DDs allergy is to egg whites. The only thing we don't let her have is scrambled or however you would cook it on the stove top. I do separate out the yolk and just cook that for dippy eggs. The only thing she has reacted to is fresh pasta, it was actually a frozen fresh egg noodles. I know I wasn't thinking when I got them! But we allow everything else and she has no reaction. And she has no reaction to hard boiled.

Pancakes and crepes have a LOT of egg and a very short coom time. To me that suggests you're likely to be fine with anything that isn't just egg. Definitely I'd go for pasta, which has a low egg volume. And donuts are cooked as well as pancakes.

My daughter vomited with straight eggs (hard boiled) around age 8mos. We haven't tried again since there was a several hour delay with her second episode of vomiting post-egg consumption, but she's had no problems with any other items with egg in them. We'll try this summer to reintroduce eggs when we can spend the day outside. She's 3yo. Hopefully she's grown out of it.

My dd has an egg allergy and she eats everything that contains eggs except for straight up scrambled eggs, Boiled eggs, fried eggs etc. she can handle very tiny bites of scrambled eggs in fried rice but she’s also only 2 and her I’ve number for egg is very low so hopefully she will outgrow it soon. Good luck. I hate the stress that food allergies cause for my family.

My daughter (2 1/2) is allergic to eggs. She's Ok eating little muffins store-bought where eggs are the 5th ingredients.

You mentioned that you daughter eats all those baked goods. Are they store-bought or homemade?

I have not tried any cookies with my daughter because I read that it has to be cooked for 30-35 min at 350F to cook the egg completely so a cookie to me is not long enough. Now, it might be that the quantities of eggs in it is not that much.

Is she is OK with a pound cake? that's high in egg.
I don't think there's really anything else to do than trying.
I unfortunately gave some mac and cheese (1 tiny tiny bite) to my daughter and it had 4 eggs in it (didn't even think eggs would be in a mac and cheese... but now I know it's more common that I think) and she vomited.
I would give small bites of food (one or two) and wait.
In the case of my daughter, it took her 3h to vomit ....

Good luck.

We usually let her have anything that isn't straight up eggs based on our allergist's recommendations. She gets hives with pure eggs (like scrambled eggs), but has never had a problem with anything else. She eats pasta often, but I'm not home making it and the pasta we use is egg free.

I found this website helpful:

https://www.foodallergyawareness.org/foodallergy/food_allergens-11/egg-28/

I usually go by if eggs are high in the ingredient list or not or if homemade if I'm using more than 2 eggs.

I'm sure it varies by person, but my LO's egg allergy (which presented as hives) didn't have any issue with doughnuts, pasta, baked goods, etc. It was just exposure to actual unmixed egg that did it.

Good Morning! Question for egg allergy moms- if you/your kiddo can tolerate baked eggs, what have you tried?

Back story- my 6 year old can tolerate baked eggs. We've taken it one step further (per Dr's recommendation) from cakes/muffins to cookies, pancakes, and even crepes. However, I'm unsure of things like pasta (boiled) or donuts (fried). I guess it's the cooking process that I'm unsure of. Anyone have any advice or experience with this? TIA!

exactly that Adira said, we gave them different cups and my older LO who has the allergy knows that she's allergic to milk and knows not to drink from younger LO's cup.

Also, we kept our older LO's cup out of reach from my younger LO so that the younger one wouldn't try to drink from her cup so there wouldn't be cross contamination. my older LO can climb up a chair and get her milk from the dinning room table, where my younger one can't get up there

I have two that have different allergies. The oldest is allergic to milk and the youngest is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame.

When my youngest was ready to transition to whole milk, my oldest was about 2.5. I made sure they have very different cups (the youngest uses a straw cup, the oldest uses a sippy cup). And then we were very vocal about what everyone was drinking: "Here's your hemp milk, Xander! Here's your cow's milk, Logan!" I also sat them across the table from each other so they aren't able to reach each other's cups.

Now at 3 and almost 5, they still have very different cups and if I get them the wrong cup, they'll just swap them.

ETA: I also remember saying a lot things like "Xander can't have cow's milk because he's allergic. That's why he has hemp milk." At almost 5, Xander knows he's allergic to milk and he'll even ask "Does that have dairy?" when he's given something new to try.

DS has a dairy allergy. Thank goodness DD does not. But she's about to turn 1 and while I am so ready to be done breastfeeding, I'm a little hesitant to put her on whole milk. The kids have separate sippy cups, but she loves to try and drink his and I'm a little worried about cross-contamination.

Fortunately DS just has digestional issues, nothing anaphylactic. But I still don't want to subject him to cross-contamination if I can help it.

How did you address one kid's allergies vs another?

I'm at 2 weeks of dairy free, due to LO grunting and wheezing at night, stuffed nose, and a face/head/chest rash that I wasn't convinced was normal baby acne. The rash disappeared but nothing else changed that much. Didn't know to check the diaper for mucous! I've started to add dairy back in slowly, especially since it's really hard for me to follow the diet to a tee- I am starving ALL the time!

Second son never had blood in stool but had CRAZY spit up. Like fountains upon fountains. And did have reflux. Zantac once a day didn't help but 3x a day did help (went to pediatric GI doctor). I cut dairy until 7m when his spit up slowed down a bit. I am not sure it made a difference in the end.

With my first, he couldn't sleep because he would just have the worst gas. His diapers became mucousy too but no visible blood and the doctor never actually had them tested. He became noticeably uncomfortable when I would eat meals heavy with dairy and soy so eventually I figured it out.
With my second, his poop turned green and mucousy and had streaks of blood. He went from being an awesome sleeper to a terrible one so I didn't hesitate to cut out the dairy and soy again. We saw one ped in his doctor's practice when I first started noticing the symptoms and he agreed with me. We followed up with his regular doctor who thought it was reflux and we should introduce cereal and if that didn't work, then reflux meds. I ignored his advice and LO started to improve drastically soon after our appointment.

