DS has always been an early riser. Around that age he went through a couple months of rising even earlier. It did pass but was so hard at the time.

No advice, but it is hard having an early riser, especially if your not a morning person.

Lo1 has always been an early riser. He did the 4 or 5 an thing from 14-18 months and it was summer and some how he was waking up before the sun. It was tough. He's now sleeping until about 6 most days and it's amazing... Feel you on the time change. It's so hard. On 4am mornings i felt like i head head a whole day by the time the nanny come at 9...

18 month regression could definitely be a factor, but I think overtiredness is compounding things. I might try adding a short catnap (like 45 minutes?) in the morning around 10am and then push his PM nap to 230pm, capping it at 430pm. Then push his bedtime to 730pm or 8pm (since we have daylight savings anyway) and hope he sleeps until 6am.

Maybe he still needs a morning nap, to be honest.

@mfa_lady: I was afraid of that! lol. I've heard there's an 18-month regression, so my gut is starting to tell me that we might just need to wait it out, cross our fingers and drink lots of coffee.

@Alba4: I leave the house at 6:45 too, so I'm not hoping for a magic 8am wakeup, but I'd happily take 5:30! Nice to know I'm not alone in this birthing a morning person thing.

Both of my kids are early risers and are usually up by 5:30. I think it’s just their nature (and partly due to my conditioning since I’m a teacher and we leave the house at 6:45 am). If my kids sleep to 6 it is such a gift!

Sorry, it stinks!

This may not be a super helpful answer, but....my oldest daughter did this from about 19-22 months. She decided to start sleeping until 6 or 7 again the night after her baby sister was born (not even joking). It sounds like you're doing everything right--in my experience, it's just a developmental thing. Hang in there!

Hello bees! I've been avidly following this site since I found out I was pregnant with my LO, but this is my first time actually reaching out and seeking the collective infinite wisdom of the hive.

My son is a happy, active nearly 18-month-old boy. So happy and active that he has decided that he's ready to start his day early... too early. Like between 4 and 5 am early.

He wakes up happy and mostly just chats to himself and roams around his crib. We give him until 6 am before getting him, but in that time he almost never falls back asleep. We have no problems with other aspects of his sleep: He falls asleep on his own at 7 pm without issue and takes one twoish hour nap at 1 pm every day, also without any protest.

We feel like we've tried everything - putting him to bed later, putting him to bed earlier, regular checks in ten-minute intervals, wake-to-sleep, just plain ignoring him.... Nothing seems to have worked. And with daylight savings ending on Sunday, we're worried it's only going to get worse.

Help, bees! We're so tired and our daycare provider is sick of dealing with a cranky overtired toddler.
