I have been building alittle stash of pumped milk for when I leave Lo(3 months) for 4 days. I’ve noticed that the measures pumped milk is different for various bottles and completely different when placed in the storage bag. So what’s the true amount? The bottle or bag? Also why are the measurements off... shouldn’t it be standard?

I got a (minor?) cold last weekend that started with a little sore throat with it peaking on Xmas day with a minor fever (99.8) and I'm finally starting to feel better today. However, it seems that since Monday, my supply has totally tanked, and it wasn't high to start with so now I'm worried if my baby is eating enough. I went from being able to pump about 3-4 oz every 3ish hours to only getting 1-2 every 3 hours tops. This also coincided with when I went from pumping/feeding both sides every 2-4 hrs, to feeding each side every 6-8 hours due to him sleeping longer overnight and napping or skipping meals for some reason. The first time I went over 6 hrs, my boobs were about to explode, now they barely feel like there's anything and I can only pump 1.5-2 oz. Could my supply have tanked that quickly from the change in feeding, or can a cold affect it that much?

Please share your experiences, good or bad, with maintaining supply while travelling without your EBF infant!

Our family has the opportunity to go on a trip this August and we’re on the fence whether to bring our then 3 month old. It’d be a largely outdoor trip and we have concerns over how he’d handle the heat and humidity. The trip can be cancelled, but not postponed due to financial/logistical reasons. I’ll have enough of a freezer stash to leave the baby with a relative for the four days, but I’m worried that my supply could take a permanent hit while he is so young. I didn’t leave his brother for that long until he was nearly a year old. I’m also trying to come to terms with possibly needing to pump and dump while away unless I figure out a way to travel with unfrozen milk

We anticipate that LO2 may have similar medical concerns as LO1 which will necessitate exclusive pumping. I really want to do all I can to try to establish a good supply this time around. If you had low supply with your first did you do anything early on with LO2 such as supplements etc?

Has anyone here taken Fenugreek? Did you take it alongside any other supplements (such as Blessed Thistle or...?) Did it work for you? Did you have any negative side effects? What dosage did you take? How much increase did you see, if any?

Have you ever tried power pumping? How often did you do this, and did you see any results? How quickly? Do you have any other pumping tricks? I'm using a Spectra S1 and can usually get 3 let downs/ 20 min session.

I'm pumping what my baby eats during the day, barely. Just back to work, just started making sure I'm drinking a ton of water (a gallon a day!) and I'm hoping my supply will naturally rise once I'm more used to this pumping schedule, but I'd like to help myself out if possible!

I want to try Fenugreek and whatever else usually accompanies it. I have had clogged ducts a time or two, but they don't last long and I've never had issues with mastitis.

I'm trying to power pump twice a day - once during my morning commute (right after I breastfeed my daughter - on the pump for 20 min, off 10, on 10, off 10, on 10) - and once around 1:00 p.m. (same schedule). Otherwise I'm pumping about 20 minutes once at 10 and once at 4. Home to feed my daughter by 6. I'm usually getting 12ish oz from the 4 pumping sessions, but again - I just started back at work so no idea if that pattern will hold.

Do you have any other advice? I don't have an endless freezer supply and I worked so hard to make it for emergencies! I'd like to be producing more than she's eating for my piece of mind.

Thanks ladies

I know pumping more often would help but I need to know what products you've used that you saw a serious increase in your milk supply. Or even what lactation cookies you made. And how long did it take for you to see a change.

What was your experience like with subsequent births?

I was diagnosed with IGT (insufficient gland tissue) with LO1, which resulted in breastfeeding "failure" (quotes because I was still able to nurse and pump for a year in addition to formula supplementation).

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with LO, and noticed today that I leaked colostrum through my bra and shirt. I know that can't be a bad sign, but I wonder if I'm getting my hopes up by being super excited about this!!

My LC told me you typically grow more gland tissue with each pregnancy. Beyond that, I worked hard to get out of my pre-diabetic stage before getting pregnant, and I plan to start some extra supplements at 34 weeks. Any experiences or advice would be super helpful!!

Tomorrow will be two weeks since I had my daughter and I have been pumping exclusively, no latching. I typically pump 5oz every three hours or so but I do not pump after 9-10 pm and so typically take first pump in the morning I will produce about 10oz. Now while the 5oz are okay for now because she's only eating 3oz however I want to increase me milk supply so that I can have a nice stash saved up. Especially for when I return to work.

Any ideas on what to do? Any cookie recipes? I really want to pump until she's 1, if possible.

We just got notice that there will be a power outage for scheduled maintenance from 5am-6pm next Saturday 10/29. I'm totally freaking out about what I'm gonna do w all my frozen milk!!!

I know they say to keep it in the freezer and not open the freezer door but our deep freezer is in the garage where temps are warmer. Luckily the forecast is low 70s next Saturday, but could definitely get warmer in SoCal. And isn't that only for just 3-4hrs?

Or would it be better to throw all the frozen bags of milk into a huge ice chest packed with lots of bags of ice and ice packs and keep replenishing the ice every few hours. We live a few minutes from the store and can go pick up bags of ice. I could also freeze lots of the bigger ice packs the night before.

We went out of town last week and LO3 came down with a fever and stuffy nose. Long story short, he didn't nurse very much and I was without a pump..

Now, this week, my pumping output has gone down considerably and I have been dipping into my freezer stash.

I'm not so good about drinking a lot of water, so I've been trying to keep that up and bring my supply back to what it was. I've also had a few cups of Mothers Milk Tea, but haven't seen a significant increase. I would like to avoid adding another pumping session into my day. LO3 is back to nursing fine, in fact he seems to be nursing more at night so my usual morning pump output has gone down a few ounces...

