Go to social media, especially Twitter. Most airlines are very responsive to this, especially if you have a good story to go with it, like going to a wedding, seeing a friend you haven't seen in 10 years, visiting an ill relative, taking babymoon, mommy-brain, etc. If you can seem appealing and sympathetic, you may get a better answer.
Good luck!

@hummusgirl: Exactly....within 24 hours it's way more affordable, however you're totally at the mercy of availability on the flight right beforehand. It used to be that you could stand-by for an earlier flight on the same day for for free (ahh, the good old days!), but it IS nice to be confirmed with that $50 fee. Anyway, good luck to @winter_wonder: with your flight change!

Ugh, that sucks, I've been there. There are two airports in my hometown and one time I went to the wrong one and didn't realize until I got to the counter to get my ticket. There was no time to travel to the other one. I was supposed to be going to see my BF (now DH) for the first time in months and I was so upset I just started bawling. The ticket guy was very alarmed and immediately figured out how to book me on another flight in the airport I mistakenly went to and didn't charge me anything.

Moral of the story -- maybe try crying and they'll take pity on you? ;-) But seriously I would definitely try again, maybe multiple times, to try and see if you can find someone to budge for you! I hope you can work it out :goodluck:

@wheres_c: It's the right city but wrong time. I'm getting in at 12 am (not pm like I thought).

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! I'l try calling my cc company, the airlines again, etc. If all else fails I'll see if I can make a change 24 hours in advance or look at stand by options.

Never a dull moment..... :silly:

You could also try calling the airline again and see if you get a different response.

This exact same thing happened to DH once, and I tried to call the airline and was told nothing could be done. DH called from work the same day before he knew I called and was told the same thing. We even had a travel agent try to fix it!

Then, the week of the trip, I called again out of desperation (DH would miss a family wedding if I couldn't change the flight!) I explained our mistake, how many times we called, and what the situation was. The new person I got on the phone was incredibly helpful and changed it without any problem. I'm not sure if it was easier to change because it was much closer to the trip so they had extra seats on the other flight, or because the person I spoke with on the phone was more understanding, but I'm so glad I didn't give up and tried the airline again!

Oh no! Yes, I agree with hummus girl. If you can take a chance on doing a same day change, you should be able to change your flight for much less. DH accidentally booked the wrong flight once for work and didn't realize it until he got to the airport 1 day too early to fly. It was $200 to change it because it was 25 hrs before the flight. It would have been $50 if it was within 24 hrs.

I am also an idiot and did this exact thing a couple weeks ago on JetBlue. (I didn't find out until my SIL noticed and said, "Why are you getting in at midnight?" Oops)

I did what @chicalgobee suggested and called the morning of (midnight), and got it changed for a $50 fee. I also called the day before and they were able to tell me that the morning flight had lots of empty seats so I wasn't panicking. If that doesn't work, you might also be able to go to the airport and fly standby. Good luck...I know the feeling :meh:

The only thing I can think of (besides hoping they adjust the flight time and allow you to cancel/rebook!) is that they sometimes let you confirm on a different flight within 24 hours before. You have to pay a fee, but I think it's only $50-$75? It also depends on whether or not they have room on an earlier fight at that point. I know that doesn't help much, but maybe something to keep in the back of your mind? Best of luck!

If we were bringing it in addition to the stroller I totally would have curb side checked the car seat.

@looch: No, at this point I think she will sit pretty well in the seat and stay buckled when we tell her to. We have talked a lot about car safety and I think that will carry over to the plane. Also like I said this trip has already broke our budget so I'm really trying to not buy anything that is not completely necessary and never used again.

I would just use it on the plane if you can. It keeps her and the seat both safer. I always worry that they will toss the seat around and then it will be the same as if it had been in a car accident. We just went ahead and bought a car seat to leave at my parents so we wouldn't have to worry about traveling with one.

Delta did not have a bag for us at least one way, so I was glad we brought our own- it was a big black contractor garbage bag, because we are super classy. I labeled it as a car seat with some neon labels and duct tape. If you won't be flying much I would just do that but practice at home to make sure it fits!
