Hello!

I feel like I’m all over the place.

LO wakes with us at 630am because she’s in our room and toddler awakes same time so i’m going in to get him. She seems to eat every two hours- eat, play sleep. I’m watching wake windows so she stays up for 1.15 before each nap. She’s ready for bed around 630-8pm. She will wake to eat( becomes restless around 1030-11pm). She will continue to wake every 2-3 hours in the night. Last wake will be 530am and i hold her for the hour. Naps are about 4-5 a day mostly 5. They are 30-45 mins. Last week the first nap was 1-1.5 hours now it’s shorter.

Questions- How do i know she’s getting enough?
Is she waking because she’s not eating enough?
What should the naps look like?
Any sample schedules with the awake time at 630am would be helpful please?
Should i relocate her to her crib in her room for nights? ( battling this because i’m anxious and worried what the aap says even though my doctor says it’s fine for baby).

How do i feed and follow eat play sleep if her naps are so short?

Sorry for all the questions! Thank you

Yes, I’m not sure what time to put my 6 year old to bed.

This last year I’ve been at home and had afternoon kinder with an 8pm bedtime. Starting yesterday we’ve decided on 7:30 for bedtime. I’m going to have to wake him at 6:30 when I go back to work and really don’t know if he should go to bed at 7pm.

Hi!

I am due in a few weeks and just can’t remember the beginning stages. I have a toddler and would like to start a schedule asap with feeding and napping.

We start our day with LO1 around 630am- he’s sleep trained and on a strict schedule. Two days a week he will be in school.

Bedtime for LO2 is 630pm- no later than 7pm.

I would like to feed newborn every 3hours. I will be BF but may supplement w/ formula if I have supply issues.

Newborn will be in our room the first 2 months.
I plan to have her do all naps in her crib though.

Questions-How many naps should LO2 take?

How often should the naps be with a family wake time of about 630amish?

From day 1 should I try to put LO2 down at 600pm for bed with expecting a few night feeds etc since it’s very early? Or should I just know the bedtime will be later since it’s a newborn?

Toddler bedtime first or newborn bedtime first?

If baby slept in your room- how long were they there for?

LO2 will be in a pack n play....

thanks!

It's only a minor improvement and not many data points yet, but I noticed that the two times DS had 3 naps instead of 4, that his first stretch of sleep was 3 and 2 hours those two times, instead of his usual 30-60 minutes. But he only got 3 naps cause we were out and he was just fitting it like crazy even though he was super tired. At home, he can go 1 hr 20 minutes max before he's just done (and starts to get cranky around an hour). He's 5.5 months now so.... do you guys think I should try to just keep him up and cranky longer to get down to 3 naps (will that even actually help night sleep??) or listen to him and let him sleep and get 4 naps if that's what it comes out to be? He wont nap any longer than 45 minutes (even on those 3 nap days) so it's not like he's consolidating his naps. And he still wakes every hour at night and needs help, and wants to eat every 2-3 hours overnight (he ate 4x last night after being put down at 630pm - 9:30, 1, 3, 430 and then woke up at 645 for another feed. I feed as a last resort when pacifier and rocking just isn't doing it and he's hysterical. He'll eat and fall right back to sleep so Im guessing he was actually hungry??).

My just turned 3 year old has been basically refusing naps most of the time for several months now. Maybe once every two weeks or so she will actually nap, the rest of the time we do “quiet time” in her crib. Since I have had to accept that even though she is obviously very tired and cranky, she won’t sleep, I have started leaving the curtains open or light on and give her a special toy to play with or books to look at. For a while, she would play or look at books for a while before fussing, but occasionally loses her mind crying. These are often the days before she finally naps again because the over tiredness catches up with her.

However, when she is crying and whining instead of playing quietly, we all lose. Instead of resting and recharging, she’s getting more upset and tired. And I don’t get any rest or recharge. I stay at home and quiet time for both kids is my only time to catch up on chores or rest or sometimes have a coffee to reenergize. The days she’s screaming I end up more stressed too. The 5 year old still does her quiet time generally well. We have had the same routine for a long time.

Clearly this isn’t working great, but the kids absolutely need a break from each other during the day and I absolutely need a break to catch up during the day.

Any suggestions? She’s still in her crib but has plenty of stuffed animals in there with her plus some special toys I give her during this time. I’m losing my mind with the tears. She is also going through something these days anyway- not sure if she’s a bit sick, or some developmental thing, or just being 3, but she cries and throw tantrums so much more than she used to. It’s a rough phase!

