How close is he to crawling/walking, etc?

I would look at things like a wagon, cozy coupe, or a bike he can ride on and you can push. All of those things can be used in a few months once sitting up well.

I guess, I would look for gear that can be used in the next 5 months (ages 5 months to 10 months) and then you will get more new stuff for first birthday. You dont' want to get a bunch of "baby" stuff (like bouncers/jumpers) when he's going to be mobile soon!

@Amelieisme: soft books with noises in them like crinkly noises or squeakers; floor mirror; toys you can put in and take out - like a fish bowl with toys to put into it and take out of it; music table - with legs that come off so it can be on the floor with him.

@sorrycharlie: I don't really care if its a toy or gear...just something that will be used :) How old is your LO? Is the Laugh and Learn home for an older child?

@Smurfette: Not sure what you mean...do you have a link?

@London Mama: I did think of a bouncer, but not sure we have a good door frame to hang one on. Hmmm...

My MIL wants me to tell her what to buy for Christmas (which I'm totally on board with), but I'm not sure what he needs. My mother is going to buy him a high chair and I found a good deal on an activity center so I will be giving him that. Any ideas on a bigger gift that he might need in the near future?

I was just reading some really great info about breastfeeding troubles ~4 months and thought it might be helpful: http://mostgladly.typepad.com/cj/2007/09/its-my-party-an.html

I remember Finn doing that around that age...chances are it is NOT your supply.

My 12 week old does this every once in a while, and it's usually because she needs to be burped. Sometimes is she's extremely fussy and just won't calm down because she has a lot of gas in her tummy, I give her Mylicon drops. That gets her to burp and calm down so we can continue nursing.

It's still happening, and my supply may have adjusted accordingly, but I figure it is better that it match his needs. I think somewhere I read that a BF baby's intake peaks around 4 months and then levels off. As long as you're still seeing the normal "outputs" I probably wouldn't worry.

My LO is the same way this week! I assume it's a nursing strike, teething, or because she just got her 4-month shots. She'll latch, sucks once, the pull off. It's so heartbreaking because I know she needs to eat! Eventually she gets hungry enough to eat.

Around 4-5 months my LO got super interested in the world around her but she was also becoming an efficient little eater. Sometimes she'd only spend a couple minutes and then want to go play. It was kind of annoying but I just fed her when she was less distracted or in little bursts. I also introduced a spoon to her, which might have been a mistake but we would put pumped milk on the spoon and since that was new and interesting she would focus and eat a ton.

Same here, and just about the same age! I think for us it's mostly a distraction thing -- like, he knows he needs to eat, but doesn't have the patience for it. I switch sides with him more often, which seems to pacify him a bit.

it could just be a nursing strike -- it happens to a lot of women. i went through it with charlie where he didn't want to have anything to do with my boobs for a little while. but he eventually came around. hope that's the case for you too!

My lo will be 5 months this Saturday and over the last 24 hours he has been fussing at my breasts on both sides. He used to only prefer the right side and pull off on the left. Now he will latch suck for a couple of seconds and then complain and then pull off and cry.

Has this happened to anyone? Is this a possible nursing strike or has my supply decreased as well?

I am so worried now.
