit unassisted. She'll sit in tripod for a few seconds, then flops over onto her tummy, where she's perfectly happy. Technically she's more like 7 months based on gestational age - she was considered early term at birth so her pediatrician often gives her a little extra time to meet milestones.....but still.

Her next ped appointment is at 9 months; I'm trying to decide if this is serious enough that I should get her in earlier to see if it's time to consider some sort of EI approach. She's meeting all social milestones with flying colors, is a VERY strong kicker (but tries to avoid putting weight on her legs), and has great head/trunk control when playing on her tummy; she is mobile via rolling and inching, but can't crawl with her belly up either.

Anyone else have a late sitter who is willing to share which direction it went (ie., you left it alone and they sat, or you got some help from an OT or someone else)? Thanks!

My 6 mo daughter has consistently been rolling from BACK to TUMMY for over a month now but hasn't mastered rolling from TUMMY to BACK...all the articles I read online say that this is usually by done in reverse order!??? I "think" I mentioned it at her 6 mo well check and the Dr didn't seem concerned but I just don't want to be behind the milestones. I do actively encourage rolling back over during playtime. Thoughts??? Suggestions??? She has also almost mastered independent sitting so I feel confused if she's behind her milestones or not. Thanks!!

I've heard that because babies sleep on their backs, rolling over is no longer a 4 month Milestone but more like 5 or 6. My son is 4 & a half months but born a little premature and he's not really rolling over yet unassisted
Also, did they roll front to back or back to front?

5 month LO is still not rolling... He has come close back to tummy a few times, but otherwise doesn't seem interested. When on his tummy he will lift his head really high and look around then just goes down and tries to eat his hands, but never has even attempted to roll tummy to back.

Will it come eventually? Pediatrician said he might skip this milestone all together and go straight to sitting. Has anyone's LO do that?

I have no idea what I'm doing! DS is almost 7 months and I called a to schedualle his 6 month check-up but of course it's going to take a month to get him in, so he'll actually be over 7 months. Anyways I said all of that to say he has no interest in sitting up on his own. He can only hold hisself up for a second. What can I be doing to help him sit up? Since I have about 2 more weeks before his appt. I'm really hoping he can sit for a few seconds by then. The most effort I've seen him show in sitting up on his own is when I'm trying to put him in the car seat lol.😂

My 6.5 month old has never liked tummy time and I assumed he would grow to like it as time passed. He has been able to roll from tummy to back for a few months, but still has not rolled from back to tummy. When I place him on his tummy he does not seem to be able to arch his back and really get his head up, which I am sure would make him happier. He is able to sit unassisted and reaches for things at a distance so he seems to have pretty good head and abdominal strength. Any suggestions? The mama worrier in me is really getting going about this...

If they can sit unassisted for like 10 seconds, does that count? Or do they have to be completely stable.

DS is doing that tripod support when he is crawling into a sit position so he's more stable than DD. DD is not crawling yet but can sit for about 10-30 seconds, if I put her into a sitting position. She's stable but not stable... if that makes sense. She does not do that tripod yet. She does arch her back and that will bring her out of a sit position so I can't leave her unattended.

I just always wondered what the unassisted sitting meant to others.

DS2 is 16 weeks (4 months next week) and has rolled both from stomach to back and back to stomach several times. One week he did both many times. Now we can't get him to roll either way. What is up with that?

Other notes: He does grab his toes and roll onto his side. He hates tummy time and screams after about a minute.

Is it a problem that he WAS rolling but now isn't?

My LO is 2 mo old and naps exclusively in his bouncer, swaddled and thus not buckled in. The bouncing puts him to sleep like magic and I can easily extend his naps with little bounces if need be. He has never rolled over .... Yet. At what point should I stop swaddling him and/or letting him sleep in his bouncer unsupervised/unbuckled in case he rolls over/ out? Or is this just a crazy FTM worry?

We plan to move him to his crib when he's 4 months, bc DH and I will be home on summer break and can deal with sleep loss from any aspect of sleep training ( and yes I'm aware the 4 mo sleep regression might totally f up this plan...)

Which way did your LOs go first? All the books say they do belly to back first but not mine! DS1 did back to belly first because he was refluxy and couldn't do tummy time without puking so we didn't do it much. So far it looks as though this one will too ( he also hates TT). Today at 9 weeks, he has started rolling onto his side from his back.

Anyone else's LO crawl before sitting independently? My kiddo can sit unassisted for a bit, but can't get herself into a sitting position, and definitely isn't stable. But she just started crawling today. It seems out of order, but I'm not too surprised. Kiddo hates to sit still and wants to move.