Is there anything you'd recommend for me to take (pill?) or eat (cookie?) that I can buy quickly off of Amazon? I'm not huge tea drinker and would prefer something ready to go as I'd like to avoid having to shop for ingredients to make a batch of cookies hehe.

Thanks!

My son is 11 months and has been breastfed. I was pumping 3 times a day at work until 3 weeks ago. I switched jobs and had 3 weeks off so we were just breastfeeding since we were together all day. I started my new job this week and I'm only pumping once a day and nursing him in the morning and when I get home. I am planning to start weaning him once he is a year so I don't want my supply to increase. But we are on vacation next week so I know he'll be looking to nurse at least a couple times throughout the day. Will this week of pumping only once kill my supply? I'm so worried that when we're together next week there will be less milk and he'll get frustrated. Plus my period came back this week just to make things worse! I'm just hoping we can get through next week and then go to nursing before and after work. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences?

With DS1 I took supplements, etc to keep up my supply because I was WOH more and pumping more. This time, I just feed DS2 bottles from my frozen stash and then my supply bounces back after AF.

I'm having a hard time getting DD2 to nurse from both sides all the time and then I'm left feeling full on the side she didn't nurse from. Would you pump to help with comfort? But then wouldn't that just keep your supply up? I feel like I'm so new at this again! :silly:

I started taking Zoloft a week ago (last Tuesday) for late onset PPD. My daughter is 8.5 months old. I immediately noticed that my supply tanked. I used to pump about 3.5-4.5 oz each pump session, and for the last week it's been no more than 3 oz each time. I also noticed that my DD is kind of frustrated while breastfeeding and I've had to feed from both sides whereas I normally feed from just one side. I started taking Fenugreek and drinking tons of water to get my supply back up and finally today I just pumped 4 oz, so hopefully things are moving in the right direction.

Curious, has anyone else experienced this with Zoloft?

LO is 9mos old. Over the past 3 weeks my pump output has been dropping off quite a bit.

Until this point, I'd been pretty consistently pumping between 11 and 13 oz per day, and had been sending baby with 12oz (as three 4oz bottles).

It was also typical for my pump output to be higher on Monday/Tuesday after spending the weekend together and to drop off by an ounce or two over the course of the week.

In the past few weeks my daily pumping output has gone down to more like 9-11oz per day, and I tend to have the lowest output early in the work week.

Three days after I posted that, AF returned for the first time at 9.5 months PP. Since then, I'm pumping a few ounces less a day. AF was here for 5-6 days. I haven't bled for 2 days but my supply still hasn't returned. DD seems perfectly happy when she's nursing, but the pump isn't quite doing the trick the way it was before.

I made some lactation cookies last night and had 2 last night and 2 this morning. I was hoping to see an increase in my pumping output and haven't yet. Did they work for you?

How long do they take to work?

This is the recipe I used and didn't deviate from it other than subbing choc chips for M&M's.

I've been taking More Milk Plus and the price tag is killing me a little. Anyone see much of a difference between a blend and fenugreek on its own? I have been worried to try it on its own due to many reviews that fenugreek causes gas. So far my daughter has seemed fine with me taking MMP 4x a day so maybe straight up fenugreek wouldn't bother her?

On the other hand, is the Special Blend of MMP even better and thus worth the added expense? :)

Anyone have a healthier lactation food recipe? Something with oatmeal, Brewers yeast, flax but maybe not a ton of peanut butter or honey?

I've been battling a stomach bug for 3 days now, and my supply of tanking. LO is waking up 3 times a night to eat when before it was only once. When I pump I only get 1.5-2 oz when I would normally get 3-4 at least. I'm drinking tons of fluids, and trying to eat, but it just goes right through me. Ugh.

Any suggestions?? I'm open to formula, but I want to breastfeed and I don't want this to be the end of it

Hey all, I could really use some advice. My supply seems to be tanking. I had a fairly decent supply before returning to work and now at 7 months it seems to be all down hill. There are a few things going on that could be causing it: first, we started solids, second I started dieting, and third (at least just for this week) I'm going to start my period. Now we are only doing about a jar of baby food spread out throughout the day, I'm eating roughly 2050 calories a day (I'm not sure if this is enough), and my period returned at 2 months PP and has always caused a small dip in supply but nothing like this.

I usually pump 4 times a day, 3 at work and one at night after LO goes to bed, plus 2-3 nursing sessions a day. I usually get between 3.5-4, at least enough for the 15 oz that LO drinks at daycare. The last week it's gradually gone down and today at my first pump I only got 2.5 oz. I'm really starting to freak out because I would like to continue to EBF/P until LO is one year, but I don't know if that's likely to happen if this continues. I've broken into my frozen stash already and it's dwindling fast. I thought it I only had to do it when I AF was visiting it would be fine, but it seems like I might have to do it more if this continues.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! Longtime lurker, but I've joined to ask if anyone has any insight or similar experience. My first LO is 8 weeks old, and I've been pumping about once a day since week 2 to build a freezer stash and do the occasional bottle. Some days I haven't pumped at all, occasionally I have pumped twice. From the first time I pumped, I have always gotten at least 2 ounces from each breast, but usually much more. Last week I pumped ten ounces in a session.

Yesterday and today my baby has nursed for much longer at each session, and today when I pumped I got less than half an ounce total. What could be the cause, and should I be worried about my supply in terms of how much my baby is getting when he nurses? Has anyone else had this happen?
