My cousin is getting married later this month, across the country. She was originally supposed to get married last year, like so many others. There's no direct flight, so it basically requires a day of traveling each way, with a layover in a COVID hotspot. I already RSVP'd yes, thinking that since I was vaxxed it'd be pretty safe...but now with Delta and breakthrough cases, and my los<12 NOT being vaxxed, I'm second guessing.

Kids and dh were always going to stay home since we aren't comfortable with them flying unvaxxed, plus it's a long way for them to go for a short trip (Thurs-Sun), and with the time change they wouldn't be able to stay awake for the wedding anyway (EST-adjusted kids at an evening MST wedding? no way lol).

What would you do if you were me?

We're going to be heading to Portland in June for our 10 year wedding anniversary  This will be our first time going away in quite awhile since our daughter was born just 4 months before the pandemic started. The plan is to be there for 4 nights. I'd love recommendations for anything - what to do, what neighborhood to stay in, and where to eat. We've never been there before. Thanks!

I need to be in a city 2 hours from my home two days in a row next week. I have to report by 4:30am at the latest both days. We're in CA and our rates are climbing.

Last time I did this trip it was one day and I stayed in a hotel the night before since I had to report at 3am. That was March 15/16th and I was equally terrified of Covid exposure in the hotel and driving in the middle of the night to work all day and then driving home.

I was going to drive the morning of when I thought it was going to be one day. Now that it's two days I'm thinking a hotel might be safer than all that tired time on the road. Thoughts?

I am supposed to take a mom-cation on friday night.
My plan is to go to a hotel room by myself, to watch TV, read, and soak in the bathtub while eating pizza.
The hotel is in the same town I live in.

This is long overdue, it was supposed to be a birthday present last august (instead my grandfather died) so we postponed it to my half-birthday in Feb, but then my family had the flu.

I am an extreme introvert so I try to take a weekend like this once or twice a year. I am extremely burnt out and in desperate need of some time to recharge.

On top of that, DD's (3) daycare is closing tomorrow, so I will be a SAHM during the day, while doing my full-time commercial lending job remotely after she sleeps; so two full time jobs in one day. I need to recharge before taking on this monumentous task, not to mention just the stress of COVID-19 during daily life over the past week.

So am I crazy to go to a hotel for one night? I won't have contact with anyone, i'm going to bring my own pillow and blanket, and clorox wipes to clean all the surfaces.

DH doesn't want me to, thinks i'm exposing myself needlessly. I'm in ME, we have 33 confirmed cases.

Hello,

DH and I are looking to plan a trip to Europe. I was thinking Spain. Something quick(5days) to see Madrid and Barcelona. No kids.

We enjoy the hustle and bustle so don’t be alarmed with the quick days. We did London quick and enjoyed it.

Just trying to see the touristy stuff for both major cities.

2 days in Madrid and 3 in Barcelona? or vice versa?

What to avoid? Must see? Restaurants?

Thanks!

Hi all, I don’t know what I am looking for but DH and I are away for 4days. Our 2 yo and 3 month old are at home with family. I’m pumping and dumping but feel guilty leaving the 3 month old. We traveled when our 2 year old was three months too and it was fine but I feel so guilty. She has breastmilk and we also supplement. Apparently she’s eating at her own pace. It’s the first day being away from them. Our two year old is doing fine and so is the baby but I’m so anxious about how the night will go as she does not sleep through the night.

DH and I needed this time as it’s been a lot (not dreadful) but a lot of adjusting with two babies etc.

Feel guilty leaving our three month old since I know our two year old has been away from us and does well.

We're going out of town for the weekend and my SIL is watching DS2. She asked if I was going to leave our insurance card and a medical consent form in case of an emergency. I guess a family she used to babysit for would leave one when she babysat overnight. I honestly hadn't even thought of it/didn't realize that was a thing. I can definitely do it, I was just wondering if other people did this or if it was necessary? I assume in an emergency my child would be treated regardless of a form?

DH and I took our first child-free vacation last week, an entire week in Cancun while the in-laws stayed at our house with the kids. It went really well. Both kids seemed to adjust fine. I'm really hoping to do a bigger kid-free trip in July 2020 for our 10-year wedding anniversary. The kids will be 5 and 2.5 by then. Am I insane to consider 2.5-3 weeks in Europe away from them? My in-laws would be happy to do it, and they would continue their normal routine going to daycare every day. Do you think it's too long? What's the longest trip you'd feel comfortable taking from your kids at that age?

