Every year on our late son’s birthday and anniversary of his death we make sure to spend the day with at least one fun activity. We’ve brought the kids to the zoo, done indoor skydiving (without the kids), went to lunch and shopping, etc.
you are right that whatever you choose to do is ok, but most girls I know that have lost babies few better about celebrating them than doing nothing.

Once again, Yellowbeach, I am so sorry for your loss. Anniversaries like this are so difficult. One of my oldest and closest friends had a late loss at 27 weeks about 12 years ago. Every year on the anniversary of her DS's due date, she and her DH have taken to a "date day" to keep themselves busy (Museums, coffee house for lunch, wine and painting, dancing, etc) and less depressed. The rule was that they stayed away from the house. Since then, they have given birth to a beautiful LO (a daughter, Tess, now 3). They continue with the tradition and make it family friendly (children's museum, shopping, festival events, craft shows, etc.). One way in which they honor Grant's (their son) memory is that her DH purchased her a silver strand bracelet with a single bead the first year he was to be remembered. Each year following, they have added a sterling bead (gold at 5 and 10 years) to commemorate his presence in their lives and the affect he had on them. He will never be forgotten, but with time, it has gotten easier for them ... as I suspect it shall for you and DH.

I agree keeping busy! I like the idea above or planning a fun outing with your daughter. When I was not pregnant again after our d&c last year, I thought about it a lot leading up but found that anticipation worse than the actual day. It’s a tough road

@yellowbeach: I'm so sorry. I have been there, though not quite as tough of a situation as yours (just an MC/ D&C at 12 weeks). I so hoped I would be pregnant by the due date but I was not really even close (had gone to an RE who gave me a dire outlook) and it was devastating. I would say no to the PJs bc even on a good day that can be depressing ;-) ! Stay busy and do something you love. I redid my room- painted an accent wall and got some cute things at Homegoods. It really eased the blow for some reason to be so busy. I hugged my son and cried a little (lot). (I also posted about it on FB and got a lot of support that way but that is certainly not for everyone).

Dec 2 is the due date for our daughter we lost to T21 back in May. I'm really torn on what to do on that day. DH and I are both off from work, but I doubt (unless I say something) he will even realize the significance of the day.

Any ideas for staying busy? Should I expect to try to get out, or just be prepared to stay in PJs all day? I realize that whatever I decide is acceptable, but I'm hoping for some ideas on how to make the day more meaningful and to honor her in some way.

ETA: I was REALLY hoping we'd be pregnant again by now to soften the blow, but alas...

In Portland, we love Por Que No with or without kids. Amazing tacos and best margaritas. Breakside has the best beer. I also second Toro Bravo and Beast. Ned Ludd, Ox and Katchka are fantastic. Food carts are always fun (we like the ones on SE Division the best). Little T is the best bakery and Coava and Water Avenue serve our favorite coffee. Too many great places! Have a fantastic time!

For Portland Toro Bravo is tops for a Tapas dinner. El Gaucho or Beast for something higher end. The Open Table app is great for brunch reservations- I would not mess with brunch lines. Urban Farmer at The Nines is a really cool brunch spot. For really causal check out Tilt or Brunchbox for breakfast lunch or dinner. McMenimans Edgefield is a little bit out of the city but very cool for a one or two night stay.

I'm not sure if you are talking Oregon wine country or Napa and/or Sonoma. I've been to both and I love Oregon. The winemaker or owner may be pouring your wine and you would never know. Some of the best are Sokol Blosser or Stoller. There are nice bnbs here too. And it's way cheaper than CA.

We stayed in Crecent City for a weekend on our way to SFO. It was ok. I really liked Seaquake brewing. Next time I'd stay in Eureka. We did the drive thru tree and went to the Ladybird Johnson grove.

For SF I like the Inner Richmond and Cow Hollow neighborhoods and just stay in an air bnb. SPQR is an amazing special occasion place. I love the lobster roll at the Woodhouse Fish co. Also be sure to catch an In N Out burger. Alfred's steak house is really awesome. We went there for our 1 year anniversary. MOMA just reopened after being closed for years.

Let me know if you have more specific questions.

If you're interested in really getting out in nature and exploring some mountains and lakes, the area immediately around Mt Shasta is pretty unbeatable. Not too crowded, incredible scenery and some of the best hikes and swimming lakes you'll find anywhere. In June, depending on how this winter is, you will be limited to lower elevations, but there are some wonderful sights to see even without going into the high country. If you're thinking of going through that area on I-5, feel free to message me on my wall and I can give you some specific recommendations. Also, hikemtshasta.com is a wonderful resource.

For our 5 year anniversary we are planning a trip to Oregon/California next summer (most likely June). I was thinking of flying into Portland to start our trip and make our way down to San Francisco. I want to make sure we see the redwoods (the huge ones you can drive a car through!) and spend a day in wine country. I always see such beautiful pictures of mountains and lakes in that area and want to make sure we get out in nature to explore. Also looking for great eats! I've heard so many great things about the Portland food scene! If you're from the area or have traveled there, I'd love some recommendations of food, where to stay, what to do, etc.!

We exchanged cards, but no gifts. If they're exchanging gifts, I feel like jewelry would be a great choice because she'll always connect that piece to her wedding day (along with her ring!). Like others have said, maybe diamond studs or a necklace of some sort.
