Like!

And let's be honest, clothing isn't going to prevent teenage boys (and girls!) from thinking lustful thoughts...

I love this response. It says a lot of what I'd like to say in response to the open letter, but without profanity and excess rage.

I'm glad someone wrote this but I think both sides have good points.

Though I'm not sure why the dressing inappropriately only referred to teenage women... I think young men have the capability to dressing inappropriately too... just saying.

Both articles had good lessons/points. :)

Everyone especially teenagers need to know that how they dress is also how people see them. This includes or not includes how people will see them sexually.

Also everyone need to know that they control their own minds and eyes and to look deeper when they are looking for relationship (romantic or friendship) because even though someone chooses to dress a certain it's true that there is more to them.

I commend Mrs. Hall on starting a really interesting dialog.

I really like this post. She isn't condescending or shaming, she identifies with the mom instead if judging her. But respectfully disagrees and states her piece. I really agree with her- especially in the end about common parenting practices that often cause sexuality issues for kids.

I dont fully agree with her post. When you go for an interview you dress in certain manner, not because your clothing necessarily has anything to do with your ability to do the job but you still make sure you are dressed professionally because people will judge you based on your attire. the way you dress does make a difference in how people approach you and the level of respect they give you, we all judge people everyday based on how they are dressed. You wouldnt go to an interview in a bikini and expect them to not judge you and look past your clothing

At first I didn't read into the original post beyond a parent has a right to remove content he/she deems inappropriate. After reading the rebuttal posts like this one and the comments from other bees I see how terribly wrong the mom is in this case.

Great post! Thanks for sharing :). This is a huge fear of mine but avoiding the issue is definitely not the solution.

I liked this quote from her post:

"A lot of people will try and tell you that a woman should watch how she dresses so she doesn’t tempt you to look at her wrongly. Here is what I will tell you. It is a woman’s responsibility to dress herself in the morning. It is your responsibility to look at her like a human being regardless of what she is wearing. You will feel the temptation to blame her for your wandering eyes because of what she is wearing – or not wearing. But don’t. Don’t play the victim. You are not a helpless victim when it comes to your eyes."

@birdofafeather - i know, i was so surprised/saddened/appalled by some of the comments. they missed the whole point and beauty of the article! regardless of our social standing or economic background, it's unfair to devalue someone else's personal experiences by comparing them to our own. everything she wrote and felt was valid and completely hers. i'll never understand why people spend so much energy leaving hateful comments and putting others down.

@mamacate - you don't want to read the comments!! it really shows the ugly side of human nature. and i can relate too... sometimes its easy to look at others' pictures and think they have it better when we're all in the same boat in some way. i also liked that the author mentioned that perhaps she posts the nice things more often than not because she wants to capture those moments in time when things are really really good because she wants to hold onto those moments forever and not let the bad times cloud the good.

@Mrs. High Heels: Thanks so much for sharing this! I definitely could relate to the complicated considerations of post-partum life and new parenthood, and it is a good reminder that we don't know the whole story, especially when we primarily see other people's lives through blogs or posts or photos. Good to keep in mind!