We have a chance to leave my kids with my parents in NJ for a week and go on vacation, just me and DH. They live not too far from Newark airport, and we would go in early July.

Where would you go? We could drive somewhere (although we will have driven 5 hours to get from home to my parents with the kids already), or we can fly out of Newark. Probably we would go for about 5 days. I want relaxing, warm, beach or pool would be fine as long as it isn’t totally overrun with kids (I love kids but this is my first chance to leave mine behind, so...). DH would probably like to golf while I lounge at the pool or beach. Extra bonus points if there is a Marriott option since DH has a ton of points there.

Where would you go? Also I’m done with babies so not terribly worried about Zika but still not super thrilled with the idea either.

Tomorrow I’m going away for two nights. I’m currently on maternity leave but my work asked me if I wanted to attend a course out of town over the weekend. It’s completely paid for so I’m heading there a day early to do some shopping and just enjoy some time to myself.

As much as I need a getaway, I’m on the verge of panic attacks with the thought of being away. I have 3 girls and the youngest just turned 6 months. I have this guilt feeling of leaving my husband solo parent for 3 days. He is fully supportive and really encouraged me to go. But this mom guilt is fierce and I haven’t even left yet. Tips/advice?

We have a wedding out of state to go to the week after baby girl turns 1. I am having some major late night thoughts about bringing her, it’s really stressing me out! She still nurses a lot through the night (working on her falling asleep on her own but using a gradual gentle method and it’s very slow going). I would love to say that she’ll be sleeping through the night and figured out the falling asleep on her own thing but I just am not that optimistic about it!

I know that she’ll survive and even if she cries the whole time my sister will survive watching her just fine. But I feel so guilty and unsure about it right now!

It’s a super casual wedding and kids are allowed. I feel even more silly because my two other friends who are attending have way younger babies and aren’t batting an eye about leaving them behind. They are the only reason I considered not bringing her, at first I was excited to bring my kids to meet/hang out with friends from college who all live in different states!

I guess I am open to pep talks, encouragement about bringing her, encouragement about following through with not bringing her, whatever! Tips about pumping for comfort and to keep up supply when away from baby without intending to bring milk home are welcome too!

The other thread about traveling away from a nursing kiddo got me thinking...I'm really torn about what to do for a wedding we're invited to in about 6 weeks and we need to RSVP soon. I'd love others' opinions!

We're in NYC, the wedding is in Boston and it's an adults-only, black tie optional, evening wedding.

Background info: the groom was one of dh's college friends who I had never met before our own wedding, but then let dh and I live with him rent-free for over a month when I was traveling for dissertation research (he had an extra room in his house), though that was about 5 years ago and I've still only seen him once since (dh has seen him more, but we don't live in the same place. So I don't know him well but he's been extremely generous in the past to us.

Normally one or both my parents travel with us for weddings but can't this time,

Wwyd? See poll below :)

ETA: our girls will be 4.5 and 21months. 21mo still nursing now but can go without it

ETA2: added an option for bringing our sitter with us to Boston; not sure if this would cost more or less than having her watch them in NYC though

My husband and I have a brief (childless) trip booked to Nashville in July to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We'll be there on a Wednesday through Saturday and are staying at the Opryland resort. I've been to Nashville before, although it's been a while, so I'm familiar with the more popular attractions. He's never been for an overnight stay, but he isn't that into the country music scene. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for something we could do that was romantic or kind of out of the way. We had originally wanted to take a bigger trip to the resort where we went on our honeymoon, but we had to scale the trip back to make some repairs to our house. I'm hoping to still make it a special and memorable time.

So I decided to take a short solo trip to recharge. I'm going to visit a friend in Phoenix, and I've never been! The trip is mid-May.

I'm finally going to spend my hotel points and stay at the snazzy new Andaz Scottsdale. I'm SO excited! I'm also considering crossing off a bucket list item: renting a poolside cabana for the day.

It'll be my first time staying at posh resort, so I imagine I will mostly stay there and relax, catching up with my friend. What would you recommend for exploring the Phoenix area one morning/evening?

