@agold: their toys are so adorable! So far we only own teethers and rattles from them but my eye is on that cash register and tool box!

Scooter with cute helmet (look at nutcase size XS)
Kitchen add ons (tea set and cupcakes are a huge hit over here) OR my 4yo just discovered a melissa and doug grill set that he was obsessed with.
A toy vacuum (there’s a realistic dyson one that really works)
A nice doll house (pb kids has some and Target has the one by chip and Joanna Gaines)
My son got a toy cash register around that age and he still loves it. If you have room a shopping cart would be great too (we are in an apt so that’s a no go)
Stroller or carrier for baby doll
Agree with others in LEGO duplos.
And a tent. We have one that looks like a castle and my son loves it. We have to take it down because of space so when he remembers it I set it up and it’s like new again. The way he uses it has changed over the years.

I also think a scooter is a great gift for a 2 year old! I got my daughter the globber scooter over the micro mini after much consideration. But I did get her a micro mini helmet that is adorable .Its a great gift!

@Mrsbells: I love bannor toys so much! Does your child like that cash register? And that little wooden holder for the blocks is so great, I want one!

@josina: My DD has two versions of this and also two versions of Daisy. She has been playing with them since she was two. She is now about to turn four. Probably her all time favorite toy.

Micro mini scooter was a big hit here - especially if both kids have them. We love magformers for building. They just got a fun set that has house pieces like balconies and windows. At 2 there’s only so much they can do alone with any of the magnet builders but my almost 7yo still likes them so lots of longevity!

This was also super popular for a long time at our house. At 2 probably just screwing in randomly but patterns as they get older.

https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/blocks-manipulatives/fine-motor-development/create-design-drill-kit/p/PP507/

Also a wooden or non breakable tea set? My oldest loved this one at 2 (or something very similar): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P80X8W4/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_t1_9H9pCb6C8CRPS

I agree with duplos or magnatiles.

@LadyDi: That's cute but we're not big coffee drinkers (DH actually just quit!) but I added the similar M&D ice cream set, she would probably love that!
@Mama Bird: Hair clips is a good idea, right now she'd rip them out, but you're right that she can grow into them. Thanks!
@LemonJack: Magnatiles is on my list as a possiblity. Love your other ideas too... we have the little people house, and a table/chair set that I've really been wanting to paint chalkboard on the top of! And we have a similar chair that DS got at that age. Its so much harder coming up with ideas for LO2!
@hitchhiker: We have some duplos, but maybe a girly set with more of the figures she'd like - off to shop!

How about building toys? My girls love magnatiles, duplos, regular blocks...you name it. My YDD (19 months) got a few really cute duplo sets for Christmas, and both she and her older sister play with them often.

Other popular toys around here:

Little Tikes slide

Toddler dollhouse:
https://fisher-price.mattel.com/shop/en-us/fp/top-holiday-toy-list/little-people-surprise-sounds-home-dfn41

-table and chairs from ikea: We painted it a fun color, put some blackboard paint on the top, and made it an art table:
https://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/50178411/

IKEA also has an inexpensive easel.

Another super popular item around here is the Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair. I know they’re expensive, but it gets used daily. We got ours as a hand me down, but I would pay full price for a new one if we needed to. We have it in our living room next to a bookshelf, and our kids will often sit in it “reading” books.

Maybe some nice hair clips? I think DD1 was a bit young for that at two (she kept pulling everything out of her hair), but she grew into liking hair clips sometime between 2 and 3.

I am really stumped on what to get my almost-2 year old DD for her upcoming birthday. (I've already gone through all the old board posts and blog tips).

Any really great suggestions or gifts your 2 year old loved?

Her favorites from Christmas are the Melissa & Doug Jenna doll, a nursery set, and a pretend makeup kit/vanity.
She loves dolls but has a ton already. We already have a mini trampoline and a kitchen.

Would love any and all ideas!

Hmm for us it was the nap. She stopped napping a few months before she turned 3 and ever since she passes out within 5-10 minutes at 8pm.

My first dropped the nap at 2.5 and it cut the bedtime awake time from 30-60 minutes down to 5-15 and moved bedtime an hour earlier. Downside....no more naps.

Thanks again, mamas!

Have you tried moving her bedtime later?

Is she still napping? My daughter dropped her nap at 3.5 and it helped sleep at night much better

Oh mama. Toddler bedtime battles might be one of the most frustrating.

Here's what has worked with us in the past (we've had several different phases of bedtime battles):

-We leave the door open at bedtime otherwise she freaks the hell out. She knows that if she leaves her bedroom, she will get her binky taken away. You can use any lovey, stuffy, etc. With DD the first time was hell, but after that she knew we meant it.

-We break out the magnesium oil and spray it on her feet. We call it "magic sleep spray". Magnesium is essential to healthy sleep.

-Diffuse lavender oil, sprinkle it on a corner of the sheets, or toss a few drops into the humidifier.

-Make a big "nest" out of several blankets piled up on top of DD. I make a big show out of it, tuck them in underneath her body and call her my baby bird. She loves the nest and doesn't want to leave it or ruin it by moving. I also think the weight of the blankets helps calm her down. I peel a couple blankets off her when I go to bed.

-Warm Epsom salt bath before bed time. Heating their little bodies up a little and then cooling them down makes them sleepy. Epsom salts are a good way to get some magnesium into their systems.

-Do a general review of what is going on the hour or so before bedtime. What is the lighting like? Is it dim and relaxing or bright and stimulating? What is the noise level like? What is being eaten and drank? Is the TV on? I like to review all these things and try to figure out what habits and routines I can tweak.

Good luck mama!

@kce56: Not sure about the diaper thing but sixes are tight on my two year old so maybe your dd thinks they’re too small? Maybe pull-ups are bigger? We haven’t gotten to that stage yet ...

Regarding the sleep issues my friend swears by essential oils on the bottom of her kids’ feet. Maybe that and sticking to a very predictable routine will help her wind down.

@gingerbebe: I think I said this before but I love your pop up tent idea so much I’ve recommended it to three other people! And we will be getting one when it’s time for a toddler bed.

When bedtime gets out of control, we try a “reset” with 3ish days of melatonin. I get the Ozzzz brand on Amazon. They usually help my son fall asleep in 10-15 minutes.
