I tend to agree with @bhbee: on this topic. I think if you know you want a second and it took a long time to conceive your first, then it’s okay to try now even in the middle of this crazy situation. I guess I liken it to war in the sense that families made it work, even in Europe, during the world wars and had babies. This is scary because it’s unknown but it isn’t as scary as wartime.

I say this as I’m 29 weeks pregnant and wondering what this situation will be like in two and a half months when I’m due. I think where I’m at (WA) it will be good as we supposedly hit the peak 10 days ago. But one doesn’t know and this idea that it will recirculate in the fall again - like the flu - is worrying. But I’m just going to keep praying and doing what I think is best.

@Nutella: good luck to you too. I know it's hard. It must feel even more difficult knowing you were close to getting some help and now that part is on hold.

@bhbee: we are lucky we can both work from home, and we've basically self-isolated so the only risk is getting groceries.

The fertility clinic is closed. I'm not sure if get put back on a waiting list or if we can get in because we were precious patients. But last time it took a year before we could get in the waiting list, then we were on the lost for 9+ months before the first appt.

We decided to hold off this month but will consider starting to try next month. Its hadd to believe things will be that bad in 9 whole months from now....?

I would probably start trying, but just be prepared in case it happens quickly and you are pregnant during this pandemic. It's probably not an ideal time to be pregnant, but you never know how long it will take. It's a tough decision!

My daughter is turning 1 next month and we originally wanted to start trying for a second at the end of this year, but my husband now wants to wait for a covid vaccine, though not sure how long it will be until they are readily available. As of now we are undecided. I'm hoping we can stick with our original plan.

I’m in similar ish boat as you and also trying to figure out wth to do. We were about to start a clomid cycle before we went into lockdown the next morning so our fertility clinic is closed until further notice. We had been ttc for over 12mo unsuccessfully although none of our tests came back abnormal or with cause for concern....

We’ve been trying naturally but I have to admit it’s super hard as I think the emotional aspect is playing on my mind and it’s making it all hard and not at all un-stressful like it’s “meant” to be.

I haven’t been able to vocalise these thoughts out loud as I feel like it’s a tricky subject to bring up with everything going on right now, but what can I say - the biological clock keeps ticking regardless :bummed: :bummed:

Good luck with your next steps

Honestly, I would probably do it in your shoes, assuming you don’t have any risk factors in your health or jobs that could put you at risk. There’s a huge amount of uncertainty about pregnancy and Covid so I guess you have to be ok with that but there’s no red flag anywhere that I’ve heard of.

TTC after IF is so hard to manage. It might take you three years again, it might take one cycle, and you just don’t know until you get there. Fertility clinics seem to be closed but trying at home seems pretty low risk to me. You need to be ok with the idea that you may get pregnant quickly and then have to deal with pregnancy things during all the closures etc. But on the flip side if it doesn’t work you’ll know you’re ready to see your re again when things open.

Totally non medical opinion - take it with a grain of salt!

I'm 30 and my first just turned 1. It took us 3 very long years to finally get pregnant. We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility so it's not like there was anything "wrong". I was told I had low AMH, although I cant remember the number I think it was on the low end of normal. Although the doctor did say she didnt want us to waste too much time trying with IUI before going to IVF. luckily I ended up getting pregnant with IUI.

Now, I've had baby fever since LO was 4 months old. But I need to work 6 months to qualify for mat leave and pay top-up. So the plan was to start TTC when LO turned 1

But now with the pandemic.... I dont know what to do. I'm in Canada and in a province with some of the lowest numbers. This could mean nothing though. But what if it takes us another 3 years?

What would you do?

@MRS.SAND: I have a couple of friends in your situation, and they both really wanted to do ivf, but the cost ultimately stopped them.
I’m doing ivf now for my third at home, I didn’t have to do it to get pregnant in the past, and it’s no fun, but in my opinion worth it for another baby.

Last year I had my tubes tied because we thought we were done having kids. I was in a bad place and the thought of another kid was enough to drive me crazy. As they wheeled me into surgery I contemplated calling surgery off, but I didn't. And I've thought about it ever since.

Even on the days where the kids are crazy, I still think of adding a third. My husband and I are talking out all our options and whether a third is in our future or not and seeing if we should go the route of IVF. I don't think I'm interested in having my tubes untied since it's a lengthy process, less likely to work, and then I'd be back on birth control after the possible baby.

