@Ajsmommy: guess who woke up with a tooth popped through her gums this morning?! So true that you never know until it's over, but it looks like teething is at least part of the puzzle for us. Popping a tooth + crawling = sleepless week! I hope your lo has been better :)

@ms.janedoe: sounds similar! I'm wondering exactly why DO babies need teeth????? Lol there's so much already going on that the teething should wait! Ha!

@avivoca: ughhhh fighting the sleep is the worst. It breaks my heart when she looks so tired but won't sleep

@Cherrybee: alas, you're right there's so much going on w her it's a crap shoot to know exactly what one thing it is......

@Ajsmommy: I'm pretty sure baby sleep will be the death of me!! Your situation certainly sounds like teething - although at that age your LO will be working on so much developmentally, especially gross motor skills like crawling, it could be anything or indeed a combination. You will probably only know what it is after the event - that's my experience!!! Right now it's pulling-up in our household. My 11 month old stands in her cot for an hour every night crying, rubbing her eyes, completely exhausted, but every time I go in to lie her down she flips over and stands up again!!!!

@T-Mom: haha yea. i agree with the principle of it, but think it could just as easily be explained as "LO is working on something really big? expect disruptions!" and obviously every baby does things at a different pace.

@Ajsmommy: ugh, well hopefully we'll both be out of this stretch soon - and we'll probably never know exactly what caused it (unless of course that magical tooth pops up overnight, haha!) :)

@Ajsmommy: So just commenting about your response JoJoGirl. This site has a bunch of lurkers who will read and won't respond. They might be new to the site and don't feel comfortable yet to post. Also, there's other people, like me, who read but can't respond. Busy with work or I'm on my phone and internet is spotty or even I want to think about my response before I post. I tell myself to return back to the thread but with life, I often forget. (Then add in my horrible memory. Yeah, not good.) You can always bump the thread by posting on the thread again to see if you can get a new fresh set of eyes on it and sometimes that person who forgot to post will see it and comment. With this site and how it's laid out, sometimes you remind people to 'look here.'

If you look on the threads I create, you'll see that I'll make comments like 'Anyone else [insert question]?' all the time. If you don't want to do that, simply replying to someone's comment will bump the thread, too.

@Ajsmommy: That sounds like teething to me. My LO is working on like three teeth, and I never see buds until they are really close to breaking through the surface. But sleep is a nightmare until they come out. So much thrashing and fighting sleep.

@Ajsmommy: We've kind if been in the same boat the last week or so. LO is 8 months on the 6th, and has been doing pretty good in the sleep department since we sleep trained at 6 months. The last week though, she's been having eay wakings (like an hour after being out down), and another 1-3 at night before I get her and bring her in bed around 4:30.

We also had the same zero interest in food! I'm thiiinkkng it's teething related, but don't see anything yet. Good luck!

@T-Mom: Yes, I've heard of the wonder weeks but honestly I haven't really looked into them.... maybe I should!!

@Mamaof2: We offer her frozen wash cloths and she loves them. she's been drooling for months now but still no buds or anything.. but I'll keep my eye on it

@oliviaoblivia: we can't do a much earlier bedtime.. last night we started at 530 pm... (5:31 to be exact :) ) I get home from work at 415 and pick her up from daycare.. then we feed her, play or bathtime and then she lets us know when she's ready for bedtime... It's usually between 530-7 pm, last night was early b/c she'd had such a bad night the night before :( poor baby
@Pirouette: OMG.. we are sooo in the same boat!!!! Although my LO is nursing fine... AND she has no desire to crawl yet (thank goodness)

@T-Mom: haha oh i know all about the wonder weeks - but supposedly she's in a sunny phase for the next 45 days! of course, the next ww (in 45 days) supposedly is when they start practicing crawling, so i guess the fact that she's been through that already caused her to go through ww symptoms early too? i know it's not an exact science, but who knows. she could be affected by teeth, tummy, development or all three :)

@Pirouette: what you are describing is what the whole concept of "wonder weeks" is about.. that there are these predictable fussy phases that babies go through, which are tied to milestones they are working on.. and once they master that milestone, they are happy again... that is, until the next fussy phase! :-)

@Ajsmommy: my LO is 6 months and we've had almost the same week as you :( something is clearly bothering her to the point where i can't rely on her to self-soothe. and she's eating WAY less than usual. she'll start to nurse and then pull off like she just can't take it (this is only at night, but i don't nurse during the day). i can tell shes in pain, or at least really uncomfortable, and i suspect it's either her teeth (which have not come through but appear close) or her tummy. However, one other thing to throw into the mix - she's been working all day and night on crawling, and finally has nailed it and we're hoping she'll sleep better now. it was like she couldn't turn her brain off and couldn't stop her limbs from trying to crawl all night and therefore couldn't get herself into a deep sleep.