I am going to try to make this concise and not offer tons of information that is unnecessary to my question, which I tend to when I post on here.

My baby girl, 10mo, has finally improved from 30 min naps to a typical 1h-1h15min nap. I am so glad she did improve, but this length still makes it really hard for me to figure out ideal bedtime/naptimes. I tried to implement 2-3-4, and it really doesnt work too well with 1 hour naps.

7a: typical wake time
9a-10a: nap 1
1-2: nap 2
Bedtime is 7. She can barely make it 4 hours on a good nap day. Usually she ends up waking more like 145ish. I haven't consistently tried 6pm bedtime but it feels way too early for me and the times I have tried it she woke up a million times. I usually try to do a cat nap at 4ish but she often isn't quite tired by then and its a tough time for me to manage with dinner approaching, cranky 3yo, etc.

Any insight or suggestions?

looking ahead to my late-ish june due date and trying to figure out what maternity leave is going to look like. admittedly i pretty much entirely failed to get LO1 on a schedule on maternity leave, but working toward the schedule gave me something to aim for and i think did help me at least work on good sleep habits even if they took a while to crystallize. but all the resources i had assumed just one baby and overlapping those schedules with my son's schedule makes my head hurt! would love to hear what schedules people employed or aimed for with infants roughly 1-4 months (assuming obviously it will take a few weeks to try to work into any infant schedule and then that schedule will change and then change again) and a toddler who will be 2 years 4 months when baby arrives. thanks!

We recently had a baby and our four year old has been acting out a lot since. We have come to realize a huge portion of this problem has to do with the amount of one on one time he gets with us, but in particular, my husband. Problem is my husband works somewhere around 55-60 hours a week and is barely around on weekdays when the kiddo is awake. We have already tried to buy more time with dad by having him drive my son to preschool the two days a week he goes, he puts him to bed whenever he is home in time and gets up early in the morning with him. Unfortunately this isn’t the best quality time as we are busy and tired in the morning and the bedtime routine can be too quick at night. I was wondering about the possibility of putting him to bed later so he gets more time with dad but my son has never had much success in adjusting his wake time and we have only had success getting him to sleep later in extreme circumstances. I also worry that on days when we have to get out the door him waking up later might be a hindrance. Anyone shift bedtime like this? How did you do it? Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,
I have posted in the past that I am trying to figure out sleep training for LO who is almost 6months old. Well we moved and introduced him to his own room(he was in our room in a crib). He is no longer swaddled. I began with playing in his new room and playing in the crib.I nap trained for 2 days CIO (I really didn’t want to do this method) for up to an hour. He did not fall asleep. He cried for an hour both times. Last night, I started sleep training. He cried for 30 mins woke back up and cried for a minute. He cried for 15 mins during his naps today. He cried for an hour tonight. I put him down in his crib at 730pm last night and 7pm tonight. We have a strict bedtime routine.

He slept through the night last night(awake at 645am) and hoping same for tonight. However, I do not mind nursing at night. I set a time that I will not nurse before 1am.

When should I have his last nap be? Today he woke up at 330pm(I feel like he could’ve had one more nap but I wanted to get him down at 7/730pm). I do the routine of eat, play, sleep. Suggestions?

Depending on childcare etc I may have his bedtime back to 8pm. I wanted to get him down early because I wasn’t sure how long he would cry. Do you think this will be a problem? I know it depends on his wake up time. His Pediatrician stated 10-12 hrs is good for him plus naps.

He takes good naps (now after regression) so a I am confident he will have enough rest. Overall, he’s a happy baby and I go off his cues.

Any input would be great? Anything I need to look out for or avoid during this time? How do a i know he’s good with the “training”? I want to stay consistent and make sure he’s hitting naps in his crib as well plus night time. We did run out today and he had a nap in the car. Do you think this is a problem?

Sorry for all of the questions... FTM.
Thank you!

I’m just looking for reassurance and possible suggestions!

Last weekend, we took my 17 month old paci away cold turkey! For the most part, the transition went smoothly! She only got it at nap and bed times to begin with. However, ever since then (well possibly ever since the time change) she’s been waking early from naps/and in the morning. When she had the paci, we would give it to her when she woke early and it would often help her fall back asleep.