We just had my daughter's 6 month visit (she was 6 months last weekend) and the doctor was a little concerned that she's not sitting independently yet. She can sit for a few seconds, but eventually flops over. The doctor wants to see us back in a month to recheck it. I didn't realize this was such a hard and fast 6 month thing. I've been trying to work on it with her but she just wants to roll everywhere - she doesn't stay still! Anyone else have a late sitter? Any tips to encourage her?

So, L got to sitting by getting onto all fours and then walking his hands back and plopping on his butt. J seems like he's trying to get there by doing down dog and letting his butt fall to one side. He ends up propped up on one elbow on his side. Is that ever going to work?

So what did you all do at night when LO rolled over and woke up crying because s/he got stuck? We're using the Merlin suit at the moment but tried a few nights here and there with a sleep sack and every time LO gets stuck and wakes up. He's not great at tummy to back rolling yet but the other way he's fine. He'll roll onto his belly, inchworm to the end of the crib, then get on all 4s and get stuck. Then wakes us up because he's crying. Then the next night we put him right back into the Merlin! The Merlin has become a sleep crutch for us, and I want to try to get him out of it sooner than later.....

She'll do back to tummy a couple times a day. She can sit unassisted for long periods of time and will pass an object from one hand to another so I don't think I should be that concerned? The doctor said it may be because she's chunky but I don't know. DS was just as fat and at this age I had to put up barricades cuz he was all over the place.

T is 7 months now and still not sitting! He's not very stable in tripod even. He's balanced for a few moments unassisted lately and I thought that meant we were finally getting there, but then most of the time he doesn't try to balance himself at all. Just happily flops over to his back.

If we gently hold our hands on his thighs he can balance himself. Wobbly but he can definitely sit up. But by himself...not even close. We practice with him every day and try to give him tummy time but he immediately rolls over to his back. He won't stay on his belly. Needless to say, crawling or any process of starting crawling is also far far off.

I really really feel like he's fine. He has lots of strength and is bearing weight on his legs so I don't think he's behind developmentally. But it's gettig more and more worrisome every day as babies his age and younger are sitting and crawling. I'm ready for him to be at that next level to see him learn and explore and have so many more opportunities to play!

And I'm tired of people asking me "Is he crawling yet?" NO.

I guess I'm just looking for reassurance or tips for what we can do to help him progress. DH works himself up over it more than I do and it's stressing me out. :/

This is hard to post because I truly dont feel like he's behind in the way that there's something wrong with him...but the more I see babies his age sitting unassisted or crawling or almost crawling makes me have a little anxiety in my belly.

T is not sitting. He can support himself in the tripod position for only moments and not always. He can roll to his sides but still hasn't started rolling back to belly yet. I know crawling is a long shot for 6 months, but I know 2 babies his age who are full on crawling and he hasn't even started getting on his knees or anything. He's on his belly and kicks his feet and that's it.

He doesn't like to have tummy time at all. He quickly rolls onto his back. We are persistent but I don't feel like it's enough. DH does "pull ups" with him all the time and we practice sitting. His doctor wants him sitting by his check up on the 22nd and at first I thought that would be no problem but other than establishing a few seconds of tripoding since then, we've had no progress.

He can balance himself well when I hold him upright, just a little shaky. All of his mental development is completely on track, if not ahead.

I don't know what to think. I don't want to be worried, but DH is stressed about him not sitting yet and it's stressing me out!! Seeing other 6 month olds sitting and crawling isn't helping.
What do you bees think?

girlfriend is only 16 weeks so that just ain't going to happen. lol

She started this weekend with this thing where every time we lay her on her back (every. single. time.) she starts straining and trying soooooo hard to lift her head/body up and sit up. Except she is obviously way too little to be able to sit up from laying down by herself. She has not yet even rolled over (either way)! She seems incredibly strong (like she has been standing on her own with us just making sure she doesn't fall over since about a month old), but she hasn't really cared enough to work on rolling it seems. She also hasn't really pushed up during tummy time yet. A few times she supports herself on her forearms, but mostly she just supermans.

So now for the last 3 days we can't lay her down (at all. ever.) without her screaming because she immediately strains to sit up and gets angry when she can't do it. (This is either causing, or is compounded by the fact that she has been inconsolably cranky the last few days as well).

Is there anything I can do to help her? I mean... she's just not going to sit up right now. Or probably for weeks. And I'm going to be pretty bummed out if it's another 2 months before we can lay her down haha. Also I worry she isn't going to get as much practice at milestones if she isn't spending much time on her back to work on these things.

Tips for getting through this bump in the road are appreciated :)
