My son just got glasses. He likes them tho. Can you try wearing them when she’s doing something fun?! While doing a favorite activity and maybe she won’t notice they are on. It may be because she knows it’s something “different “. I would also try while watching one show! Once it’s over just say i’ll have the glasses back- great job! I would keep the different activities up while wearing and that may help to the point that she just wears them!

My daughter was 5 when she started wearing glasses. She is far sighted. I thanked the pandemic for bringing her to the eye doctor. I was home when she was doing homework, learning to read and noticed she was always moving her head back and forth. I don't think I would have noticed as early if I had not been home with her. But anyway, it took her more than 1 year before she felt she needed them, where she goes and grab her glasses. So be patient, you daughter will get there. you should probably play games where he has to see something far... and she might have more fun with glasses on?

My son started wearing glasses at 2.5. It took about two weeks before something clicked and he was willing to wear them all day. We worked our way up by wearing a little at a time. He is very very nearsighted so I think he finally realized how much better he could see. But I remember thinking he would never wear them!! I remember reading books with characters with glasses, talking about other family members, favorite characters, etc who wear glasses and things like that.

My newly 3 yo DD just got her first pair of glasses. Does anyone have any tips to help her get used to wearing them full time? She complains about how they feel even though they're super flexible - I think they fit fine but it's a transition for her.

We've been aiming to wear them for longer and longer periods of the day but I haven't seen much difference in how she feels about it yet.

Not the same symptoms, but when I expressed concerns about early puberty to my pediatrician around this age (my worry was body odor/a need for deodorant), she told me they really only worry if there are multiple signs. Sounds like she just has a little extra body fat, but definitely worth running by your pediatrician for reassurance. Also notable to me was that in this day and age, once they hit 8 years old, puberty signs really aren't considered "early" any more - this surprised me a lot.

@Dynamite: oh I did not know that and he has had COVID. I was actually going to mention diabetes at his next well visit if as he has always been my one kid prone to extreme HANGER and food/sugar related mood swings that seem to be getting worse as he gets older. I hadn’t yet emailed his pediatrician because he hasn’t thrown up since I posted this but he’s also been sort of checking himself more and not eating anything sweet right after dinner, but I will now! Thanks.

@HappyBaker: Corn syrup is okay for me, just the high fructose corn syrup is bad, but also depends on how sensitive a person is.

Probably far fetched but depending on what he's eating could be fructose malabsorption? Vomiting can be a symptom but it presents in a variety of ways. High fructose corn syrup is in so much stuff and high-fructose foods include 'healthy' foods like watermelon and apples. I ended up with this lovely issue after a bad virus a couple years ago.

@bhbee: thanks yea I think I’ll shoot his ped an email. I myself also get nauseous if I over indulge but for him he doesn’t seem to feel sick at all until it’s coming out of him ha. I don’t think it could be gluten/celiac because he eats so much of that stuff in daily life, like I’d think he’d be way more frequently sick if that were the case but I’ll definitely look into that!

This seems like something worth talking to your doctor about. I have a sensitive stomach kid who often has to stop eating earlier than others (especially for sweets) but it’s more nausea than actual vomiting (since she has good self control - maybe otherwise she would).

Any chance it could be gluten/celiac? It doesn’t always manifest as lower GI, it can just be nausea/vomiting. And it sneaks into so many things.

DS is 7 and recently has been vomiting kind of frequently. It seems to happen when he has sweets, so at first we assumed he was overeating / making himself sick by eating way past the point of being full. The last two times it’s happened though he hasn’t had much at all and forcefully vomited everything in his belly a few hours later. Are some kids just super sensitive to extra sugar in this way? There hasn’t been one food consistent the whole time so I don’t think it’s an allergy, unless it’s a random ingredient in lots of things!

Thanks for the sympathy, ladies. I felt like a horrible person because I was reacting to my son as if he was coughing on purpose to annoy me. I could tell myself he wasn't but then after a coughing fit I'd still lose my cool. UGH! Thankfully he's on the mend so the rage is subsiding - until the next cold.

So it's not a cough...but my 7 year old has chronic allergy issues and she's ALWAYS sniffling. The first year of the pandemic when she was basically home nonstop, I didn't think much of it since I knew she hadn't picked anything up (and even if she had, it at least wouldn't have changed our school/childcare situation since I was homeschooling). But once she went back to school and I had to think through if it's her "normal" stuffiness or a "getting sick" stuffiness, it became more of a thing. And we spent more money in covid tests than I even want to think about to be sure we could send her in to school and to be ready for the phone call from school when someone thought she was extra sniffly and needed to come home. We finally found an allergy med regimen that seems to be working, so I'm not second guessing it quite as much - fingers crossed it keeps working.

100%. So many feelings like what does this mean for child care, are you going down? Do you have a fever? Was that a fluke cough? Who have we seen recently? When should we test again? do you have a tickle, drink some water! Then my toddler thinks it’s funny to fake cough because he’s learned how and the 7 year old encourages it and I just want to lose it.

Yes! But I've been like that since DS was a baby (and he's 9 now!). He had bad reflux and some feeding issues, so a bad cough meant choking and/or puking. He would also have a really hard time sleeping with a cough, so I got used to being on alert and not getting enough sleep if he had a cough. Now when my 2 year old coughs, I get so anxious, even though she sleeps through way more coughing than I even could and has no reflux issues.

I definitely get triggered by it, but it’s less rage than anxiety/panic. My daughter nearly died at birth because her lungs weren’t strong enough and then a few months later Covid broke out, so probably some PTSD there. I do get ragey when other people cough near my kid though. 😅

She’s vaccinated now (FINALLY) so I’m more confident that Covid wouldn’t kill her, but after two years of constant vigilance and that anxiety is just so ingrained now.

YES, all coughs make me feel rage-y. I felt this way before covid though, so it's not really the anxiety part, just the micro-rage. (Although we've spent so much of the past 6 months being ill in one form or another any coughs or runny noses definitely make me feel dread).

I've explained this to my husband before and he thinks I am crazy, but I believe it's called misophonia? Like when people get angry at the sound of other people chewing? It makes me feel really guilty because I know no one is coughing on purpose and my response is completely irrational but it drives me up a wall.

My 7 year old has a bad cough right now and it is going to send me into a nervous breakdown. Every single cough just sets me on edge. We’ve tested twice and it’s not Covid. He can continue camp so it’s not like early days where a cough meant no child care for 2 weeks. But I think I’ve got some post-Covid trauma in the form of a tiny anxiety-rage whenever my kids cough. Just wondering if anyone else feels this way.