She has “two” schedules...it depends on if she has pre-school it not (I teach and she gets to go as well). What I’m finding is that no matter what schedule she is on, her amount of sleeping hours tends to always stay between 12-14 hours out of 24.
She’s a happy girl most of the time (we have entered some tantruming but nothing terrible) and she is definitely an early to bedtime child.
Thoughts??? Here are her 2 schedules:

Schedule without pre-school:
5:00-awake, typically plays in crib until 5:45 (we have a hope she may go back to sleep bc she isn’t fussing but it has only happened a few times and for only another 15-20 min)
5:45-6:30 (unless we discover a dirty diaper which has been happening a lot!!!) we let her watch nursery rhyme video on tablet (not ideal but I need time to get going for the day 🙈 )
6:30-up for day
9:00-10:15ish- morning nap
2:00-3:15ish afternoon nap (I think she could stay up longer here and try for a later bedtime????)
6:30-bath
6:45/7-in bed for night

Schedule with preschool:
Everything in the morning is the same until morning nap
9:00-12:30-preschool
1:00-2:30 (she very rarely will take a longer nap even if she misses her morning nap)
6:15 bath time
6:45 bedtime

Because she will fall asleep within 15 min (at the most) at all naps, I feel she still needs them (especially 2 when she can).

She does sleep all night with the occasional outcry but it lasts 20 seconds and will usually just roll over and go back to sleep.

Thanks all!!

Short story.
The 18 month sleep regression is still killing us. She's fighting bedtime every single night with major tears and tantrums. She's still on 2 naps but I can't figure out how to drop it to 1 nap because she wakes up so early.

Please share your toddler's sleep schedule and bonus - how you transitioned to 1 nap.
---
Long story
Dd is 19 months and we have been fighting the 18 month sleep regression for the last few weeks in addition to back to back colds, fever viruses, and an ear infection. For the most part she almost healthy now with a slight runny nose. However sleep is still a huge headache.

Bedtime has always been ~7:00 and she wakes anywhere between 5:00-6:00. She is truly an early riser 6:45 has been her latest wake up time ever and that's only happened a few times no matter how late we put her to bed.

She normally starts her morning nap around 8:30 or 9 and sleeps anywhere until 10 or sometimes almost 11. Her afternoon nap starts around 1:30 to 2:30 and sleeps until 3 or 4. I know 4 is late and I always wake her by 4 but usually I let her wake by herself rather than dealing w a major meltdown when i go to wake her up.

I'm thinking I need to drop her to 1 nap but my issue is how. I feel like skipping then morning nap will be difficult for her because she wakes up sooo early and the awake time will be too long between morning wake up and the start of her nap.

My 6 week old sleeps pretty well next to me in the bassinet but he is LOUD and it's interfering with my, and probably his, sleep. I've read moving them out into their own room, in the bassinet or crib, lets you and them sleep better, as they are not in the presence of FOOD aka your milk.
I know it's early but he can seem to put himself to sleep. I'm hoping to extend time between feedings (currently 2.5-3 hours, exhausting!)

Baby goes to bed around 9-930pm. We have this time because when I return to work I want to be able to be apart of his bedtime routine. Also DH works late and would be able to see him. I read that bedtime is 6pm-830pm???? Baby is in a sleep regression now and just wants to nurse all night and be held so hoping to sleep train shortly. We want him to have his sleep. I would like to. it’s him in the morning before heading to work(nurse around 5am)- maybe a dreamfeed??? and let him sleep until 7/8am - eat and nap... what do you all think? TIA

Anyone else dreading it as much as I am?

Last year was torture and our first experience with LO. My 6am wake baby turned into a 5am riser for months. Finally got him to 6am the last month or so. I didn't change a thing come Daylight Savings Time (spring ahead) and have blissfully been enjoying the 7am wake up time. I am up early, but I love that time to myself in the morning to, you know, shower in peace, etc... This year, I am hoping LO is a bit older and will adjust more quickly. Anyone find this to be true?

My LO does great with a 234 schedule. But I'm not sure what to do when he has a day with crap naps and wakes up too early. For instance today, he was up from his second nap at 1:50... which means 4 hours/bedtime would be 5:50 which is super early! He usually goes to sleep around 7-7:30.

For those who did a routine like this, would you put your LO down to bed super early, or stretch their awake time even though they're tired?