I really hate not knowing what's wrong, and it's so frustrating never knowing if she's going to sleep or not!

oh and we just started solids last week, so it could be that too, but we're giving her so little it's hard to imagine it's an issue. this kid needs to learn to talk already ;)

So long story short, i feel your pain, and i'm just as clueless as you are haha.

@Ajsmommy: teething occurs "behind the scenes" so just because you don't see anything don't assume it isn't happening!

Sounds exactly like teething to me!

Teething can cause excess drool and in turns causes loose stool - the reason for 3 poops in 1 day

Doesn't want to eat - her gums are probably sore - teething hurts! Offer a cold wet washcloth for her to chew on

Fussy at night? Teething was the worst at night - if you ok with meds try Motrin before bed - it was the ONLY way my kids would sleep during teething.

I suspect a few weeks or even a month from now you will see a tooth bud and say "yep - she WAS teething!!!"

@Ajsmommy: yeah, so many factors that could be going on.. she could definitely be teething at that age, or like you say it could be her tummy. She could be gassy (you could try gas drops?) or it could even be a fussy time due to her development - have you looked into Wonder Weeks? I think that age is right around a developmental leap time.

@T-Mom: My current issue is that she hasn't been able to self soothe to sleep the past two nights... I don't know if it's tummy issues or teething (she's got no teeth yet). She's 7.5 mos. She's been eating solids for about 3 weeks now. She did have 3 poops within the last 24 hours and we haven't introduced anything new BUT last night she didn't eat much for dinner and this morning she didn't want to eat breakfast either.. soo I'm wondering if it's something to do with her tummy???

Weds night I nursed her before bed and she dozed off and then i put her in her crib, she woke up a little and I put in her paci, normally she'll doze back off but Weds she just couldn't.. she was whining and rubbing her eyes and then after about an hour of that she started to cry (and she's not a crier). Anyway she carried on like that for 2 hours until 930 when she fell asleep upright in my arms on my chest. Last night same deal minus the crying.. she was just whining and rubbing her eyes and it was like she just couldn't sleep.......

I'm thinking of not offering her solids tonight and just nursing her to see if that remedies the issue but then I'm concerned she won't be full and will wake up during the night

@avivoca: we have no teeth yet! don't you just wish there was a little buttonon them that we could push and it would tell us what was wrong or what would help them feel better!!

Isis has a webinar (for free!) on early morning wakeups! I think they moved all their webinars to YouTube, but we went through this around 5 months also. I did all the "interventions" that were recommended, but I think at the end, she just needed to grow out of it. 4am is definitely WAY too early to get up for the day, though - would she have fallen back to sleep if you'd left her for longer?

My LO will be 5 months next Tuesday and this week she has started waking up so early. From day 1 she's been a good sleeper, we never really had to train her or anything, she just knew day vs night and would sleep her longest stretches at night. She has basically set her bedtime to be between 530-7 pm and this is pretty constant (minus a few random nights that she'll be up until 8 pm) and she usually wakes up once during the night to eat (usually between 1-3) and then would go back to sleep until 430-5 am. This was perfect for us!! But this past week her wake times have been 4:02 am, 3:50 am and today 3:25 am. Now I can do the 430 shuffle but before 4 am????? No can do.

Yesterday and today I let her be awake in her crib and she was just talking away until I got her out yesterday at 445 am (so she'd been laying there talking for about an hour) and started my day. This morning when she woke at 325 I nursed her b/c her last feed was 930 pm (which is NOT normal) and I thought maybe she'd go back to sleep but once done she was wide awake so I put her back in her crib until her daddy got her out at 4 am.

Is this normal? Will she go back to sleeping longer? Is there something I should do to encourage her to sleep a little longer?? Is letting her lay there in her crib happily talking the right thing to do??

Any advice is appreciated!!!
