@Mrs.KMM: That's great to hear! Congratulations! I always wonder if my fertility issues would be passed on to a baby girl. My mom had no issues conceiving though, so apparently infertility just comes out of nowhere :bummed:

@sweetooth: Nope (thankfully)! I was worried it would be. She wouldn't ovulate on her own (started right into IF treatment with #2 and #3). I'm currently pregnant with our first after 4 months of trying (and really, it was our first month of being really dedicated with our timing).

@Mrs.KMM: Thank you! And wow - you really never know how long it can take. Was your fertility similar to your mom's?

Just wanted to follow-up on this thread and share some good news :) Yesterday I got the call that our beta is positive! 457! It was our 2nd IUI with injectibles. Thank you all for your support, advice, and guidance. Here's to doubling betas, a boring/wonderful 9 months and a summer baby :)

@jmarionsmith: I would return to this thread during my cycles to remind myself that it took you two IUI cycles, but you did get pregnant again. Hope you're snuggling your little one in your arms now!

@GreenThumb: @Jenn23: @sweetooth: oooh, anymore room on the boat? I was 32 when we started trying and turn 35 by the end of the year and still not pregnant. We're doing IVF after my next cycle, and honestly, I'm HOPING for twins so that we can be back on our timeline of 2 kids by now and I dont want to risk it taking forever again. And then we'll just see what happens with a having 3rd.

@Jenn23: @GreenThumb: Make some room in that boat for me! I was also 32 when we started trying for #1. Had our son just after turning 35. And now we're trying again for #2 with the hopes that it doesn't take several years to get there. I'd be waiting a little while longer between kids if I was younger AND if I didn't learn the first time around that it can take a LONG time to get pregnant.

@ShootingStar: Still no period? I got mine back at 4 months post partum. But I had weaned completely at 3 months. I am surprisingly ready to be pregnant again, but I also just have no clue how long it could take to get there. I know what you mean about enjoying our little ones for a while - it's a super enjoyable age right now!

@GreenThumb: I know what you mean about stories of second babies being a surprise. I love those stories. But I also like having a plan in place. A pathway to our dreams of a family of 4. I hope you get the family you pictured and that this time of infertility will fade away someday. I also think that waiting for the moment where you feel ready to be pregnant again, may not happen. At least not for me. So jumping back in is kind of the best we can do! Still sending lots of :bfp: positivity your way!

@GreenThumb: I feel the same way as you! Started trying at 32 right after marriage, but didn't have my son until 35 and now I'm a month away from 37 so time isn't on my side. Feels very rushed. If I were younger, we'd be waiting. So I hate that both my age and infertility are pushing me to have the 2nd child we want sooner. But such is life I guess!

@sweetooth: I think it is great that you have a plan to talk to your RE. I know I felt better after we had a plan in place even though it was a few months down the road at the time. There are so many stories of that second baby being a surprise, which of course would be wonderful, but at least you know that your treatment worked for you and so you can have greater confidence that it will work again if you need it!

I also have to admit that I don't exactly feel ready to be pregnant again or have another baby, but I realize that I didn't want to wait too much longer. It is tough that because I got married a little later and then had to deal with IF that it feels like a rush, but I think these few years of IF difficulty will hopefully be behind me soon and I'll have the family I always pictured. I hope you will, too!

I'm pretty sure we'll have to go back to the RE too. I didn't ovulate on my own for months before conceiving, and I still haven't gotten my period back, even though we've fully weaned. I'm so amazed you guys are ready for another baby! D has gotten to a really enjoyable age and is STTN and I feel like I just want to enjoy having it a little easier for a while :). I also kinda hated pregnancy, lol.

But I'm the same age you are and I want to have our next baby at 37 so we can't wait forever.

We planned to go back to the RE after the new year, however we surprisingly got pregnant right around his 1st birthday while NTNP! Good luck

Thank you for sharing and also for giving me a heads up of what may come my way, with regards to testing. I'm returning to the same RE, same office, etc. So we'll see what happens. I had a hysteroscopy the first time around, they found some sort of fibroid on my saline sonogram. I hope I don't have to have another procedure like that. But I'm going to keep an open mind because it may have helped the first time around.

@sweetooth: with the first we just did Clomid with TI. the 4th cycle worked. (I had two chemicals before success each time.) this time Clomid just destroyed my lining and all our IUIs failed one way or another. then I went off Clomid because we were moving and would be changing REs, and after a couple months of just metformin we got lucky. I'm a pretty big case of "who the heck knows". we were talking about IVF as a next step when we lived in MA and it would have been covered (since I responded well to clomid they were not into doing injectibles).

the impression I got on testing was that over a year required new tests. they redid all the basic stuff - ultrasounds, CD3 bloodwork, repeat loss panel for my specific case. I had karyotyping done for me and DH the first time and that obviously doesn't change over time. I did not have another HSG - maybe because my first was normal - but they wanted a hysteroscopy instead. the endometrial biopsy they did there ended up showing potential for endometritis - chronic inflammation of the lining - which is treated with heavy antibiotics, so that took extra time because I couldn't start treatment until that was over. all in it took about 2 months I'd say. but, more complicated in my case due to repeat loss issues (by the time we started I'd had 3 chemicals). it may have also been different switching doctors, who not only wanted to use their own labs but had different ideas about treatment. I hope in your case it goes more smoothly!

@bhbee: When you said that the same treatment didn't work - what ended up working? (Congrats on 14 weeks!!!)

Did you have to go through all of the tests again? Like the HSG? I hadn't even thought about that, but when I made the appointment she asked how long it had been since I was there. And I was like, well - I have an 8 month old, and I haven't been in since you helped me conceive the first time! So it's been over a year and a half. She mentioned that there may be additional testing and that kind of zinged me. How long did the testing take the second time around, and what did it include for you?

@travelgirl1: Having the appointment does help relieve the anxiety a bit, but you're right about dealing with the feelings of having to return to the doctor. I know we could try on our own for a few more months, but I don't know that I have it in me. Especially with an unexplained diagnosis. Sometimes I think my diagnosis is that we just need that assistance to get things to connect in there. And the progesterone to help things stay put. (very technical diagnosis, right? :) )

Thank you for sharing your story and for your kind words.

@tequiero21: That feeling of disappointment takes me right back to how I used to feel when we were TTC #1. It does help to have my little guy now, his smile helps me snap back to reality and not get too consumed with the sad feelings. We'll be at 9 months in August - unless we get our own little med-free miracle this month.