With great sadness, we are saying goodbye to enforced "quiet time" for my just turned 4 year old. Until very recently, she had nap or quiet time in her room for 1-1.5 hours while her little sister napped. Mostly she wouldn't nap but would play quietly with a few toys we keep just fornthe that. But the power struggles about staying in her room have escalated and bedtime and nighttime sleep have gotten pretty terrible, so I ended it this week.

So- in particular if you have a younger child who still naps, what do you do with your child who does still need some downtime in the afternoon? I've let her play with some quiet toys that I don't want around the baby (a new little Lego set she just got, and I'm thinking I'll take out the new kinetic sand she just got for her birthday). But I need some break in the day too to do things like pick up, make dinner, rest... TV or her kindle of course will occupy her but I don't really want to add another hour above what she already watches. Curious what others do.

ETA: I stay at home with them, and when school starts up in the fall it will be 4 mornings a week. I'm assuming she will need that down time even more after schoolbut she has a hard time unwinding herself.

Okay, so I really hope to not offend here, but what is up with moms on call? I have their app, and LO has never come close to their suggested schedules, primarily because he always needed to eat more. For instance, the sample schedules have no MOTN feeds after 8 weeks. At that point, LO was eating three times a night. It was only until two weeks ago (LO is almost 9 months old) that he dropped the MOTN feed! Now, for his age range, the suggested schedule says he should only have breastmilk/formula two times a day (once in the morning and once at bedtime). LO breastfeeds or gets pumped milk 5-6 times a day! I thought they were still supposed to get most of their calories from milk at this age. Anyway, I am not trying to trash them or start some controversy. I am just genuinely curious if 9 month olds typically only have milk twice a day, or maybe I am missing something because I only have their app and haven't read the book.

We've been promoting good sleep habits since my son was 3-months old (learned the hard way with kid #1). He goes down in a dark quiet room tired but awake and does well getting himself to sleep. We try to have a consistent schedule, but he varies so much! One morning he wakes at 5am ready to go, the next not until 7am. One day he takes 2 45-minute naps, the next it'll be 2 2-hour naps. Anyone have a wildly inconsistent sleeper and any suggestions with how to better regular (or cope)? I hate 5am😣 Thank you!

New mom question...

Ok everything I read says baby should sleep around 6-7 hrs during the day and 8-10 at night. He is 9 weeks. Before I went back to work he slept through the night about six hours. The day I went back he started waking up. Also he doesn't really nap during the day and the only way we can get him to nap for a short time is yo hold him while he is asleep.

Does anyone know why he would be waking up and why he doesn't sleep. Or is he doing fine. He will sleep about 4 hours at night. But I am wondering is it a growth spurt... he's hungry all the time and he is big. He is already 25 inches long...

We feel like we are failing at parenting!

Lo was circumcised on Thursday so three days ago and the day of he was ok a little fussy. Starting that night is when his behavior changed! I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience and is it the circumcision or just him and how do we change it back!!! Ahhh

So he used to sleep after feedings and we could put him in the bassinet, the swing, someone else could hold him... really anything. Now after he won't stay asleep after a feeding unless mommy or daddy are holding him. And at night he won't sleep in the bassinet at all! He could be asleep and if we lay in there in about two mins... he is screaming. He will only stay asleep at night if he is laying next to me. I mean I love him near but I know it's a terrible habit! Help!!!

Is this normal behavior, are we doing something wrong? I need some advice ladies!

For those of you who did the Eat Activity Sleep You (EASY) routine with your baby - what did you do about short naps? When DS was little we were able to do a pretty good EASY routine bc his naps were always about 2 hours. But at 9 weeks he has been doing short little cat naps and his awake time is super short. So it means he would be feeding like every 1.5 hours which seems like it's too frequent. Do you just always feed after Sleep even if the sleep duration is super short - like 30-45 minutes? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Last night it took DH and I 45 minutes to read each girl a book and get them down. There was so much stalling it was ridiculous. This doesn't even including pajamas or brushing teeth which was done prior to this.

We have to work on this because it really stresses me out. When it's just me putting them to bed it's 15 minutes tops, so I know it's doable.

How long is it from putting them in their bed, reading/singing songs to walking out of the room and they are actually settled?