@atoz: I honestly think the dairy thing was mostly in my head. We never had any legitimately suspect diapers or anything, just general crankiness, but the (silent) reflux was unmistakable. We went on to supplement with Gerber Soothe which is low-lactose but not dairy-free and had no bad reactions, either, which made me think it was more reflux than anything.

We were able to wean DS off Prilosec around 6-7 months and have had no issues since, so even if you do need a stronger med, it can be a short-term thing!

My son had colic and reflux and basically screamed all. The. Time. So we did dairy, Zantac, etc and it didn't work. It wasn't until we did 2 weeks on Nutramigen while I was on a total elimination diet and Prevacid (game changer after a rough one week transition) that we saw drastic results. He was off meds by 5.5 months, I started adding everything back into my diet slowly by 6 months, he was supplementing with sensitive formula by 6.5 months and supplementing with regular dairy formula by 7 months. We weaned totally to formula by 10 months. He needed one month on toddler formula (12-13 months) before he could do WCM without rash and runs, but that extra month was all it took. He is 21 months and has no issues with any food except he gets a little diaper rash of he binges on berries.

At three weeks old, my little guy was suddenly SO fussy, he did nothing but cry and sleep. If he wasn't sleeping or nursing he was hysterically crying. His diapers stopped looking the way they should and turned green and/or mucousy. He also projectile vomited a few times but not too often. And he had some eczema as well.

My pediatrician tested his diapers and there was blood so she told me to cut dairy and soy. I didn't notice a real difference in him for about 2 weeks, and then 4 weeks of being dairy/soy free I could really tell it worked. He was so happy and fun. Most of his eczema has cleared up. His diapers still don't look totally normal, but no more blood. It was a LONG 4 weeks, not knowing if it was helping, but I'm so glad I didn't give up. The diet is so easy now and he's so much fun!

I cut it at around 6 weeks. She was always kind of fussy (she never went through the period where they sleep all the time as a newborn), and around 4 weeks, I started noticing mucus in her diaper and it gradually progressed to green and then finally little brown/black blood specks. I actually tried block feeding first for a couple weeks (thinking the mucus and green was due to foremilk/hindmilk imbalance) but when that didn't work, we cut dairy.

Ironically, after a week off dairy, I decided it wasn't doing anything and added it back in, and the day after that, she screamed the whole day and her diapers got terrible and bloody so it was pretty much confirmed. The pedi also tested her diaper at her next appt and there was still blood.

If you cut out dairy while breastfeeding, what made you decide to do it? What, if any, symptoms did your LO have? How long before you noticed if it helped or not?

My 4 week old was diagnosed a week ago with reflux and is up most of the night moaning & groaning, but not crying. Zantac doesn't seem to be doing anything. Aside from the reflux and a few curious-looking diapers (speckled with brown/black streaks) I haven't seen any other food sensitivity symptoms, but I'm going dairy-free all the same to see if it helps. Curious to learn from others' experiences!

I live by MSPI Mom's quick start recipes.
Bought a bread maker and make my own white bread.
Make her brownie recipe for my chocolate fix. http://www.mspimama.com/2011/10/all-new-mspi-mama-and-brownie-too.html?m=1
Break n bake sugar cookies are dairy and soy free (the seasonal themed ones).
McCormick's had a crock pot fiesta chicken spice pack and recipe that is dairy & soy free. I like that you just throw in raw chicken (so minimal prep time) and then I portion it into 2-3 servings and freeze it. Eat it with tortilla chips (have to read the label to avoid veg oil) and avocado.
Bacon and fried egg for breakfast :)

@LAZB: I didn't eat dairy or soy from when LO was 3 months to 13 months. Even now, she still can't eat dairy at 19 months--so most of our meals at home are dairy free. The other girls have good suggestions.

Trader Joe has a ton of dairy free stuff, if you have one near you. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk for milk, the So Delicious brand of coconut coffee creamer and ice cream if I felt like I really needed it--but I preferred popsicles and a lot of popsicles are dairy free.

Any recipe you can make at home (like pancakes, waffles, soups, stews) you can sub almond or coconut milk for regular milk and there's a soy-and-dairy free "butter" you can buy by Earth Balance (in the red tub).

Sandwiches: watch out for deli meats that have casein--a lot of them do. Don't use cheese, but instead use hummus or avocado slices.

snacks: chips and salsa (most tortilla chips are just corn and vegetable oil); hummus and pita;all fruits and veggies; tons of specialty items like the baked peas, crackers, etc from Trader Joe; guacamole, Lara bars. Popcorn.

dessert: You can buy Enjoy Life cookies and even chocolate bars. Lots of places (like Trader Joe) have dairy free chocolate chips for baking. You can make any cake or cookie recipe using the substitutes I already mentioned

Breakfast: Lots of cereals are dairy free. oatmeals, eggs and sausage--basically anything without obvious dairy like cheese.

Dinner: I tend to cook the old standby 1 meat + 2 veggies combos for our dinner, so it's easy to avoid dairy that way. I stay away from most casseroles because they usually call for cans of creamed soup, or cheese, or other stuff like that.

You get used to it! My first 2 months were the hardest and the it was easy-peasy from there.

Trader Joe's has a bunch of dairy free baked goods. They have vegan cookies that are amazing! I had to cut it out completely. Like including as ingredients in things. I'm not gonna lie, it sucks. But I did lose weight! :)
