Thanks for bumping. I read this originally when you posted but I didnt remember much of it.
This sounds so similar to my experience. I looked up the local ICAN chapter. Its comforting to know that Im not alone in my experience.
I wasnt put under like you were but I was so drugged and out of it that I missed the entire birth too.

It sounds like you are more at peace with your experience now. I feel like I will too, its just going to take some time. I really appreciate you sharing with me and thanks for the support.

@BabyBoecksMom: @ALV91711: Thanks! He is actually 6 months old now. I bumped this for travelingbrit who is have a difficult time coping with her c-section, too.
Like I said, I feel really weird bumping this thread but I did want to share.
Also if you are reading this because you had a c-section and really didn't want it, please check out your local ICAN. You can meet up with women who have been there and feel similarly about their experience--and hopefully it can help you have fewer bad associations with the birth experience.

Oh my what a story, poor you! Congrats on baby Gabriel, though!

I was also put under during my c-section (I felt them cutting me so they put me out, but gave me too much medication so I stopped breathing for a bit), baby and I both got infections, I was on an IV and in the hospital for 5 days, and had all the swelling, and didn't get to see my baby until the next day. To this day I feel sad about the whole giving birth experience and feel cheated from aspects of it, if that makes any sense. I completely feel your pain, that was all so miserable. And on top of all that you had all these other things happen to you. You have every right to feel like you do about the whole experience. The only thing I can say is that at the end of the day if you and your baby are happy and healthy, that's all that really matters. I just kept having to remind myself that even though things were bad, they could have been a lot worse. I promise the days ahead will get better. :)

I've been wanting to comment all day and am finally getting a minute to do so!

Congratulations on the birth of your sweet baby!

I know how it feels to have your birth plan fly out the window and to feel like a failure. My plan was to have a med-free, vaginal birth. My water broke at 3am and I never started contracting. I ended up on pitocin which was the last thing I wanted. I labored for 17 hours when my midwife suggested getting an epidural to give my body a break and then we'd discuss what to do. Long story short, I ended up in the operating room.

Know that you are not a failure! You grew a life inside of your body. You had to have a csection because it was what was best for your health and Gabriel's.

My son is almost 9 months old and I'd be lying if I said I didn't struggle with accepting my csection. There are still days where I feel sad over our birth story. It does get better though and it does get easier. You always have HB for support & I'd be more than happy to chat too. :)

Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you :) Sorry that you didn't have a very pleasant birth experience. Regarding your comment "I feel like a failure as a woman because I couldn't deliver him naturally.": Try not to beat yourself up, it doesn't sound like your hospital gave you much of a chance for a natural birth. They seem to have pushed lots of interventions on you from the get-go.

Congratulations on your beautiful baby Gabriel!!! So sorry to hear about your crazy complicated birth story but good to hear that recovery is going well and baby is doing great. You can wear your birth story as a badge of honor just as much as anyone who did it naturally because that story is CRAZY. Obviously from the baby's position, the meconium, the infections, etc. you could not have avoided that c-section. You are strong, woman!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
