I think it took her a few days, she would make all sorts of weird faces, gag, and spit things out. She thought I was crazy.

I didn't do true BLW in that I started early with yogurt and purees, but I gave solids in a BLW style. I personally stopped offering if she was gagging - it felt to me that she wasn't ready. That happened once or twice, and I just waited a little while, and then it was over.

It took her a few days, maybe even a week. I didn't know for sure until I found the food in her diaper on the other end. Kind of gross but it was a good way to keep track!

@FutureMrsMcK: Thanks! I guess I'll just keep offering him food and eventually he'll figure it out.

Miss A will occasionally swallow small pieces of apple that she grates off with her bottom teeth but still doesn't really "eat" as such.

I have noticed that she's now swallowing the mashed banana that I give her.

A couple of tries--maybe 3 or 4? He went from immediately spitting it out to chewing on it and spitting it out to swallowing some to swallowing most of it.

He did gag a lot, especially at first (but never choked!) He still does sometimes, when he takes too big a bite of something or tries to shove too much in his mouth at one time (this happens a lot), or just tries to swallow without chewing (happens sometimes, not often).

We just started BLW with DS yesterday. I gave him some roasted sweet potato fries and he wasn't all too interested. Munched it a little and spit it all out. From what I read in the book, this is pretty common the first couple of weeks.

For those of you that did BLW, how long did it take your LO to figure out how to swallow the food? Did they gag a lot?
