Yep, till 15 weeks to increase blood flow to the uterus and reduceiscarriage risk. Also for morning sickness but I'll be honest, it didn't touch that.

I started going to acupuncture the month I got my BFP, and I've been going about once a month since (I'm now 19 weeks). Early in my first trimester, I had some anxiety-inducing spotting so I went for that purpose. Now I've mostly been going for relaxation and a guaranteed nap when I'm there :)

I did it while TTC and through IVF. I continued through my first trimester. I was so worried about miscarriage that I didn't want to change anything that contributed to the BFP. I asked my acupuncturist how long I should continue and she said that through the first trimester was the minimum that she recommended.

I didn't. My last session was the day after the embryo transfer. Once I found out five days later that I was pregnant, it never even occurred to me to keep going! Sounds like a nice idea, though. I always felt so relaxed afterwards.

I've done accupuncture for a long time prior to getting pregnant (I've had a lot of success treating osteoarthritis in my knees), and I've been meaning to get back since getting pregnant, but life has been so crazy!

My acupuncturist said that they can have success treating morning sickness, sciatic nerve pain, and a bunch of other not-so-nice pregnancy symptoms.

I also love having a bit of time that is just for me- it is so relaxing!

@Leialou: I've been going to acupuncture for 3.5 months or so and during this time I found out about my blocked tube. Acupuncture can't help with that unfortunately, but I'm still continuing on with treatment once a week prior to/throughout my upcoming IVF because it can help with increased blood flow to the uterus - always a good thing for TTC! In addition, acupuncture can mediate the side effects from hormone medications. My acupuncturist also recommended Traditional Chinese Medicine (herbs) for my husband who has low morphology, but not actual acupuncture for him.

Hello ladies, I just wanted to give you all a quick update. I went to my acupuncturist and he told me that I had a yang deficiency. After telling him about my pcos and thyroid issues, he told me to cut down on my carbs. He asked me when my last period was and gave me a bunch of days to come for treatment.

On my third treatment, I noticed I had quite a bit of cervical mucus. I asked him when he thought I'd ovulate and he said either yesterday, today or tomorrow (I didn't tell him a out the cm). Then he said in two weeks I should get my period. Well, 13 days have passed and I just got my period! I am so thrilled. I also lost 7 lbs. I don't see him for another two weeks, but I sure will hug him when I do. I haven't had a period since February when I stopped taking hormone treatment.

In two weeks I see my endo to check y thyroid levels and if he says everything is ok, then we will start ttc!

I am so excited. Thanks for all your support!

I've been going to acupuncture once a week since December. I strongly believe it has helped with regulating my cycles. When I went off the pill in October I didn't get my period until one week after I started acupuncture and my cycle has been getting shorter and I've been ovulating earlier since I started.

I definitely think it'll help to regulate your cycles as well. My acupuncturist charges $70 for an hour.

Also - I figured out that you can use HSA funds to pay for acupuncture if you have a letter from a physician stating that you had a medical indication for going, which I think most OBs would be more than willing to write for you.

The acupuncturist I was going to had been a physician in China, she told me that (at least when she trained) all physicians there were trained in both traditional and western medicine and they can choose their "track". She had actually done the western medicine track and had been a cardiologist, but didn't want to repeat the residency and fellowship once she came to the US. She was awesome. I went to another acupuncturist who was not a doctor, there are just different ways to get your training.

I was going to acupuncture while we were TTC, I loved it! I lived in NYC, my insurance did not cover any of it but because she was somehow affiliated with the hospital I worked at, she gave a discount to the residents who would come to see her so I paid $200 for the first visit, $100 for following visits. I went about 2-3 x per month for 3 months but didn't get my BFP and couldn't afford it anymore. Now I live in Denver, CO and recently went to acupuncture with a woman who helped my sister get pregnant after 2 1/2 years of trying, it cost $80 for the first visit with her and $60 for each visit after that.

It didn't work for me (I did get my BFP but not anywhere near the time I had acupuncture) but it did work for my sister and other people I know. I highly recommend giving it a try. I would ask around for recommendations if you know anybody who has gone. When I was TTC, she recommended coming in as early in my cycle as possible, and coming in weekly for the first 2-3 weeks in the cycle. The acupuncturist you choose will have recommendations for when and how often you should go in.

I went got acupuncture for my migraines, she was a dr. It cost $100 and I would go a couple of times a week. It didn't help me, so I just had to stop going. I loved it, it was soooo relaxing, but not worth the money since it wasn't working.

most licensed acupuncturists are not medical doctors (M.D.s). the ones i've seen have a masters in oriental medicine (MSOM) and have the L.Ac. abbreviation following their name.

the cost of acupuncture can vary greatly. i first went to a medical spa for acupuncture treatment that cost $90 for a 30-minute session. then i found a no-frills acupuncture clinic that cost $90 for an hour session. i did a combination of acupuncture, electroacupuncture, herbal therapy and moxibustion when I was TTC on a weekly basis. i definitely think it helped regulate my cycle.

if you have a flexible savings account through your employer - you can get all your acupuncture expenses reimbursed through an FSA. that's what i did. good luck.
