My baby just turned 9 months old and no teeth yet. Ever since he was like 2 months old, we thought he was drooling so much because he was about to get teeth, but none yet! Lately he's been grabbing at his ears a lot too (no other signs of eat infection or anything like that) which the ped said could also be a sign of teething but... nothing. Older brother got his first teeth by 7 months or so. Anyone experienced teeth coming in on the late side?

My almost 5 year old just lost both bottom front teeth on the same day. She already has the two big girl teeth about a quarter of the way in. So she had shark teeth going on for a little bit. Now, the baby teeth are out and the two new teeth are coming in set back behind the rest of the teeth. Did this happen with anyone else's kid? Our routine dentist appointment isn't for another 3.5 months.

Been reading up on these lately:

<< The first permanent molars usually erupt
between ages 6 and 7 years. For that reason, they
often are called the “six-year molars.” They are
among the “extra” permanent teeth in that they
don’t replace an existing primary tooth. These
important teeth sometimes are mistaken for primary
teeth. However, they are permanent and must
be cared for properly if they are to last throughout
the child’s lifetime. The six-year molars also help
determine the shape of the lower face and affect the
position and health of other permanent teeth. >>

http://www.ada.org/~/media/ADA/Publications/Files/patient_58.ashx

If your kids are older, do they have their 6 year molars yet?

I’m pretty sure my 6 month old is getting her bottom left molar. It’s hard to see but I definitely feel something and I’m pretty sure I can see a white tip. This would be her first tooth. Is this even possible? I always thought the first ones are the bottom front.

Hoping to hear that there’s a chance he may take his paci again! The sleepless nights without it are no fun...

My daughter got her first two teeth in January, at 8ish months. She's almost 13 months now and despite a few miserable days where I really thought the next teeth were imminent - nada. I can't see tooth buds when I look at her gums (but it's hard to get a good look!) The doc seemed surprised at this at her 1 yr appt.

What did your kid's teeth-growing schedule look like?

We did use Orajel a few times with DD and definitely used the Hylands teething tablets. But, that was 5 years ago and with DS, we haven't even once. It has been ibuprofen pretty much exclusively. His molars have started coming in, so I've considered buying an amber teething necklace, but am not sure it will really help. Our daughter wore one until she was three.

Thoughts on the meds? What do you do?

I noticed it looks as if her upper canines are trying to come through...could this be a culprit???? Didn’t experience this with other teeth—not to this degree!

She’s usually happy and it takes ALOT to upset her so this is definitely out of character.

My LO is 8 months old and has 3 1/2 teeth. She has her bottom two and part of a top tooth, about half way out and the other top tooth is about to break through her gums. Poor thing seems to be having some pain/discomfort, she's not herself. She usually hardly cries but she's just been fussy and crying and wanting to be held alot only by me. My SIL mentioned something about teething tablets that are chalky like and have no flavor and how those helped her children but I don't know what those are and she couldn't quite remember them to give me enough info about it. Does anyone know of anything like this? And can you give me suggestions on what I could use and what has helped your babies?

I'm pretty sure DS has two cavities. He's about to turn 3 in October; any tips to get him to have a successful visit? We scheduled a cleaning/X-ray appointment Monday and I want to make sure the dentist has a good chance of seeing what he needs to. DS was sick last month and didn't even like the doctor checking his temperature so I can't imagine someone invading his mouth will go over well...tips please...

Wondering if anyone has tried the new(ish) Teething Egg, and if your LO likes it?

DD is 6 months and seems to be working on some teeth. Her current preferred teether is her own hand (which is generally unsatisfactory after a few nibbles) or my knuckle (which is gross from a germs perspective, and kind of hurts!) we do have a Sophie teether (with the loops) which she plays with, and one of Sophie's friends (which is too thick in most parts to fit in DD's mouth). The makers of the Egg claim the shape makes it chew-able in even small mouths, and I'm wondering if it might provide more resistance to her bite (similar to, um, finger bones)....yet I'm reluctant to shell out $20 plus shipping on a whim sight unseen. 😊

Thanks in advance for any reviews!

If your LO is old enough to lose teeth, how old were they when the first one came out (not counting accidents)?

My son is 6 and still has all of his teeth, and nothing is loose! But he didn't get his 1st tooth until almost 12 months, so I'm not that surprised that they aren't loose yet. At school, I've noticed that nearly all of the kids in his class have lost teeth by now.

My boo just turned 7 months and a few days ago his first two teeth broke through--they're so cute :) But we've gone from consistent STTN to *three* night wakings/feedings per night in the last week. I haven't given him any Tylenol or Advil because I'm just not sure whether he needs it--during the day he seems totally fine, same cheerful baby, same good eating/napping habits. His daycare lady thinks he has more teeth coming through (so far we just have the bottom center) but I'm not sure.

So, wondering what you did to navigate teething--did you give preemptive painkillers, re-train after you thought teething was over, never give in to all the night feedings in the first place? I've done some googling and the only consensus I can find is "it sucked but we got through it"--but how??

@shopaholic: I found an old thread of yours, did you end up re-training?

Has anyone's LO randomly missed one tooth while teething? Did it come through later?

DD has had most of her teeth for months, but one of the front canines never showed up. I'm not sure what to make of it, but her other teeth came in all out of order and I'm worried they're too close together and getting in the way. I'm not sure if I should keep waiting or drag her to a dentist, and what a dentist would even do about it...

So DD (23 months) have never ever been bothered by teething before... Until I'm guessing these very last set of 2 year molars! I didn't even know they're not out yet.

She started having a low grade fever Fri night, so I just thought she was coming up with something. By Sat mid-day, she was refusing to eat, really cranky, etc and told me her teeth hurt. Sat night sleep was a mess; woke up every hour crying and crying. Meds aren't doing much. Sunday pretty much refused to eat/drink, cranky/crying all day. I don't think I've ever seen her this upset, not even with coxsackie!

We finally got her to drink from a cup (she drank from a straw which hurt more then refused all drinks). Still couldn't get her to eat. We're on I think day 3 of this now, so I'm hoping it will pass soon.. Her mood is slightly better today. Please Lord let her be better!!

This is just totally out of the blue. We're SO exhausted, esp since I'm 8 months pregnant!

Rant over  :crying:

My kids get their teeth late, so DS is getting his 2yo molars now at 2 years 11 months. (DD is 11 months and has 2 teeth, for comparison)
He didn't have a particularly hard time with any of his teeth, but either these are really bad or he's sick with something mysterious. He's woken every hour or two sobbing the last three nights. He's not eating much. He can't tell me what/if something hurts but he's just off his game and super weepy. Anyone else have really, really bad 2yo molars? Otherwise we're going to end up at the ped...

At what age do you allow your LO to brush their teeth on their own? And how much checking do you do, if any, afterward?

LO is 4 and she brushes her own teeth but I always go back through and brush them when she is done. She has been recently saying "but I already brushed them!", so it got me thinking, what age can they brush their teeth well enough to not need checking?

My 8 month old has 4 teeth. At this point would you just wipe teeth with a washcloth or brush them or...? Neither?
