Just saw this one on amazon. I haven't used it but looks like it could work with some adjustments

You can also buy a y-shaped piece (vs the flat circles for the wall) for at least some tension gates - assuming the baluster can take the pressure

It won't be aesthetically pleasing, but if you wire tie a larger piece of wood to a baluster you should be able to just use a tension gate.

@erinbaderin: No, unfortunately this stairway is open to the main living room and her playroom. It's definitely not ideal.

Do you have a hallway or anything leading to that area that you could block off instead?

Look like it will have to be tension mounted - I would zip tie wood to the open slat side and then tension mount. Now as far as looking nice....I’ve got nothing

I'm looking for ideas on how we can safely block off our stairs given that we have brick on one side and open slats on the other. Anyone MacGyver a solution for similar? I'm hoping for something aesthetically pleasing since this is right in our foyer.

We have a very small condo with a small kitchen and LO has always been free to go in and out of the kitchen. As he gets older, he keeps wanting "up". We have the learning tower just for this purpose, but he is still unsatisfied. He needs to be "up" where the REAL action is, which is by the stove. His own little counter area with his own cooking utensils is not enough! Since the kitchen is so small, he's able to get into his learning tower and tug at my clothing to try to get a closer look and honestly, it's super annoying! When not in the learning tower, he will grab at my legs! 100% of the time when I go into the kitchen, he will follow, even when he is playing by himself in the living room. Argh! What is his fascination? I'm in there only cuz I need to get work done, which is hard when he is constantly wanting attention! We have an upstairs loft that is gated and whenever I go up there to grab something or use the bathroom, he doesn't complain and finds something to do or waits by the gate. I wonder if this will be the same for the kitchen, though I suspect he will be pissed in the beginning when his freedom is taken away! P.S When baby #2 is here and mobile, I will definitely have a gate because we can't fit two babies and me in there while I'm trying to get stuff done! Argh!

This probably isn't what you want to know, but my pastor has a gate from the ASPCA for his dog and it's only about knee-high. Would something like that work?

At the bottom of our stairs, we have a railing that is in the way of any normal-height baby gate. The one we put up right now doesn't open all the way because the railing is in the way. It's SO annoying. Any suggestions for a nice, short baby gate?