So I'm curious to hear others opinions on a baby after a tubal, and especially if you went the IVF route!

@MsBAM: My cycle has changed since LO1. CM, luteal phase, when I ovulate, how long my period is, pretty much everything.... So it's also possible that your cycle has changed without realizing it, and that's why it hasn't worked yet...

I havent read the other comments, but DS (and the two losses before him) took 1 cycle when I was 30. We tried again and it took 10-11 months. It was heartbreaking and discouraging (and I say this knowing that it was nothing compared to what others endure.) We had done one medicated cycle with no luck. The day we were about to start the prep work for an iui, I found out I was pregnant with our daughter. I had done some research and the 25% chance applied to those much younger than I was at age 33. I was looking at closer to a 10-12% chance even if all other criteria were ideal. So, if there are no other fertility factors, it is about 1 in 10 cycles. It really is just playing the lottery until your "chance" comes up.

@MsBAM: app algorithms are based off of an average 28 day cycle, so you can't rely on them to be accurate. For any number of reasons you could have an early or late ovulation, which can lead you to think your period was early or late. If you confirm ovulation with OPK/CM/temping and know your average LP (they vary in length very little) you'll know when to expect your period or when to test more accurately.

When TTC trusting the app's prediction isn't as bad as if you're using them to avoid pregnancy; but could make you miss your fertile window.

@CatchAFallingStar: I think I know when I’m ovulating and can tell by the cervical mucus. I haven’t used ovulation tests but plan to. I also use an app to track my cycles which tells me my predicted most fertile days.... definately gonna buy an ovulation kit for cycle 3.

@MsBAM: I was 34 when I got pregnant and I had gone in to get all sorts of testing at a fertility clinic. The results were, to say the least, very discouraging. They basically told me I had very few eggs and what I had might be compromised quality. However I got pregnant three times! So it's not all about age and lab numbers 😁

At 33 you're still under the age cut off for AMA. Depending on your doctor you can seek help as early as 6 months in.

For us our son was an oops/surprise baby after 3 1/2 years of FAM birth control. Now I am on cycle 26 TTC baby #2 🤷🏼‍♀️ Honestly I've had waves of extreme optimism and moments of absolutely zero hope; I actually remember cycle 5 being particularly depressing and cycle 19? ish being really hopeful.

It took nearly a year with our first, with some complications along the way (partial molar pregnancy), and I'm still a bit disappointed that nothing in 2-3 months of trying for #2. I had exactly zero expectations that it would happen right away, but when AF shows up, it's still meh :meh: Let yourself be disappointed, but you really don't need to start worrying that something is wrong until a year in. Completely normal for it to take some time, regardless of age...

We conceived our first on the first cycle and it took us 10 months for our second. I also had a health issue in there. All I can say is it sucks. You have no control over it and it just will or won't be.
I bought an Ava bracelet and sometimes used opks. I know we were hitting the right time, I'm sure it helped but it made me feel totally helpless. We were going to have labs and stuff ran the month that I had my health issue. After that it seemed much less important and I relaxed slightly (not that that had anything to do with it but it made ttc consume me much less)

I won't say relax and it will happen because that sucks to hear. It will most likely eventually happen. It's unfortunately a numbers game 😣

Sorry for the giant ramble but alot of ladies on here helped me when I was struggling and made me feel like it was ok to freak out and not be ok that it was taking more than a month

The uncertainty is SO hard! We tried for 2 months for #2, then were put on hold for 7 months for a health scare, then tried 3 more months. I bought myself a nice bottle of wine everytime AF showed up. Probably not the best message :silly: but a special treat like a massage or manicure gave me something to look forward to if we didn't conceive. Also, planning fun things with DH and #1 helped me. Good luck mama! :goodluck:

@pachamama: Thank you! And I think I’m more concerned bc of my age, otherwise I might be able to just let it be. I’m hoping it happens by Sept/Oct but would like if it happen sooner. It’s hard.

@MsBAM: I'm sorry, I have been there! The first lesson I learned is to completely eliminate your expectations when it comes to TTC. It could take months or years. And you have no control which is so hard! I remember crying after 3 months bc we hadn't conceived. It took 13 for my 1st son, only one cycle for my second which was a miscarriage and nine more cycles for my third pregnancy. Best of luck. I will not give you toxic positivity like "relax" . but I really do empathise bc it's so frustrating to not have control over such a big thing in your life. Xo
