I'm freaking out a little, and need some help please...

So I took a test on Saturday, which looked negative, and a few hours later, a line appeared. So I redid it 2 days later, and same thing happened. Should I splurge on a digital?

Oh, I rinsed the first test a few times as it was yellow, but initially the line was a lot thicker. I'm so confused.

Opinions please!??

Had 3 losses, so scared to get my hopes up again.

@DamnedSpot: I just want to say congratulations on your bfp!

I understand your stress and your concerns, especially with your previous pregnancy. I know how it feels as a patient to have a Dr or practice that doesn't seem concerned at all. I think finding the right Dr is more important than their specialty, having that trust that they understand your worry, understand your condition, and know how to address both. I wish you luck!

First of all, I am not a doctor, but I did want to say that since all the conditions you mentioned are autoimmune, you may want to look into a gut healing protocol. A functional medicine practice may be a good place to get an overview- ours has an OB as part of the practice. I can wall you a link if that's helpful. Otherwise, you might want to check out the Weston A Price pregnancy diet. I found I felt best when I was following it, and it gives you something to "do", if you know what I mean. good luck!

@MrsJBeeG: @Sams Mom: thank you both for this feedback, it's helping me get a better picture of what this all can mean during pregnancy.

I think I'll take that advice, @MrsJBeeG, and push a bit more in the short term, the rheumatologist was already willing to add a few tests to find out more. Then I'll hope that things settle out :goodluck:

And at your suggestion, @Sam's Mom, I've reached out to my PCP, I like her and trust her, and will be able to see her more easily than any of my other options!

So glad to have this community to turn to

I have hypothyroidism and am 24 weeks pregnant. They discovered my thyroid levels were off during my second pregnancy - it was a blighted ovum ending in miscarriage. They got my levels straightened out with a lot of lab work in the beginning and now I just get tested every trimester for it. I will say my doctor told me this pregnancy that my levels have been under control for a year and so she wasn’t worried about my impact on the pregnancy.

So I guess I’m saying be aggressive about testing here in the short run until they get your levels in the normal range and staying in the normal range. Then you can be a little less aggressive with repeat labs and just move into the normal monitoring that I and others have.

Congrats on the BFP!!!!

@DamnedSpot: yes, I was diagnosed with hashimotos (previously hypothyroidism DX 2014) a couple months after my son was born in 2016. I have seen an endocrinologist on and off in this time but generally default to my PCP. During pregnancy my OB manages my thyroid just to streamline everything (but he knows the ideal ranges per trimester, I've heard some doctor's don't really address that).

If they can start getting your TSH down sooner than later I would think you'll be ok. High TSH can cause issues with pregnancy, but I also know that I conceived my first with a TSH of 3.1.

I've never seen a MFM in either pregnancy. My thyroid antibodies are pretty high too. Like my thyroid peroxidase levels are >600 and thyroglobulin is 224.

I saw that you delivered your baby, congrats! Thanks for this help, here are a few more specific questions..

were you already being treated for it before the pregnancy? My concern is that I'm just starting to figure this out, if my thyroid is doing abnormal things and I'm not yet on meds, is this pregnancy at a really high risk of miscarriage.

Did you see an endocrinologist throughout the pregnancy? Or does Ob-Gyn deal with monitoring? Or MFM?

I have hashimotos, and just had a baby 10 days ago. As long as they stay on top of your thyroid meds there isn't anything to worry about in pregnancy. They should be doing blood work in each trimester to check levels and reevaluate your dosage. Feel free to ask any questions at all, because I don't even know where to start.

This morning, I had a faint positive on a FRER. A week and a half ago, my PCP referred me to a rheumatologist, suspecting lupus (I had an elevated ANA titer). Two days ago, the rheumatologist didn't think it was lupus and ordered a ton of blood work. Yesterday, I got a Thyroid Peroxidase test back with my level at a 25 (9 and below is normal), and an anti-DNA double stranded test back that was negative.

In December, at 14 weeks, our NIPT came back positive for Trisomy 21, and at the follow up ultrasound the baby was dead. That event, on top of all these recent results, are creating a perfect storm of stress for me. I am trying to figure out what I should be doing and who I should be talking to.

I have a message in at the Ob-Gyn and the Rheumatologist. Last week, Ob-Gyn said to call them with a BFP, they would start to coordinate care with MFM. Two days ago, rheumatologist was very unconcerned about my possible pregnancy concerns, very much blew off those questions, didn't see any cause for concern (in her defense, we were talking before the thyroid test came back).

Does anyone have other ideas for what I should be doing? I know not all test results have come back, but I want to be proactive, and I am not a normally pushy person. But this is a baby, and if I have to be pushy to get more of what I need, I will be.

But can anyone help me with what I need? Or who I should be pushing harder to help me? Do I need to pursue an appointment with anyone else?

Thanks

@RKitty: haha, I need to scare my body into behaving! My OB had mentioned she can run tests to determine if I need to see a fertility specialist... I've reached out to her and I'm waiting to hear back about next steps!

In the meantime, does anyone have any Co-Q10 recommendations...?

I'm not in the 40+ group but I was AMA. (Currently 38 with a 1yr and 3yr). But I've got several mom friends who are in the 40+ group and some with fathers who are older. Obviously since they're all mom friends they've had successful pregnancy but I'll say most did require some sort of intervention. In some cases IVF and in some cases just getting health issues under control and better managed.

I would totally start speaking medical assistance sooner then later. It can take forever to get the referals/approvals/etc you need to get help so the sooner you get ball rolling the better. And at 35+ its 6 months not a year of TTC.

And not just your OB. It wouldn't hurt to get a check up at your regular doc to. So many things can effect your fertility - like Thyroid issues.

And hopefully you'll just be like me over 1yr TTC and the day you show up at your RE appt after finishing all your tests you get a :bfp: .... (my RE said we had to scare my body into behaving... )

Good luck!

@MoonMoon: I wanted to add, as a more positive note (maybe?) that the whole process for us, from starting TTC to losses and RE interventions only took a little over a year of trying. I just happened to get pregnant very easily. And because of the losses, there were several months that we didn't try because everything was evening back out. Which is why I say that it could have just been that we needed time to get a healthy egg.

@MoonMoon: my OB told me after 40 that you have a one in three chance of getting a good quality egg. I had three losses - like @Chuckles my first two losses were really early blighted ovums suggesting poor quality. It’s hard at this age but doable with support and patience! I say that as I’m embark on try 4 as we speak at 41.

Don't be discouraged! My best friend is either turning 39 or 40 this year and getting married this month; met "the one" in her late 30's (maybe 1-2 years ago?) I know she is being proactive by having already gone to an RE to get everything checked out, and going to start trying right away. You got this  :goodluck:

@MoonMoon: my OB ordered my husband's, but that just because my husband's insurance is in a different network and were looking months out. Otherwise his PCP was fine ordering the SA.

@Ajsmommy: @MoonMoon: That's how I feel, too, mostly. I'm 36 weeks pregnant, and I'll be 40 in February. We did see an RE because I had 4 losses in a row. We did a bunch of interventions like letrozole, trigger shot, estradiol, and more - basically everything besides an IUI. I had also gotten pregnant easily with DS when I was 32. In the end, it's hard to tell whether one of the RE interventions had anything to do with it or whether I just needed to catch a good egg. My losses were fairly early or a blighted ovum, which suggests that they were poor quality eggs. I would definitely suggest seeing an RE to rule out any obvious issues, but it might just take time.

@MoonMoon: A RE ordered one for my DH. We're 36 and I really regretted not going to a RE sooner.