DH and I are attending a wedding in a remote area outside of London this spring, and have a few days to tack on a little vacation afterwards while his parents watch our three kids (yay!) We are most likely going to do Paris due to the ease of getting there (train), and some killer airfare deals we found for the return flight. But we both have not been since we were teens/young adults, and would love some tips from anyone who has been recently. Primarily I'm researching the following:

- Private cooking class? We did this in Rome and it was amazing - the chef took us to a market on his moped, bought the ingredients, and cooked a 5-course meal with us in his apartment.

- Daytrip for wine tasting?

- Private tour company in Paris? We've both seen all the "big" sites so don't really need an in-depth visit, but might enjoy some sort of neighbor hood tour or drive around the city. On second thought, even a hop-on-hop-off bus could fit that bill, if there's a route that hits some fun neighborhoods for a combination of eating (priority!), shopping, and minor sightseeing.

We'll be there about 3 days, are adventurous eaters, don't speak a lot of French, and don't care too much about finding bargains once there, since we're doing well on airfare and we don't generally get to go kid-free more than once a year - so we'll spend a little extra to get a great experience or for our own convenience.

Thanks in advance!

I'll be in Orlando in Florida - at a conference and have an opportunity to go to Disney after 5 PM.

I haven't been since I was 10, wasn't too interested when planning for this trip, and now I am slowly starting to think I'd really like to do it!

I'd like to go to Magic Kingdom one night, and Epcot one night, I think.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?? I like rides, good food, fireworks, etc. I know nothing about how to do Disney. I did see there's a reduced price for going after 5. Please share any advice/tips you might have - I know there are many of you who are really good at planning out the best Disney trips.

Also - do you think I'm crazy for going by myself? Is this more fun with kids?

Thanks!

I'm hoping to go on a weekend baby moon somewhere in the New England area (ideally within a few hours drive of Boston, but not Boston itself) sometime this month. I would love any and all suggestions about great places to go/stay/eat, as I'd like to do something new rather than defaulting to our usual favorites.

My parents have offered to take the kids for a night when we visit them next week. Any suggestions for someplace to go within roughly an hour of central NJ? Looking for something peaceful, don't care about nightlife as long as there is at least a decent restaurant nearby.

Possibly a shore town that's less party and more couple in their 30s who left their kids with the grandparents? Not really interested in NYC. Only one night, and I know a lot of places will have two night minimums. Thanks!

Ok, you guys gave me such AWESOME suggestions for New Orleans, I have to come back and ask the same for Charleston. For fun let's just assume no budget, anything goes. It's our 5 year anniversary so we'll be kid free 🙌🏼 And I'll be roughly 13-14 weeks pregnant.
It will be mid-September.

-What area should we stay in?
-Any specific hotel recommendations (while I'd love a B&B my husband isn't too into that idea)?
-Food suggestions? (I'm looking at you, @youboots)
-Must see attractions/tours?

We'll likely only be there 3 FULL days, plus the evening we arrive and morning we leave.
M-F.

DH and I are on vacation in Canada (Ontario) without the girls this week. Besides some sort of present, I'd love to take back some "Canadian" candies or biscuits/cookies that we couldn't get in the US. Any suggestions of favorites? 🙂 Thanks in advance!

My in laws are going to watch DDs 1 & 2 while DH and I take a 5 day vacation in a few weeks. They've offered to watch DD3 as well. As much as I'd like a kid-free holiday, I am feeling like it just might not work. Although she eats 3 meals of mostly purees, DD3 is still nursing at least 3-4 times per day and an additional 1-2 times overnight. I don't have a great milk stash, but with a lot of work I could probably get enough in time, assuming we do mixed formula/breastmilk bottles (which she has mostly been rejecting recently if they are too formula-heavy). I'd like to breastfeed for at least one year, so I would need to pump while away.

What would you do? Take the baby, or leave her at home (and possibly cut it to 3-4 days to make the milk thing more manageable)?

Help calm my nerves, alleviate my mom guilt. My husband and I are traveling for a destination wedding for 5 days. I have a three year old and a one year old. I haven't left them for this long before and I'm feeling so guilty and sad. We leave tomorrow and today my DD got pink eye and has a cold, so I'm sure my youngest will get it when we are gone and I feel terrible. I'm also worried my one year old will forget about me. My parents are staying with them, and they watch them when I work, and earlier this month we spent a week with them. So I know they will be alight, so why do I feel so sad?! Help calm my fears and my nerves, please!
