What worked with her was a combination of things. We started letting her play her tablet on the potty while she "tried poopin." That got her to sit still long enough to have it actually be a possibility. The other trick I think someone suggested here and I think was key. After every meal we had her get up and play actively for about 10 min. Then we had her sit on the potty with her tablet and try. Sometimes for a long time. Since we started that, something clicked and now she's great about telling us she needs to poop. Thoughts:</p> <p>1) The book "Oh Crap Potty Training" says that almost all kids try to hide for pooping. It is a great signal for us when LO starts running around trying to "hide under the table or playground structure or go in different room or around the corner. When he does that, its decently clear.</p> <p>2) if that happens, we IMMEDIATELY grab him and run him to the potty telling him "poop time, poop time, poop goes in the potty!" We also sometimes have him "race" us. We dont bother asking if he has to poop.... he will always say no.</p> <p>3) About 10-15 minutes after a meal, we have him sit on the potty with some favorite books (stashed in the bathroom, so he only gets them on the potty) and use a stool to prop up his feet. Then we try to give him privacy, a suggestion from the OCPT book. If it's going slowly, we start talking about poop and pushing / squeezing and making funny faces. I would totally be willing to let her wear one for pooping and I can't believe she would rather poop in her underwear than in a pull-up, but apparently that's the case! If she does, would you be willing to let her have a pull up or diaper just for poop for a while? We are still in that stage with my son, and honestly im ok with it. He knows he needs to go, asks for a pull up, we clean him up and it’s back in underwear afterwards. He has had one poop accident I can remember since we went to underwear full time except for sleep a year ago. She's doing great with pee but poop is harder. I agree that a stool that allows her to sort of squat might help, or something to put her feet on so she feels grounded (assuming you are using a real toilet). We used to also grab a bunch of books and sit and read until he went. We also got a stool with a handle so he could mimic squatting on the toilet. We were trying to take a laid-back approach to potty training (which worked with my now 5 yo), but we switched to underwear and so far, she has had no pee accidents (even overnight!), but has been very uneven with poop.</p> <p>She poops on the potty once in a while, but mostly has accidents - at daycare and at home. We have tried bribes (the kid wants to get a pedicure—seriously), but she just isn't getting the hang of it. This morning she pooped in her underwear about 15 minutes after peeing on the potty. She was just playing and didn't say anything until my husband discovered it. I can't tell if her issue is physical or fear, but when we ask she just says "pooping on the potty is too hard." Do we just wait it out? Thankfully the poop thing was quite rare, and he has grown out of the peeing, mostly.</p> <p>This is why I was so glad we got the changing pad that we could wipe down. Every single time.
