I've flown once, and on my flight, everyone wore their mask without a problem and it helped me feel safe. Double up your mask if it will help mitigate some of the anxiety! I totally get being anxious. I also think you have to safely push against that anxiety when you can, in ways that you're able, to help yourself grow back to a health place mentally after all this trauma. The couple sent out a note this weekend to say they’re requiring everyone to be masked and tested, and that the event is mostly outdoors though masks req’d for indoor portions (dancing in a room adjacent to the outdoor area— which is odd lol). So, that feels decently safe to me… but the flights still freak me out! It went fine, though I will say that, as others have mentioned, I felt more unsafe at the reception after the funeral than while traveling. Everyone wore masks for the wake and funeral, but the reception, similar to a wedding reception, involved sitting at tables, eating, talking, etc. I do know that all my extended family members are vaxxed, though, and that’s who I was closest to/talking to! They're home again now since last week and I'm sure classroom closures due to exposures are coming. Maybe with older kids it's a bit different, but with the little ones I feel like everything the 10+ other kids in their class do is effectively what we do germ wise, as they seem to catch whatever their classmates happen to have. And what they're doing is definitely more exposure than a vaxed parent traveling alone and attending an event. I'm exhausted and wish this wasn't the case, but it's just reality. But if they are in daycare or school, it's significantly more likely that they will get it from an unvaxed kid that they are also around on a daily basis. He spread it to his kid (who had covid in March) and pregnant wife (who had covid and the vaccine). The adults are asymptomatic and the tot is mildly symptomatic.</p> <p>So given all of that, I wouldn't unless you're okay with potentially giving it to your kids. Possibly a hike in Forest Park or seeing one of the gardens<br /> Day three: Drive to Cannon Beach to see the puffins and hang out at the beach, possibly trying to find a place to hike on the way<br /> So many great Portland restaurants have closed recently, including Pok Pok and Beast, so that's sad. It's also not too far from the Evergreen aviation and space museum which is really nice (but I'm an aviation nerd).</p> <p>Food wise: I haven't dined in downtown Portland since covid. I've googled all my favorite restaurants and they're still all closed to on site dining. I used to live in southeast portland but I don’t cross the river much anymore and try to avoid downtown these days. I’m hoping the tide changes with the nicer weather and vaccine but downtown has gotten pretty bad over the last year. Tons of boarded up businesses and the homeless camps have spread. They’re going to start to do sweeps soon so hopefully that helps. If you want to stay downtown, stick to the Pearl area. NW 23rd is nice also, and walkable.<br /> As far as activities - I just went ziplining yesterday at Pumpkin Ridge and it was SO fun. I highly recommend it. Their website says it’s a two-three hour activity but our group was small so it only took about an hour<br /> We have great wineries out towards Sherwood and Dundee. Stoller is super nice as well as Ponzi. I’ve heard good thing about Fairsing also.<br /> The coast is beautiful if you want to take a drive out there. (About 3 hours away).<br /> Mt Hood is a short drive away (about an hour) and you can rent a canoe on Trillium Lake. It’s SO beautiful. Plenty of hikes out that way and in the gorge.<br /> If you’re looking to stay closer to the city, there are also hikes close - forest park has a ton and Tryon State Park is pretty close.<br /> You can hit up the rose garden and check out the pittock mansion. Tons of history there and I think the entry is only $10 for the tour. But you can go on the grounds for free, really nice view up there.<br /> Portland City Grill is great for happy hour. It’s in a tall building and has good views across the river.