My LO is 8 weeks old and I'm wondering at what point he might start following a bit of a sleep schedule with naps and bedtime. Right now I can't really choose when he naps. Sometimes he just passes out while feeding and falls asleep (even though I was trying for an EASY pattern!), sometimes one nap will just flow into the next with eating in between, sometimes he'll resist naps for hours on end even though he's clearly tired. Then when it comes to "bedtime" I never really know when bedtime is. For example, last night around 10 he fed but was so tired he only took a bit and then passed out. I thought he might do a good stretch then, but he woke up at 11 and seemed hungry so I thought then he'd take a full feed and go to sleep. But he again just took a small amount and also was NOT sleepy and suddenly awake! Then finally went down around midnight and woke up every 3 hours to feed as usual.

Just wondering if veteran moms can share if they went through something similar and if your baby started following a bit more of a predictable schedule at some point? I would just love for him to be able to do a long stretch when we go to bed or at least longer, but I never really know what he'll decide to do.

We have been doing the EASY routine pretty much forever. His milk and food feedings are distinctly separate because he seems to sleep and behave better that way, getting calories in every 2 hours or so. Now that we're going to be transitioning to whole milk and sippies, and eventually one nap, I just can't wrap my head around him only getting "fed" 4ish times a day! What was your feeding / nap routine 12-18 months? I'm especially interested in the early versions of a 1-nap day. How many hours before nap, and after nap?

Here is his current schedule, which is working well:
7: Wake, milk
8:30 Breakfast
9:30: Nap
11: Wake, milk
12:30 Lunch
2:30: Nap
4: Milk and snack
6: Dinner
7:30: Milk
8: Bed

He is starting to not finish his bottles. Should I decrease the amount of ounces or is that a sign he is ready to do milk with meals, instead of spaced out?

Sorry if I sound crazy, LO & I thrive when we have a schedule / routine!

What is your child's bedtime? How has it evolved over the years?

We started with a 6pm bedtime when M was 3 months old and I went back to work. I was getting home at 4:30 at that point so it wasn't too difficult to manage. Now at age 4, she goes to bed at 7:30.

DH gets home around 4:15, and if he has to go to his other job he visits the girls for a few minutes then heads out. If he stays home then we all hang out, go outside sometimes and then I start dinner. We will sometimes go out and do something like go to the park, a bike ride, or just relax at home. Our life isn't super busy (yet) so a lot of time is just spent hanging out.

What came first..... longer naps so you went from 3 to 2 naps, OR you went from 3-2, and then the naps lengthened? OR, I guess, you went from 3 to 2 naps and the naps still stayed short :-/

During month 5, LO took a 45min, 90min, and 45 min naps, OR two 90-120 min naps (like 1-2x a week.)

Now at the end of month 6, he is taking three 45 min naps or 45, 45, 90 (90 with us).

LO has also started grandparent care during the day instead of being with us, and I'm not sure that we're all on the same sleep page.

This summer both girls have had later bedtimes. With school starting for LO2 in a month (PM preschool), I would like to get them both on a better sleeping schedule. Right now they are going down around 8:30-9:00 and not falling asleep until 9:30/45 at times. I know it's not a huge deal since she doesn't need to be up early, but I would love something a little more consistent for the school months. I would also love a better schedule for the day too!

Help! I cannot get my 6.5 month old's schedule figured out. I feel like his naps and nighttime sleep are all over the place. He had been sleeping through the night (7-6) for about a month and a half, but now wakes up several times a night and then sometimes for good super early in the morning. I wonder if it's because of his daytime schedule. I can't figure out whether he needs 2 or 3 naps. Right now he gets up anywhere between 5:30 am and 7 am (but more often the earlier time lately). I try to put him down for a nap around 9 am. Sometimes he can't make it that long, and it's totally unpredictable whether he sleeps for 40 minutes or 2-3 hours. I then put him down for his second nap around 2.5 hours after his wakeup time from his first nap. Today, that means he got up at 3 pm from his second nap. He typically won't go to sleep for his third nap until at least 2.5 hours after his second nap, so that would mean a 5:30 pm nap. Isn't that too late for the third nap since it would push back bedtime to around 8-8:30? Then again, if I don't give him a third nap, I'm not sure he can make it to 6:30 even. Last night, like normal, we tried three naps and an 8:00 bedtime. He woke up three times and then for good at 5:30 am. That is not enough nighttime sleep for him (or me), right? This is driving me crazy. I work 50 hours a week, my husband works over 60, and we have a toddler. Help! Should I try to push him to a 2 nap schedule since it seems his nighttime sleep is suffering with 3?
